I'm just dropping this off and slowly walking away while whistling.

Ok, I stand corrected then :) For ED they opted to show some glow from holographic interface, but not interface itself.

It's probably just a rendering distance issue, If you look from your SRV turret into your cabin, you can (or at least you could, perhaps it was patched out) see the boundaries of restricted area in real-time, and there's a video showing you can see the HUD from the back of your cockpit, and it stays in its original position. If the linked screenshot was made from a perspective of an another player it's a bit more impressive, but one has to wonder whether an added network overhead of sending HUD info (current speed, selected countermeasure, radar readings) is worth it (not to mention it's quite a potential for cheating).

The ED example also shows how some elements are apparently rendered at a fixed absolute size at infinity, whereas others have a proper location in space. Even if you just have (or had) some head tracking, you would have noticed this over the last couple of patches. Before, the nose direction dot would move around due to parallax if you shifted your head, but nowadays, it sits at a fixed point on-screen.

The Helmet HUD is not a static picture. For example your bullets left in your magazine lower as you fire your weapon and reload.

Are you talking about from the player's perspective, or from a third-person view?
And either way, it's not like the helmet HUD makes any sense even for the subject, since its location would mean the guy inside the helmet wouldn't be able to see it. [haha]

I feel thirsty. Got a lot saltier on here for some reason. ;)

it's xmas sales time and the narrative isn't going to plan - it's all hands to the decks

The progress from "then to now" can be viewed dependent on your feelings toward the game. I see it as alot of progress going toward the release of Alpha 3.0 which is my dream game , or you can view it as "Not released yet there for it means squat". I can respect both views.

I'm curious - why is 3.0 in particular your dream game? Which feature does it?
Why not 4.0?
