I don't agree that CR is a visionary, a visionary doesn't have totally unrealistic expectations of what can be achieved, I think you have to have some intelligence there. Explain to me what is the difference between him and for example these guys on youtube saying the world is ending, or that guy saying the Earth is concave??!!??

From what I've heard he's also a bully, so        him, I hate bullies.

The good thing is the core fan base is finally, finally starting to see that the project is not going that great. I just hope more and more ppl will "wake up" and shake RSI to the point some changes will be made. [up]

Will see..thats maybe is just a vocal minority in internet...concept sales numbers in next few months will show state of project..

Depends how you look at it. 2.3 mill for owning a room full of cameras and some lycra suits is a pretty sweet deal (Once you you figured out how to actually use the things...)

Two rooms. You need one for the drive racks too. :D

But yes, that's a good point, I suppose. It's just that I imagine that these people would make sure to get pretty well paid for what they do and £200k a month seems a bit… well… unambitious or something. :p

The impression I get from around other places on the intertwit, is that there is a growing murmur and series of hurumphs from backers, which this time, are not getting slammed down as hard as usual.

I can never tell if people are being serious in their replies. One has stated that the sandworm, the centre-piece of the entire CitCon presentation, was nothing more than a dig at Sean Murray...
That has to be sarcasm? Nobody could seriously post and be happy that all they saw from their chosen game's own yearly party was a video throwing shade on a competitor?

I guess, CIG wanted extra publicity with this "Sandworm Gate", probably it will never even make into game..in case there even will be game...
But this bad joke, can backfire and SC can have similar fate as NMS did...

[/h] I wanted to look at this chart again. I was speculating on what has happened thus far and just how much all of this smoke and mirrors has helped them.

In 2015 through August they cleared roughly 19.5 million, versus roughly 18 million in 2016 through August. A slight dip but pretty good considering there's still no bloody game.

Gamescom earned them an extra 1.5 million over the average August. Let's say they finish this month with an extra 2.5 million over a normal October thanks to the Polaris JPG and CitCon. What the hell, I feel generous, 3 million.

2.2 dropped early March, 2.3 dropped late March, 2.4 dropped mid-June, 2.5 dropped mid-August, and there's little functional difference between them, maybe their new playground where they wander around waiting for nothing to happen and shopping. After March was when they stopped doing their monthly updates. We started hearing about the "maintenance mode" around this time, and it seemed like CIG was battening down the hatches to get something ready for E3. Given what we've seen from Gamescom and CitCon, it likely would have been another hacked-together heavily scripted turd that had nothing to do with anything that was being worked on for the game, but something that was put together to get Citizens to open their wallets. But they likely couldn't manage even that so they pulled out of E3.

The shopping update comes out because that's more important than anything else, but very little of any substance to the game itself. It took two more months for another update that basically has a couple of new places to clip through, but the rest of the game is still as lovely an unoptimized as ever....is anyone working on the game, or was mostly everyone working on the Gamescom scripted demo, which again pulled resources away from the main game and likely won't be ready to be implemented for months? They couldn't pull out of Gamescom as there would have been seismic rumblings among the whales and possibly the gaming media, as they're starting to figure a few things out.

So from 2.4 until now, almost 7 months, CIG appears to have been working on a bunch of stuff that's not going to be implemented into the game anytime soon, and bull     that seemed to be specifically crafted just for conventions (citizencon_homestead lol). And they did this, to earn an extra 4.5 million dollars. Given the estimated 3 mil/month burn rate, that's 1 and a half months worth of keeping the lights on.

They wasted 7 months of crucial development time in order to earn enough extra money to cover 1.5 months. And reddit is proof that they could have just made incremental normal progress on what they had and kept selling jaypegs and kept up a stable income stream.

These people are flipping dumb.

According to SA/Derek sources situation is dire - SQ42 Ep 1 is broken, they are trying to salvage it, they have actually have ran out of money, and were forced to take 50M loan to keep lights on. Every planned update - 2.6 and 3.0 - is at broken state at this point. They are shifting artist resources to East/Central Europe (yaaay), for decreasing costs, lots of devs are on chopping block.

I never expected to say this - but we will soon witness meltdown of "biggest KS project ever".

It´s not impossible but you will need much more evidence to prove such a claims........

GamerNexus details the specs of the PC used for the demo, $2000+ machine.

One thing that would be nice to see is the effect of having more ships on screen at once, they note than one Constellation appearing on screen dropped the framerate from 100fps to 75fps, that seems very expensive and what happens with 3 or 4 different models on screen?

Article http://www.gamersnexus.net/news/2637-system-specs-for-demo-pcs-at-citizencon-2016

That´s what happens when you making your models with gazillion poly´s.....+that was staged demo with no "network"environment and other players "polution".....

That is an interesting point you raise there Gary. Up until this CitizenCon train wreck, had anybody out there, even amongst the super committed CIG supporters and Star Citizen theory crafters, ever heard *any* mention of there being creatures like giant sand worms in the existing Star Citizen "lore" (lol!)? Because I'm fairly certain that a massive sand worm monster never showed up anywhere in reasonable (again lol!) discussions about SC/SQ42, apart from possibly the deepest recesses of an SC based fan forum somewhere.

Which then makes the inclusion of a blatant Dune rip-off sand worm bursting through the desert at the totally in-game, utterly unscripted planetary demo, all the more mystifying and bonkers to put into it.

It had no grounding it whatever Star Citizen/Squadron 42 back story that exists out there.

It made literally no sense to have it in the demo.

It was only there to try and wow backers somehow, possibly as a sly, underhand dig at Hello Games and No Man's Sky.

But it bore no relation to any gameplay elements that may appear in Star Citizen/Squadron 42 in the future. It was just pure eye candy with no substance.

Absolutely, the sandworm was a publicity stunt - intended to "wow" the backers and potential backers.

I don't understand why showing a big sandworm creature in a proof of concept video is a dig at another game that showed a big sandworm creature in a proof of concept video.

This is simply setting themselves up for the same fall. It would be impressive if they delivered the sandworm in the product.

If it's a jab at NMS it's somewhat hypocritical isn't it?

The list of things that have been showcased that haven't appeared in any playable version of the game is getting quite long now. Helmet flips and launching from the hangar into space, planetary landing at the community hub with crowds of NPCs, that Ender's game thing nobody wanted, star marine , that nyx landing zone thing etc. wouldn't it be better to demonstrate ability to deliver on things you showcase rather than making fun of other developers that don't deliver on the things they showcase?

It was cheap bite towards another overhyped project, NMS. Nothing less, nothing more.
The "there are no sand worms!" hate thread on reddit seemed to go on forever.

I think this is a pretty sure sign there's a large appetite for more Dune games, SC are just jumping on the bandwagon and as said giving NMS the finger

CIG and CR going "you can make SC whatever want to be" is weird, creepy and somehow a bit funny. This all demo was throwing all sci-fi references in and yaaaaay, this is like dream game you wanted as kid with all sci-fi references.

Issue is it's not a real game. I am so sad for people waiting for Freelancer 2. SC ain't it.

I can see great potential for an Action-Adventure-RPG game in the Dune universe! But i don't see many game dev studio that are up to the task. CDPR would be my No1 choice. But as a FPS, please no. Dune is about the epic, the lore, the progression of characters, the spice!
