The Star Citizen Thread v5

A couple of things in the demo felt a bit weird to me, also:

There was an emphasis on that big gun deploying on the roof of the Rover. Yet when the "ambush" happened, the driver bailed straight out of the back, left their cover / protection and started popping Tuskans with a sniper rifle (which had zero dinner-plating going on...)

The use of the scope to zoom back to things with arbitrary distances against them. It felt like "see, see, we can do bigger than 8km!" even though there was no real frame of reference for the actual distance being traversed by the Rover.

I know, I know it is a demo of things to be put into a later iteration of an alpha, so I shouldn't be so picky...

So many salty citizens on the subreddit.
off and disappointed that they didn't get to see any SQ42 footage after they were promised they would.
Chris gives them a big toothy worm as replacement and it's not enough?
I mean the guy is sharing his dream game with them and only charging a small price for each ship so they can come along on the ride and this is what he gets?
5+ years we've been on this ride and we're closer to a released Star Marine alpha than ever before.
This is game development history in the making!
I wish more people understood that and stopped whining :(

Serlino they showed a scripted demo in the crytech editor, it even looped at one point in the stream

Would you mind linking that?

One of my concerns was that I thought we could land anywhere on a planet?

It now seems we can only land where someone has conveniently left a landing platform for us.

I didn't watch it, so was there any comment about SQ42, why it is not shown, status, etc?

Rolan posted the 3.x slides a few pages back. From memory the Sq.42 slide said something close to "All major tech hurdles overcome apart from this long list of AI, animations and some other unimportant stuff..."

SQ42 part 1 has been 'gray boxed' and they are going to work on completing one mission/level. It's not ready yet and even that one mission may take some time, but the rest should go faster when they've worked out the processes.

No release date yet

and then Erin said in an interview or something that pretty much EVERYTHING is ready apart from the fidelity of some animations.

Everything both brothers said is absolutely true.

So, 2018. Because if not even the content is created and there are still some technical issues, it will take at least a year, not counting bug fixing and polish.
Just look at the state of AAA game one year prior to release, they are almost done. SQ42 production didn't even really start, it's only assets&MoCap they have, and that's the easy part.

If "pretty much EVERYTHING is ready", why didn't they show ANYTHING, despite EVERYONE expecting them to do so, including most hardcore fans?

Because it wasn't fidelious enough yet for Star Citizen is always the answer to any question you might have about the non-existence of something in this wonderful game.

It's just striking that other AAA are "fidelious" enough to show gameplay even years prior to release. Guess SQ42/SC is unique in every way.

Where is that roadmap, i only found a roadmap for SC 3.1 -3.x with lots of promises.

Funny how CIG is fine with even not getting message straight. I was very convinced SQ42 will be released in 2017. Now I am very convinced even Christmas release is highly unlikely.

SQ42 slides were in video presentation. It basically said they still have incredibly lot to do for actual gameplay. I am really shocked how this is any way OK.
