I swear to god, this has to be one of the worst gaming communities I've ever seen. People on official forums openly bragging about cheating if you don't play the way they want you to.

Say what you will about gankers, but at least they aren't cheating, unlike you.
...except there are a lot of gankers known to cheat. Hell, they even LIVESTREAM THEM DOING SO.
And they should be punished for doing so, just like combat loggers.
No, your case is rubbish. The murderer can have any reason he can dream of to murder you and owes you not so much as an evil laugh. Combat logging to avoid him murdering you is cheating. Simple as that.
I've played this game primarily as a trader, smuggler and explorer, and have only recently (since 2.1 dropped) gotten into combat. Up until about 4 weeks ago I had never participated in a CG and my experience with PvP was limited to being ganked a couple times. So, Joe Everyman I guess in terms of my career choices. I've always played in Open, though. My opinion in this point in time is that in the great scheme of things the combat logger falls several rungs below the seal clubber, mobius invader, noob ganker, Jameson Memorial kamikaze camper. If a player clicks "Open" he/she has agreed to abide by the rules of the game, and as much as some of you guys want to act like that means nothing it is indeed cheating, and if it could be proven I would support a very harsh penalty...such as being forced to play Open only for something like a year, and possibly have your rank stripped and busted back to Mostly Harmless
The murderer can dream as much as he / she wants in that case then; as the intended victim, unintendedly vanishes in a puff of 'going to solo' and staying there smoke. They're just wiping out players like me from OPEN forever in that case.
Then alas; the big wheel keeps turning. Unless FDEV create an official OPEN PvE server; then this ugly debate will keep a rollin'.
Like I said, i'll be happy to discuss with a GM regarding punishment and penalty. Cutting my nose of to spite my face; i'd rather get a ban, than play by ridiculous anti-mechanics.
For all these reasons, you'll only find me in solo; and private group if any of my friends are on.
Forum accounts aren't tied to game accounts, and braggadocio is not the same thing as evidence.

I won't go with you there because I've seen the other side of this community, too, reasonable discussions and genuine caring for other people when the chips were down.
However I DO agree with you that the brazen bragging about cheating being tolerated on this forum is shameful. The fact that these brags are never censured in fact means they are actively condoned.
@Vorxian--I don't expect you to like anything; people ganking traders is ugly business for sure. But, it's ugly business that falls within the rules of the game. I certainly agree that if a player doesn't want to be exposed to such risk that Solo & Group are the intended solutions.

It's a while back now, but I seem to recall a rather well known PvP-Pro-Bro moaning about combat loggers and ships he couldn't instakill - and mid stream he managed to swap the view to the interface of a game exploit application.
Wow, I'm surprised at the result of the poll. With so many posts crying about combat loggers ruining the game, you'd think most people were against it. I voted that I don't care, because I don't. Honestly, the only people I could imagine really caring, are those who make a habit of ganking other pilots, which is a group I actually dislike more than combat loggers.
The difference is, I've seen some of the people here bragging about CLing do it in-game.
No one is bragging about cheating.
But one is suggesting that 'options' are available in lieu of 'no options' being available via in game mechanics.
I've never combat-logged. However, the only time I've ever been attacked by a ganker, he was so terrible that he couldn't kill my Viper Mk. IV with his FDS.
Never combat logged in my life. I play in SOLO so I don't have to put up with this. However I'm actually kind of sorry that I need to miss out on legitimate pvp piracy action in order to avoid the other kind of "pvp" ie ganking. I've been dealing with it since the beta testing of ultima online, and i have yet to change my mind about PK gankers
Then you need to report them and let fdev handle it. Thing is the game and the forum are seperate entities - cheating in game won't get you in trouble in forum, any more than getting kicked off here will get you banned crom playing. It would be different if they were posting links to hacks etc, that's against forum rules, but talking about ALLEGED in game behaviour when there's no connection between game and forum accounts and no location or time is unprovable and nothing but hearsay. Now if game and forum accounts were linked, you might have a case.
Screw that. I can make up as many reasons as to why CL should be fixed first then C&P but I'm not. They should both be fixed and not one favored by the other because they are both intertwined.
FDev doesn't actually do anything about it, so that's a moot point.
Either way, advocating cheating shouldn't be allowed in game OR on the forum, but I guess I'm old fashioned like that.
