Good point, but that 60 mil wouldn't have just been paid to Imaginarium, there's the people paid to invent a new language, the fees for the actors (probably the biggest outlay), all of the dev work that has taken place pre and post shooting etc.

The mo-cap data itself is probably the most sound part of the whole deal, seeing as they would have paid top dollar and did get the best in the business to do it, everything else though........

I'd be fascinated to take a peek in their books and see how they managed it...

60m in last 12 months makes quite a lot of sense its "just" 5m per month and in last year they expended to 5 studios and 362 employees and next big question can they now maintain all this...
But 60m just on mo-cap i doubt it...but who knows its CIG after all with moto "Nobody ever done this before us" ;)

GamerNexus details the specs of the PC used for the demo, $2000+ machine.

One thing that would be nice to see is the effect of having more ships on screen at once, they note than one Constellation appearing on screen dropped the framerate from 100fps to 75fps, that seems very expensive and what happens with 3 or 4 different models on screen?

Article http://www.gamersnexus.net/news/2637-system-specs-for-demo-pcs-at-citizencon-2016

Well, the buggy dragged it down to 36, so I'm guessing nothing good... Hey ho. Alpha.

(edit: This is a screen grab, so stop hitting the play button.) :p

PC looks bit overkill 5820K is overpraised Intel Extreme series ;)

Currently you can go with i7-6700 and some cheap non OC MB...MB of 5820k is very expensive starts around 200e
RAM 64GB total overkill for games 16GB will run everything even SC ;)
Videocard probably 1070 could run this at 60fps ;)

But yes that was just staged on-rails demo, so actual 2.6 may not run even at 60fps on HD res...

One question - was Citcon demo done in-editor or in-game ?
Because it looks to me it was done in-editor, which means, framerate would be even lower in-game, and that's just an empty game. Imagine it loaded with all assets, ships flying around, hundreds of npcs, human player (instances), etc.
Don't think a quantum computer would help you there.

It's still wildly out of the park. Imaginarium's entire turnover for last year was a shade under £2.3 million: how CIG managed to burn $60 mil is anyone's guess.

Repaying their VC investor, if we presume most VC want somewhere between 3-10 times there investment back to gracefully exist a venture then 60 million becomes immediately believable. An personally I wouldn't put it past CIG to hide the amount of money they spent buying out their original investors in something like motion capture. Plus they originally wanted to build their own motion capture studio and brought at least some of the equipment to do this, who knows how much money they        down the drain attempting to build one.

But $55 mil for ~20 hours? I should have paid more attention in drama class!

Alas, poor Roberts I knew him, Horatio: a fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent 'fancy':
He hath borne me on his SRV (!!!?!!!) a thousand times; and now, how abhorred in my imagination it is!

I feel bad for anyone wordking in Madchester / Frankfurt studios of course (Were they get paid in advance, I hope? Or <gulp> bought outright?). For a vague Gary Oldman reference, do wonder a bit, if the CR presentation was written by Guildenstern (or was that Rosencrantz) .. or both., because that did look a bit like slow-motion car crash telly to me.

At this point for ED to "destroy" SC (I just love how SC fanbase sees this as vs. thing) is to release Season 3 teaser with player avatar walking up the hill in tiny atmosphere planet with lava spewing volcano in background.

Anyway, news are getting stale. Ball is in CIG court. If they manage to survive this, they will be ok in long term too. I really don't find big pleasure being right about nonsense around project.

Yes, somewhat closer to the truth I suspect. I wonder if we'll ever find out...

"We might as well be dead. Do you think death could possibly be a Idris?"
"No, no, no … Death is … not. Death isn't. You take my meaning. Death is the ultimate negative. Not-being. You can't not-be on a Idris."
"I've frequently not been on Idrises."
"No, no, no – what you've been is not on Idrises."

(with appologies to Tom Stoppard. And no, I have no idea what the plural of Idris actually is)

Yeah, it will be quite curious to see how ED handles space legs, First person can generally be tricky to do from a purely mechanical standpoint, I wouldn't be too surprised if we later learn that season 2 development was slow because larger part of the coding team is working on season 3 tech.

Now for CR this project is "Do or die" if he fails his legacy will be tainted forever...
NMS failure will be nothing compared to this if Most successfully crowdfunded project ever fails...

I hope they do something that feels like floating around in zero g. Have you seen that new Lone Echo game coming for Oculus rift. That has you controlling a robot in zero g and seems to involve the player pushing themselves away from things rather than jetting around like SC.

Hmm, who would have imagined THIS type of comment being posted up on the Star Citizen Reddit even a week or so ago?

Because I certainly wouldn't have imagined it happening... like ever!

The good thing is the core fan base is finally, finally starting to see that the project is not going that great. I just hope more and more ppl will "wake up" and shake RSI to the point some changes will be made. [up]

The problem is not with CR being the face of the project, the problem is him being the manager in charge of everything. What SC needs is technical oversight and a clear roadmap.

@Galaxy Cat. They always have these disclaimers as in "I love this project etc" so as they perceive they don't get mown down by an angry mob of men children. Thing that stuck out for me was the exciting bit, it's not exciting it's a load of flipping rubbish. Didn't swear there so that's progress maybe.

Its good and its sad, why do you need to start with a long apology? CR is a visionary however he should not be in charged of anything.
He can explain his vision, get it down on paper, make a rough "story board" and get the frame work up and running, then add to it.

Someone else than family need to take command, and get this boat safe into the harbor.

The problem here is he doesn't even have that, look at how the project has flip flopped during it life time!
