The Star Citizen Thread v5

Yes - never mind what the state of the project is - the worst possible thing is that Derek gets to point an laugh more and people think he's right!

Absolutely this!

I bet DS is as happy as a pig in a mud bath after yesterday.

I think he got lucky in initially targeting CIG for his gamedev jihad.
I don't think they'll ever stop giving him the fuel he needs to burn bright.

Look at Star Marine and tell me you want to play that after Doom,BF1,TF2,etc

It's embarrassing for CIG.

I will play TF2 :) It's Early Access trailer for generic shooter, let's say what it is.

edit: and did I say I actually wanted 2.6 to land today and see good stuff? Now I watched trailer and I know I really don't want it anymore :(

FD, hurry up with some 2.3 reveals please :(

And judging from posts I doubt Derek feels happy. Vindicated? Ohh yes and considering all toxicity towards him that's a lot. Happy? Doubtful.

I'm not really into FPS stuff anyway - but I know some here were keen to try the flight model changes - just wondered if it's changed much.

As it is only a narrow release to a focus audience they have disabled stuff they don't want people to waste time on... which I think in the abstract is a reasonable way of going about things?

Darth Twitter seemed to find it flabbergasting, I don't have his insight.

As an aside, I have tried (like an addict), to spend less time on this thread lately. Between here, checks on a certain twitter feed and an associated Reddit, life can quickly feel very negative and that is with here being the comedy relief!
It may well come crashing down in a massive pile of hubris... my thoughts are for the minions, caught up in the master plan :/

Let's all be teapots!

Just a random thought but with the latest clampdown on 'Fake News' do Star Citizen trailers qualify? I mean stuff like Pupil to Planet released in 2015 looking like it was only months away

Same base, same tech they did SC Alpha 3.0 with. Which is now 1 year away at best.

Tech demos doesn't make game reality.

To be fair it doesn't say it represents gameplay, just in-engine footage (which is most likely true beyond some filter touches and editing).

This dumpster fire has been burning for years and only now do citizens notice the smoke and think maybe something is wrong.

They're supposed to be building one of the most ambitious games ever concieved and have allegedly been given one of the largest budgets ever to do it, yet CIG can't even manage a professional stream, something teenagers do better out of their bedrooms.

Absolutely this!

Forcibly refunding DS and writing that barmy letter was a massive, massive PR gaffe. It revelead that the people in charge were not stable and there was nobody to control their crazy impulses. They chose the wrong target too because Derek's a maniac with lots of time on his hands.

It'd be worth telling CIG not to mess with Derek Smart if they weren't already being led by Chris Roberts.

With a monomaniacal enemy one the one hand and a grossly incompetent leader on the other, what could go wrong for Star Citizen?

I do feel sorry for the devs caught in the middle though. The fans on the other hand had a long time to see the symptoms, and it's only now they're starting to twig? Better late than never I guess.

People are thrilled with CIG on the official forums...

That's only the first page in General forums...
And let's not forget the big Katamarii thread about feedback from the live stream, which is filled with disappointment:

I think CIG must activate Orlandos and alikes ASAP, people are awakening!

If they had showed the CitizenCon Sq42 demo (even untouched from where they left it) I think they would have had a much better reception. But to scrap all of that hard work and not show any of it was a really poor decision. If it was so, so close surely it would have made perfect sense to finish it off and ride the PR wave.

I'm guessing Mass Effect had something to do with it.
