*SIGH*

I just assumed it had been automatically uploaded at Meene and flew out to the ruins. I'm used to having to come to the forums to find out what's going on in the game, but the game actually lying to me is a new one.

OH WELL. I'll fly back then!

Seeing the newsletter I had to log on to live just to be sure it wasn't Michael that had it wrong, there is nothing on live.

And it is still on Galnet too.

Another waste of people's time.

Maybe it's some meta game or something and they will reveal the Kumo Crew has managed to infiltrate Frontier.

I don´t get it.
There is a algorithm behind the obelisks data? And the mission update will help to decrypt the message.
But it is possible to solve it right now?
Or did FD put in a half-baked quest and we need to wait until the patch to continue?
Is this "blaze your own trail"?

I could be wrong but I'm thinking there's not actually any (real life) decryption happening with the obelisks. Ram Tah has just created some software wizardry to "decrypt" the obelisks "message." Half-baked? Well that is kind of the name of the game in ED story progression. This is a slow bake story, and we just kind of have to watch the batter molecules solidify one by one.

Went back to what I had the impression i did when i first visited the site and when an Ancient Urn and an Ancient Relic in the hold and when going to an Oberlix to another I get Ancient Civilisation Data. Duno if others would get the same thing.

So it seems to me that there's absolutely nothing that can be done at the site of any significance at all until FD update the game. And they've quite happily let all the contributors to this thread spend hours upon hours on wild goose chases, putting untold effort into theories, graphs, maps, interpretations...and it's all going to come down to (SPOILER BASED ON INFO I READ IN THE BETA THREAD)
parking in front of an obelisk with the right item in your SRV's hold.....once FD put that bit in the game.

I really, truly respect the thought and effort you players in this thread put into solving these "mysteries", but why do you bother? Genuine question, I mean no disrespect at all. But you're all giving FD far more respect than they're giving you, when all they can put out is a few codes now and then, and some broken assets, and they'll happily watch you wasting your time on stuff they know isn't in the game and will never be in the game to the level of depth you're all anticipating with your theory crafting.

Or should I be viewing it that you're all having fun theorising anyway, so there's effectively no harm, no foul? In which case I happily doff my cap to you all, and am pleased you're happy :)

Planned for the new year......................so much dragging out im done tbh unless they make meaningfulness to their next batch of clues, to clues, to clues im sick of screenshots tbh.

Well I'd say we have fun theorising anyway. And that sometimes it leads somewhere, sometimes it doesn't.

But the Galnet article is STILL up, I'm wondering how long it will take them to remove it down. Or are they going to have players go on a literal (as opposed to your possible) goose chase all weekend.

Isnt that what we have been doing nearly all year anyways? basically

May i also ask why now they have made a maximum amount of owned ships. i currently own 27 fully kitted but i just noticed the max is 30? i get it from data reasons but 30?? wth xD

Just for the pride of being the Elite: Dangertedious scientists IMHO [big grin]

I doff my cap back :)

We do enjoy theorising, but it's also apparent that FD enjoy putting things out there for us to find using external means to do so if required. I completely understand why this new mechanic has been added (in fact players have asked for this), it gives people who don't want to use external means to advance the storyline a way of doing so in-game. Not everyone wants to mess about with sonograms etc but it has been an interesting path and has introduced me to many ways of deciphering things that I had no idea existed. It's been fascinating.

I hope it's not the end of it, and I hope that we will now see a mix of the two. Perhaps a way of the hive-mind solving clues that can then be advanced by these mini_CGs while we wait for new clues (and hopefully more ways of doing so that don't involve relogging to do so, or at least aren't sped up by doing so).

It's a nice move in the right direction IMHO but hopefully FD will keep throwing the challenges at us that we've become accustomed to. It has given them a lot of good publicity when they've done these things so I hope they continue.

My worry now is that people are getting distracted from the possibility that there's a way, using the "old" layout of the ruins, that allows us to solve the mystery of the ruins so I ask Michael Brookes, "Is there a way of solving or advancing the storyline the mystery of the ruins as they stand now in the live build?". Plenty of us are still trying to do so!

In short, there are mysteries in the game that need solving (the big ones being UA and UP messages). If there wasn't a big group of people working together bouncing ideas around, they may never get solved. Whether in a video game or real life science isn't about producing results and forming solid theories 100% of the time. It can be slow, sometimes painfully. I think considering the scope of this game, its pretty cool that there is a whole aspect to it which can be subjected to scientific analysis and every once in a blue moon you get some results! And sometimes you hit a dead end and Ram Tah spills the beans about his secret software that he actually isn't releasing until next year! That's when you go do whatever the heck else you want or play rocket league or something.

It's a good question, and one I'm having a hard time conjuring up an argument against after recent developments.

I think hope is the reason. Hope that the puzzles can be figured out, hope that the answers are actually there for us to find. Hope that Frontier has put at least some amount of effort into creating these storylines and mysteries, an amount that justifies the level of effort and time we put into trying to discover and solve them.

Frontier is a team made up of people, and they make mistakes just like any other people, but yeah sometimes the number of mistakes add up to real discouragement. How many times have secret stuff caused us to CTD? How many times were there errors in the puzzles that we actually pointed out to the devs? Can the ruins even be solved in live right now, or does it need a future update to allow us to solve it? Are the obelisks just waiting for a patch in order to start making sense? The Rift mystery has been in the game since before 1.0 and yet we still have no real idea what it is we are looking for, or even where "it" actually is, are we all just wasting our time searching for something that actually doesn't exist due to a missing asset, or a bug?

The truth is we just don't know, and what hurts is that sometimes we think we are making good progress only to find out that a key element is missing or broken, and that we were actually devoting our time a month too soon, when we really should have just waited for a CG or a quest to get implemented. That does indeed sting a bit, and it makes many of us feel like other things in the game are a higher priority than all of our efforts to push the game's story ever forward.

Why do we bother? Because we are all trusting that Frontier is devoting enough time into the story and mysteries to make our efforts worthwhile, I guess. We simply still have hope, even if we do have to put it on hold for awhile sometimes.
