Horizons Wave scanner now rubbish?

At least it is some response - funny that it is the 3 pages thread in dangerous discussions that gets the response not the 9 page Horizons one, since SRV is a horizons only feature.

I do find that odd, but that always seems to be the case. This forum lacks some common sense notification system to help you find and manage discussions.

Right now there are FAR TOO MANY sections where people can post threads about this game, which scatters the information all over the place and makes it much harder to find the info you need at that moment.

Having Frontier respond to this issue in another section of the forums while ignoring the much longer and more active thread here points to precisely what I am getting at! Even Frontier can't keep track of where they need to monitor. But you would think THE HORIZONS section would be a good place to start!

I'm now tearing out whats left of my hair. If you say it is working as intended i will hurl myself off the nearest hurling point

No... You are not crazy! The feature is most definitely broken. Anyone who claims otherwise is simply misinformed, lacks experience with the scanner when it was working properly, or is simply an out of control ED Apologist that can't allow anyone to point out flaws in the current game without those facts being met with the usual FUD.

Is it just me, the moons I have been prospecting on or is it general that the wave scanner is now rubbish?

You go along doing the old "there must be a double-band signature before too long" hunt for MMs, decide to blow up some other meteorites to pas the time and then just as the band gets really narrow and the meteorite should pop-up in screen and in vision (or vice versa) - the wave scanner signal disappears but no target, so you follow the sound (or try to) but nope - nowt there. This used to happen very very rarely but today this has been probably 50% of the signals that I follow. I now find myself driving around in circles at that point and find something by eye maybe half the time.
This is really stupid, so hit and miss.

Does anyone else find this?

(The chondrite signature has changed too - is that the same for everyone?)

:(

I had not been prospecting since the release of 2.2 until yesterday.
I agree with your findings.
The scanner is not as accurate as it was.
Sometimes signals suddenly completely dissolve and sometimes the nature of the signals suddenly changes from the material signal to the cargo container signal, or from the rare signal to the more common material signal.
It is very weird.

I am still able to find stuff, but sometimes I have to visually search for stuff, because the scanner signal has disappeared and I drive around in circles to find the mats I had on my scanner just moments before.
It has become a bit hit and miss now.

So listen, I bought the Horizons version for the SRV which now seems to be broken when , as I said before, I wasn't too impressed with it before it got broken. Also the missions are paying out less and at this rate, it's gonna be a long time before I can buy an Anaconda. Would someone please message me when they get these things fixed? In the meantime I'll go find a game that's maybe less broken like, I don't know, No Man's Sky for instance? ;)
Thanks, I'd appreciate it! :)

Good luck with that, I lasted a week - honestly, I just got bored stupid after maxing everything out in that time.

(I have to admit being sucked in to F Dev's other new baby - Planet Coaster is just eating up the hours - I have lost count of how many full cups of cold coffee I have chucked out.)

Not sure if there was a ninja fix or some sort of random thing going on but I went to collect some mats for low level stuff and it worked ok. Sound and visuals were clear on the scanner and I had no trouble locating mats. Manamade objects were still buggy so bar for nearby Engineer base was absent as was the usual old one for my landed ship. Still, worth having a look.

That NMS reference was a joke - I already played and finished and restarted too. If I did go back to another game while waiting it would probably be ESO. :)

Can someone do me a favour and post a screenie of what metallic meteorites are supposed to look like on the scanner post 2.2. Asking simply because I haven't found a single one since it went live.

Note - I'm fully cogniscent of all aspects of SRV operation, where to find things, how to find things etc, I've driven endless miles in it over the last year. Just need a specific response to that request please. Cheers.

Zieman made this awhile ago but I used it to figure out the scanner. Still seems applicable:

Its the SOUND you need to listen for. They have a different sound than the outcrops, bronzite chondrite. Listen for this sound and you will get to know them quickly...

They still look the same. The few I've found had the same old reading, although I had to be fairly close.

As useful as that is I wish the UI for the scanner would just tell you what it has picked up as (if your lurching over hills ect) those lines can be all over the place sometimes leaving you chasing sensor ghosts. The audible cues are another thing, they are too easily drowned out by the engine of SRV itself. The scanner UI (and audio cues) need more work to make them more informative in my view FD.

Exactly my complaint - the scanner in my ship tells me how many planets it's found so why can't the wave scanner give digital info as well? I'm not saying lose the pretty scrawling lines or noise, just present a readout with it as it identifies things and distances. Like in a submarine where you get range, bearing and identification. Surely someone in the ED Universe has manufactured a better wave scanner that I can replace this one with! ;)

The Scanner in the SRV is made by the same corporation that made the famous 'Bounty Hunter Gold Digger" metal detector, famous centuries before.
How Dare you make light of it's classic design!
