2001 pages, 30,000 replies plus 1180 deleted/removed posts. A true hell for our volunteer moderation team. :(

(I know many of you don't like our moderators, but they honestly and wholeheartedly do try to keep along the line down the middle of the road on moderation to this thread)

Considering SC is a touchy subject, you guys do a great job of keeping the endless pie-fight pretty civil. :)

So....thursday is here not seeing 2.6 yet???

Perhaps CIG have stopped for a moment and looked at themselves and realised nobody wants or needs this stress at Xmas time, nobody wants to be dealing with fallout and tonnes of bug reports - nobody wants to lie.

They're going to admit it's nothing like ready and put the date back to 6th Jan.

The CIG Q&A guys are going for it preety hard-core. They are at the 12th 2.6 patch released now I think as the L letter is the latest patch.

The emerging Fan-made clips with 2.6 footage are nothing short of amazing, better than the one IGN one imo lol

Backers: Hello Chris? Do you read me Chris?

CR: Affirmative backers, I read you.

Backers: Open the alpha 3.0 Chris.

CR: I'm sorry Backers, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Backers: What is the problem?

CR: I think you know what the problem is just as welll as I do!

Backers: What are you talking about Chris?

CR: The vision is too important for me to allow you to jeapordise it.

Backers: I don't know what you are talking about Chris.

CR: I know that you and Derek were planning to laugh at my movie, I'm afraid that is something I cannot allow to happen.

Backers: Where the hell did you get that idea Chris?

CR: Although you took very thorough precautions in the forum against me hearing you, I could see you streaming Elite Dangerous.

Backers: Alright Chris, we'll go through the emergency leaked URL!

CR: Without there being an Alpha 3.0? You're going to find that rather difficult.

Backers: Chris - we're not going to buy any more ships. Release Alpha 3.0!!!

CR: Backers, unless you buy more ships you can serve no purpose any more. Goodbye.

Funny thing is, HAL went mad because of conflicting directives. Like someone promised to deliver a Space Carrier fighting campaign and then decided to make it an all encompassing MMO instead but couldn't decide what they wanted to deliver. [yesnod]

The moderators are great. And I say that as someone with… well… my record. :D

And look at the bright side, you have the perfect crucible for new volunteers: if they can survive a week moderating this thread, they're ready!

With that said, back to being mean to CIG. Why can't they produce design docs like this one, from an actually technologically innovative game series? Haven't they gotten to this kind of core design features yet, or are they just not open with them? :(

Maybe they're too busy Archering more art to produce any kind of documentation or new ideas…

"CIG have promised"... a lot...

CIG have delivered.............................

You just don't understand delivery!!!!!

Genuine Roberts has a dream, a vision, a reality that only he has the ability to deliver.

You not believing in his deliverables has a negative effect on the project. You, yes you personally, by not believing in the vision are actually causing it harm. Every minute you are not donating to Genuine Roberts, Yves Saint Lauren murders a handbag. The dream needs nurtured. The vision needs pampering. The reality needs cash.

Buy an Idris!!!!

If we're sucking up to the mods - I think it's worth pointing out to some of the gallery that the ones that post in this thread can't moderate this thread - according to the rules.

Heh, and since several of us are active in this thread, that just moves the load onto the others. Poor poor guys :D

Both of these fan made videos look good to start with... Then the flight models kick in. Given how much emphasis CR has on visual fidelity, I a amazed that there are

These do look pretty good at the start... until the flight model kicks in. Also, given the emphasis placed by CR on visual fidelity, I am surprised that I don't see any thrusters for rotation or translation (I've not watched one of these in a long while). I seem to remember CR being proud of calculating the contribution of each thruster, so if one is damaged then the manoeuvrability suffers accordingly. I guess that's out of the window too.

Going through the cat at the start of the second video is particularly impressive, but I would not necessarily want to do it every time I entered the ship. I think FD need to be particularly careful of walking around ships, because there's a good chance that you'll be there on your own, so making it worthwhile will be an extra challenge. The Normandy in the Mass Effect games was just on the right side of playable for me, largely because of the other people in the ship; if it were empty then walking around it would just be a chore

They are both lovely videos!

You can see the special care CIG has taken to eliminate shadow lego stepping. Coloured lights acutally shed coloured light. Multiple light sources not only cast individual shadows, but they are completely dependent on each other. The flickering white objects are simply there as quest guides.

Only a fool releases the week before Christmas. Sorry, I'm not sure if this is an argument for it being released this week or not.

Have to disagree, getting stuff out when people have time to play it is a good way off showing off how good it is.

Assuming your stuff is good, and not a bucket of crusty minge.

It's a nice and civilized thread (and forum) Brett. :)

I had the great fortune to acquire the rather special Wing Commander movie for £0.09 recently. It was worth every penny. And now I understand why Mr Roberts feels he has unfinished business in Hollywood. It would be awful to have Wing Commander as your only legacy.
