Funny how CIG is fine with even not getting message straight. I was very convinced SQ42 will be released in 2017. Now I am very convinced even Christmas release is highly unlikely.

I think CR probably would have had lots of people willing to tell him was dreaming with release dates. However, based on CR's own words, it seems like he gets rid of people who tell him things can't be done. Anyone who would have told him that the game wouldn't be ready in 2016 would have been given the boot presumably.

Based off yesterday's stream, i'm thinking they are once again being optimistic with a 2017 release for..... anything, except perhaps a very bare bones MVP, perhaps something on a par with ED's alpha or early beta. Unless of course, they have a lot more hidden up their sleeves.

On other news.....

I noticed that the rover in the demo had "magic" suspension, i.e. the body didn't move. Looked to me like they just had the wheels follow the terrain with a bit of jiggling and didn't have proper physics for it, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Also it's not hard to believe that they wanted a Sq42 demo to be shown and couldn't get it ready in time, how else could you explain the deadly dull forum/chat (or whatever it was) section of the presentation?

The point is that some people here doesnt get impressed by an entire planet with awesome detail, but later they get super hyped for a geyser. Yes, you read it right: A geyser, a simple asset. Super hyped for that.
Double standard, plain and obvious.

The problem is that you don't know what you're talking about, we can take it from you're point of view then we need to talk about dreams. Not technical achievements. Nothing in that demo was NEW PG tech, it could all have been created in world creator.

Look, FD are not hand crafting the galaxy, they are setting the physical law in the galaxy and then make the SIMULATION!

There are a difference here, The game watch dogs also have astonishing graphics, ME:A will also have astonishing graphics.

ED is a galaxy simulation, with a game on top of it, you really need to see the shades of grey here, CIG claimed they got PG tech that will "Blow anything out today out of the water" they haven't, it was a fart in the wind, nothing more.

Back in 2013 i was convinced that SC won't be released before early 2016, and fans called me a hater. I was confident it will be released 2016/17, but now it's much more 2019 if at all.

My own view is that:
- 2016 will see the release of COD:I. CR will want to show demos of SC/SM doing more than that game does.
- 2017 will see the release of ME:A, this will cause CR to want to show tech demos of stuff "better" than ME:A. (I suspect ME:A will go big on architecture and sci-fi planet generation).

I would not be surprised if SC is closer to shipping today than it will be in 2018.

Community!

So much of the fluff around the presentation seemed to focus on that culty aspect tightening the group and making new ways for people to dig in so they never ever had to leave the 'verse - it could follow them on their phones and more.

I only got as far as the 'life invader', 'we've reinvented forums' part last night, but did go to bed enjoying the delicious irony of the SC timeline PowerPoint being dodgy. Who would have thought, an SC timeline not functioning as intended! :p.

Caught up today on the rest of it, with and without the CIG ninja editing of the YT version, must say, the planet stuff was pretty and all but where is the bloody game? Also, the number of staff on the books surprised me a little, that, after all this time, is gonna be taking a huge chunk out of all that backer money.

Make that 2019 - Dual Universe is (tentatively) scheduled for 2018, with lots of crafting and building to be added...

More from TheAgent's pre-CitCon rumour-milling, but this time "confirmed" as fact...

  • sq42 cutscenes have now hit over $60m to be produced (this includes the mocap work, VA work, stunts, shoot time, internal cleanup of the scenes, character modeling and artwork)
  • "[The quality is] Not even close enough to okay." - Chris Roberts, 28/9/2016
  • ^ this was mentioned to me awhile back, but I couldn't believe it. the two people I talked two and leaked the previous (now confirmed) poo poo before the kotaku uk piece was released, so I trust them
  • they are trying to find things for ben/alexis/lando to do
  • their positions are winding down and will be terminated aka transferred
  • there's been some problems getting some streamers paid (again)
  • the new troops had a visit from roberts (unknown contracted studio)

But nah, everything is FINE in CIG-Land.

Double standard, plain and obvious.

That's available to see in the game Beta right now though. It's also in proper context, there are millions of planets with variations of geyser.

Also, I think your seriously exaggerating the "excitement" level people had toward that.

ED already had airless planets, so geysers were a welcome addition. Plus they are in game. You can go and see them, get thrown up in the air by them etc.

Planets are not happening in SC. Demo/tech only.

Would you mind linking that?

8.45

It seems the footage from the side of the wheel is played twice. Streaming glitch? could be.

28.25 onwards

Dune worm appears, Console is accidently opened showing the name of the map is a CitizenCon exclusive an not from gameplay. :/

Then Dune worm vanishes for no reason and camera does a long distance pull back sequence to show the whole scale of it all. Then while its in space, Dune worm spit gets splatted across the screen and then suddenly back on the ground looking at the Dune worm.

Camera does the long distance pull back sequence a second time, although this time with the Dune worm in sight which I believe was the intended shot to replace the previous shot. Pull back sequence ends with the 'Star Citizen' logo appearing.

Definitely not a streaming glitch.

I love how the whole video is interspersed with a guy sat with a joystick in front of him like he is actually playing. I'm not convinced, just looked like a scripted sequence on rails to me.

Can confirm, geysers were a nice addition but I really wouldn't call the way I felt "excited". Pleased would be the appropriate term lol

Yep, I think it's kind of "mmmmmm, could be interesting to have a look"..... And I will at some point, I could do it now (I have beta access), but not rushing to get the latest download at the moment.

So has Derek already released anything? I expected a scoop. Obviously CR&Co couldn't care less about the ultimatum.

I decided to dip my toe in the water of Derek's "Alternative Oscars Night" stream last night. I get the impression he will still be laughing too hard to be able to type. His new catch-phrase as of last night may well be "No Chuffing Game!"

He does need to produce something though... although it doesn't seem to stop CiG <badumm-tish>

The Brit chap talking with him was at least trying to temper the more excitable members of the stream by defending the quality of the art assets and Voldsmart agreed with him :)

Maybe the average SC backer might see this (can't link the video of the Elite Meet geysers because the YT url has a rude word in it's encoded link!) and confuse British cynical sarcasm with the standard whooping and cheering you get at SC conventions.

It's not the same.

I'll always remember what American actor and 'whose line is it anyway' regular Greg Proops said about the differences between Americans and Brits.

American goes to Disneyland "Oh gee..a giant mouse"

Brit goes to Disneyland "Well, look at that. It's just a man dressed up. What a rip off"

You just don't understand fidelititious chicken head physics...

I'm going to SC a little bit of a break here.

I've just watched the "gameplay" video and Dune sandworms, Starwars Tusken raiders and rough edges aside, I was very impressed by the way it looked (I know, tech demo not a game). Lets face it, if the voice over had been David Braben and we were being shown ED Spacelegs we would all be creaming our collective undies right now. "What about the game?" type questions would all be being swept aside in massive mutual hypegasm (lets face it, ED's planet surface game is still pretty barebones right now).

I really hope that ED's atmospheric planets can compare favourably to this is what I getting at.
