So going to bed was a better idea then tuning into the stream last night?

I'll have to check out the video of it another time. Not sure how long I'll last, though.

But sandworms with 3 mouthparts, per Lynch's Dune? Christ. [blah]

I think what disappoints me - outside all ED vs. SC baggage, I am highly subjective, never said otherwise - is SC gameplay. It doesn't click with me. SC claims to be first person, but everything feels very third person gamey. Ok, we can assume iteration interface is a bit WIP, but still I am not sure it is right way to go. As I have said before walking around and interactions are very jerky, very unpleasant to eye. Maybe it is different when you play it. Planets or no planets, tons of gameplay features or not, if SC is not pleasant to play - what's the point?

For SC to be more than tech demo they have to move beyond beautiful art assets. Which they seem to really struggle with.

Probably. But I noticed a couple of comments in the twitch chat along the lines of "Help us Elite Dangerous, you're our only hope" which was worth a chuckle.

I'd question if it's even a tech demo, given the startling lack of tech. It's more like animated concept art.

Maybe they have 3 person view because:
1) just to show-off cool ship models...
2) since their ship cookpit views are so cluttered...those intrusive bars I really hate..and they know that flying in ship 1st person for extended time is a pain in a..and you can not even fully see that cool planet in 1st person anyway...

What do you guys think?
Crystal balling.
CR will edit all the gamecon/citcom XD tech demos together add some mo-cap scenes and make a movie out of it then call it a day?

Just caught up with this - they really are pushing the backers patience with this stuff.

Wasn't expecting too much but it sounds like they managed to not deliver on pretty much everything.

Though some people seem to be impressed with the planet tech demo - not seen that yet.

I love how part of the presentation looped. You know, like it was entirely on rails and triggered with a keybind.

Have they shown anything about the still-absent mechanics like trading, piracy, reputation and so forth?

Out of interest, have you seen Outerra?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVnjT-15UAQ

(And unlike SC, the planet is full size, rotates, and has weather. :) )

sorry but what showed last night was totally another level of details that outerra doesn't have it.

and i don't care about the rotation of the planet and the physics, it's a game ... that's what you always forget: it's a damn game.. not a real thing.

i was hoping to see these things from Frontier and (surprise) i see a 3.0 (or 4.0 whatever) season in StarCitizen.
that's why i say 'overtaking', that's why some days ago i was asking a preview of what we expect in the future with Elite.

It's a matter of 'hopes' that Frontier won't give to us anymore (it seems so (at least, for me)).

man, that sandworm kind of reeks of having just been created to provoke a audience/press reaction at citizencon. It doesn't seem like much thought has gone into how it could work from a games context. It just looks like something we'll be referencing for years to come and asking where it is? or why it doesn't look like that in some wonky Alpha two years from now.

Roberts can joke about the moon landing and fakery, but putting it in the game and delivering it as a product is the moon landing here Chris. Showing it off in concept form isn't the same thing. It's like just turning up and showing a film of your intended moon landing with a cheese moon and people in alien costumes and saying "look we have a moon landing video, so there!"

It would be impressive from a developer that had a fixed release before Christmas or someone clearly stating it's proof of concept work a year into development. From CIG it's kind of just another year of stuff behind Roberts on a video screen that people cheer at. See you next year Citizencon.

Because Outerra isn't 100M+ project.

You might not care, but orbiting, rotation of planet and physics is what makes game interesting to play again and again.

Overtaking? It is a simple demo which won't be available even as SC Alpha for more than year. FD just doesn't choose to show this because this is not a game yet. Trust me, they also have atmospheric planets internally too.

Hopes? FD has proven they CAN deliver. CIG has proven they CAN'T. They just manipulate you.

Exactly.

If they're going to scream best-ever, never before seen it needs to beat that stuff and it didn't come close - lovely textures though. I really can't deny the lovely textures.

"fidelity" - it's citizens favourite thing though?

We've seen as much of 3.0/4.0 as we have of Frontier's future plans, you gotta be kidding?
