Some people do weird things when they have their hopes and expectations ruthlessly crushed to oblivion, set on fire, the ashes ground into a fine paste and used as the filling of sandwiches you only ever find on motorway service stations at 3 in the morning.
It is painful to watch. I can completely understand them. Remember, we had to go trough less cruel, but still nevertheless correction of expectations when ED 1.0 arrived. Were we worried about ED not ever living up to potential? We were. Only time showed FD cared enough to continue to push ED forwards and upwards.

This is moment of truth for CIG and SC community, really. No demos, no sandworms will help them. Either they will swim, or they will sink as pack of stones. If SQ42 is no show for first quater or SC Alpha 3.0...it is finished. They can still have loads of money, but bridges they will have burnt will stay burnt.

Maybe just for LOLs...and people with weak imagination who thinks single player space sci-fi RPG (very good space sci-fi RPG) is competing with SC.

It will backers and Chris nervous though, that's for sure (as they seem to be stupidly obsessed with being teh best).

Indeed. As many of us have been saying for literally years now - it's time for CIG to stop talking about stuff, and do stuff. Not the developers themselves of course - I am sure they have been far too busy for far too long and really need a break.

At least, in that example, your hopes and expectations are helping somebody get *somewhere* (even if it does turn out to be Swindon). That's more than can be said for SC backers, who are currently looking up at Chieveley Services with envious longing.

Well I guess you didn´t hear the news....some shills now spreading this version...that apparently SQ42 is almost finished but CR didn´t want to spoil the big surpirise by shownig how wonderful looks like.....so he will keep it secret....he will keep it safe........after all is his....preciousss......

Of course, why would he want to reveal his game at a show he created specifically to showcase and celebrate his own games? There must be any number of more appropriate events, as long as they're several years in the future.

It's worse than that - they are looking at the roadmap with a big "You are Here!" sign, waiting for their car to arrive, which hasn't been built yet, and the sheetmetal hasn't been rolled yet, and the metal hasn't been smelted yet, and the ore hasn't been mined yet, but there are a couple of guys in suits and hard-hats looking purposefully into the distance and mumbling "Yes - I think we'll start digging over there!"

Mass Effect Andromeda started development around SC Kickstarter. On November 12, 2012, BioWare confirmed that they are working on a new Mass Effect project

I hope to see SQ42 by the end of the next year also I fully expect the SQ42 demo that didn't make it on the show to be shown end of November or Early to Mid December. They will use one of the usual events to showcase it. One of them is the Holiday Stream and the other one I actually forgot :D

I really hope so. No show from SQ42 was actually surprise for me. Their slides though indicated they have huge list of todo for SQ42. Next year.....maaaaaybe, but most likely not.

Wasn't the "pipeline" in place around June/July of this year and everything was going to ramp up with tons of content by end of this year?

Well, according to internal sources, CIG has run into serious production problems. How serious we can only guess - there's one source and CIG of course won't tell all details - but if anything of what is hinted is true, SQ42 is seriously delayed. Like 1 year or more.

At this point I'd be surprised if there was actually positive news out of this disaster of a project. Forbes is already calling SQ42 delayed indefinitely.

At least I have one pretty awesome space game and a very awesome WWII air combat sim - which is getting more awesome with a P39 by next December! - to occupy my time with. I also decided to indiegogo IBS for the second level package because there were - I think - real reviews about that indicating people have actually tested and played it.

I just hope CIG/RSI will refund my money from the purchase I made 3 years ago from their store without making me get a 3rd party involved.

I believe they did say something along those lines - but it's far easier said than done. As we all know, Genuine Roberts is very fond of saying that things have been completed, implemented, and delivered - when they are still in the concept phase.

TheAgent

so basically what has been leaked to me and then confirmed

  • chat app (confirmed via 30 minute presentation at citcon)
  • ben leaving atv (he hasn't been back so far)
  • 18+ hours of mocap footage (20 hours at latest citcon slide)
  • 3.0 reveal (gamescom)
  • streamers getting paid (derek will end up confirming in two weeks)
  • AI problems (citcon slide)
  • animation problems (citcon slide)
its also looking more and more likely that the $60m figure for sq42 mocap and cutscene work is valid because its been two years since principle filming completed they are still working like crazy to hit that prelude launch in q1 2017

And nobody else has hard-hats with that level of fidelity. I am so hyped right now for the "wearable hard-hat" alpha. There's mo-cap of Sandi dropping a hat in a puddle and everything... It may occasionally glitch through your head but remember, it's only an alpha. You just don't understand hat development.

(Think I may have to play Hatfall for a bit now)

If that's true it's half the budget that I'd just repeatedly press escape to avoid, not that they would let you. Old story, if I want to watch a film I'd watch one, not saying they can't be interesting but I don't think it has ever been a good fit.

I'm still finding it difficult to believe that Chris Roberts would blow almost half his funding on motion capture. Do these figures make any sense at all? Has anyone got details for anything remotely similar which might indicate whether it is even possible?

You and me both, I can't stand MoCap cutscenes. Cutscenes are okay one time through and when they are incredibly short. Halo (first one) was great because there were few cutscenes, they were short, and it was all gun play/explosions. The more crap that is added where you just sit and watch, more people end up shelving the game.

MoCap is used in games only to get character movement down, not for crappy cutscenes because those things are awful.

But, CR is a '90s sort-of-developer and hasn't done anything in the decade since MS booted him off Freelancer. So, he's bringing back garbage the majority of the gamers left behind and don't want back.

20 hours of mocap cutscenes? 20 minutes is too much. Oh, and that ridiculous script he brought on stage at a previous CONvention - his movie was okay for a young teen until you get to the big kitties in space crap and then it went out the window, it was a pretty awful movie aside from some of the visuals. So him holding a rack of papers in his hand going on about that being the script - I just was completely taken aback by that.

Yup - if there are unskippable cutscenes a lot of people will be very annoyed. I'm sure Genuine Roberts will justify it by "Immersion! Fidelity! You advance through the movi... game with the story we are telling! What's the point of us creating it if you don't get to live every moment of the hours of cinem... game greatness that I worked on for years!"

I just watched the CitCon video in full, wow, popcorn and everything..

It was very impressive and if all this is achieved (which I really hope it is), then SC will be another great space game, but one that covers quite a few areas that others won't get too.
The sand worm idea was a little cheesy, but apart from that, I enjoyed it a lot.

I have no ships now, having melted them all a while back, so I'm waiting for 3.0 and then buy something, or a few things, not sure yet. But its something to look forward to in the future.
:)
