The Star Citizen Thread v5

I wouldn't be surprised if they drop in a little pre-baked Squadron 42 teaser, perhaps salvaged from the aborted CitizenCon demo. Then, because they've promised nothing except more ships sales (and because they want to sell more ships), they'll make it sound as if they've gone above and beyond to give the fans what they want, and pretend that it's a window into a whole world of progress that they've been keeping top-secret.

I don't think there'll be anything worth a damn in this. Hopefully CR tries to play his own game again and flounces and strops his way through the bugs again like the 2015 one.

Focus on ships or at least the sales of such anyway is round about what I'm expecting if what they've said is anything to go by. Would be very surprised if we see anything at all from sq42.

Yes. And I'm taking the evening off to troll them non-stop. Just like CitizenCon.

Ha :) Stay Frosty man

And this is aspect I really, really don't get it. I know lot of SC original pitch and idea came from 'small indie dev sticking it to the evil empires of publishers'. But really, why *anybody* would have trusted Chris, being out of loop for so long, without ready to go infrastructures to back him up? Did anybody have any doubts? Ok, you can have bunch of old buddies coming together, ok, but overall...you need huge complex of developers at your fingertips ALREADY during Kickstarter! That's why CR Start Citizen premise didn't made any sense. I bought Squadron 42 idea, sure, but full blown space MMO? Even FD were very careful not to pitch their game like that - and David had more ready team - obviously with caveats.

OF COURSE lot of money and time went into making infrastructure. CR wouldn't be able to even try to make game without it! Major issue however is that if you do so in short term and notice you are bound to waste lot of resources - which has been evident.

Still doesn't explain state of Squadron 42 of course.

I'm amused that the OP in that thread compared SC to the tortoise. For me, that story isn't about rushing it's about complacency. The hare is the sure bet to win, but he falls asleep. Maybe like the largest crowd funding project ever, a safe bet. Sure to hit deadlines and produce the goods? Lots of hype and excitement, maybe they are napping under a big tree when they prioritise ship assets and trade show demos over core gameplay and deliverables? Maybe the tortoise came in long ago.

If CIG were the tortoise they'd have rubbed out the finish line, saying finish lines shouldn't apply and started a new high fidelity race track with no visible winning post.

I think another question would be what's actually in the 2.6 version they'll be playing? And will it be functional or just another tech demo...

I hope it means they will release 2.6 after the show.

If its a case of "Look, here we are playing 2.6. What? You want to play 2.6? No, sorry, not ready yet", i'm pretty sure that would generate quite a lot of saltiness.

Plus, if they do release 2.6, we will get to see how the new flight model works.

So presumably this LAN party means;

Local server
High speed Gigabit LAN
Monster client PCs

Will there be a Not representative of live public server gameplay disclaimer I wonder...

Why would they put that? ;) Nobody understand how gaming deveopment works anyways...

Gigabit LAN? Haha, that's so far below the fidelious standards of Chris Roberts. Infiniband at least! ;P
