But at this point....it is not that great. Again, it is not attack towards SC....it is not a released game. Just hyping SC will always attract those who will want to poke that hype.

what i usually read in this thread, in each of your comments, is a clear trollage and whining against SC as involuntary reaction for what Elite should be and it's not yet

Can we stop saying Mass Effect is space sim? It is space opera RPG. Story driven content, from best AAA story RPG developers.

It's as much of a space sim as Squadron 42 is planning on being. Except SQ42 doesn't have the additional depth added by the RPG elements of Mass Effect.

Mass Effect: Andromeda and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare are the closest comparable games to SQ42, and it is those which it will be compared against when (if) it releases.
 
It will be interesting to hear reaction to those, as they make dogfight much closer to ED.

I am very keen to have a go at it - the space combat element is what got me to back the game in the first place.
Imagine my disgust at Arena Commander when trying to play with a HOTAS when it was first released. There have been some changes earlier this year which I found pleasing - but this upcoming "overhaul" is something I really hope brings the combat experience towards something I can enjoy much more than now.

Now you can see what was scripted in the demo and what wasn't.

Also i love the definitely not skybox dynamic weather [rolleyes]

If you paid attention to the "powerpoint" part of citizencon, you would have known that without the need of wasting hours of your time doing a forensics analysis of a video:

See, they even highlighted "Still in progress" in a different color, so people don't get confused.

Still in progress:

Subsumption
- Pathfinding logic
- Full Animation Integration
- Improved Combat Logic
- Mission System Integration
- Enhanced Flight AI

Without this, they need to resort to scripting when they do a presentation. It's pretty obvious.

And before you tell me that is about Sq42 and doent apply to SC, i'll tell you that all the tech that applies to Sq42 also applies to SC and vice versa. It's the same engine for both.

Hmm... yeah, and that presentation, in the kind of very understated way did kind of confirm that basically the "game" behind the graphics is still largely missing.

Still, it was very pretty.
 
So what did they exactly showcase then?
What did we get from planets v2 demo.

They showcased the planetary tech v2. That's what the demo was all about.

The "mission" itself, the enemies, the sandworm is just stuff so we can see how the tech will work in the context of a mission.
Of course they also took the chance to show us some other small improvements, like the shock absorvers on the landing gear or the vision stabilization (which we already saw in a sneak peek video).

but as you can see on the pic above, it was a planets v2 demo, it never was a gameplay demo.

To be fair, that's something that CIG should be making clear. If they're only showing a slide that says Squadron 42 they can't expect everyone to assume it applies to both Squadron 42 and the PU.

Hmmmm, you'd have thought there'd have looked at the planet a bit more and not whizzed by most of it to focus on a scripted mission.

-Improved textures from gamescom demo
-added tree assets to scene.
-added crashed bengal to scene.

Anything i missed?

I thought it was obvious. They have made clear numerous times that they are using the same engine for both.

Hi-Ban, my point about scripted demo was....that lot of SC redditors on reddit where convinced it is actual gameplay. When I pointed out it is scripted just to demonstrate tech, I got trampled upon.

Again, I HAVE NO ISSUE WITH IT BEING SCRIPTED DEMO. I found it a bit cliche, but that's me. As tech demonstration went, yes, it did job. It demonstrated CIG has better grasp of making good looking planets en-masse. Work is not done yet, but yes, demo is not at fault here.

I have much bigger issue about Gamescom presentation and CR claiming SC Alpha 3.0 is "end of the year" release. Which is quite obvious he didn't have such information to make such claim. That's what made lot of people angry.
 
I thought it was obvious. They are using the same engine for both.

It's obvious if you know about it, what about all the people that don't know? Just a simple case of dotting your i's and crossing your t's to avoid any confusion.

Not really, you should be aware that this thread is actually in good part a refugee camp from the CIG echo chambers on reddit and their general forums where concerns and negative opinions are dumped in megathreads or downvoted to oblivion by fanatical white knights. I'm betting a good percentage of the people here backed SC very heavily in the early days I know myself and @Lysander lysan were in for $2-3k give or take. The negativity comes from constant jpeg milking false promises and non-delivery of tangible goods. It has absolutely nothing to do with ED, LOD or Mario Kart and everything to do with CIG/CR's mismanagement of the project.
