What makes a game that offers both male and female player characters sexist? Is it because it's a game about shooting stuff and flying spaceships? Because really, that's all I'm taking away from this argument.

I guess you're not taking much away from the argument then. Its not very complicated: a game/movie/novel/whatever is sexist if it discriminates in some way solely on gender. Think of 'all top pilots are male, except for the token female who occasionally has emotional outbursts.' cliche you have in many sci-fi movies/series.

As for the rest I dont care much beyond the fact that the SC universe is boring as heck, despite it being from 20xx rather than 1992. The original WC may be excused, SC is not. FWIW I dont personally think CR is sexist, I just think he is reliving the fantasies of a 14-year old.

Anyway guys I didn´t watch last live stream....just saw the last few min. and that looks really bad....Is there was anything "groundbreaking"that desreve to be watched?Any new false-date for 2.6???

2.6 is now thursday.

It was so funny that CIG themselves took it offline.

There has to be a copy of the stream around somewhere - I suggest popcorn and a fresh lulzbucket :)

I don't get what they think they have achieved by taking it offline - it just makes them look more stupid.

Apparently there are copies of it in existence that can be readily viewed - who saw that coming?

ED has a chunk of that as well of course, but we have more subtle options: Want to help people instead of blow them up? Join the Fuel Rats. Want to sell your guns and take off to see the galaxy? Hook up with the Distant Worlds guys for some pointers. Interested in thinking about aliens rather than nuking them? Cannon.
And I'm in a minority here, but feeling vaguely guilty about all the virtual slaves I've off-loaded over 30 years, I can head down to Cubeo and do some PP for Aisling.

I wouldn't particularly call these feminine activities (well, maybe handing out tons of Aisling's facebook is. How does she even do that?), but they are complexities and subtleties that simply don't exist in SC. I'm sure CR will wave his hands and say these things will be in Later™ but they evidently aren't a priority.

SC is supposed to get exploration. Of some sort. At some point. And trading. And there's the Vanduul, AND the Vandull too now, so there's that. I just don't get why we have to turn everything into a gender issue. My car is a Renault Zoe, but I use the male pronoun when talking about it. I got called out for that in the past.

And you're right, activities themselves aren't masculine or feminine. They can be typically associated with either one, or both, but isn't it kinda the point of gender equality to look beyond that association?

The radical gender watchers are looking for what they consider to be violations of social justice in everything. They are a cult and an insidious tyrannical one at that. No one feels threatened by them. people are just fed up with being told everything is an ism.

They are merely unthinking shouties delivering entertainment :)

Just like Star Citizen management - full of sound and fury ;)

New patch for the 2.6 PTU
2.6.0j patch notes
Welcome to Star Citizen Alpha Patch 2.6.0j, PTU Testers! For the complete 2.6.0 PTU patch notes for the very exciting launch, you can find them hereYour launcher should show “2.6.0-488990” as the client version. It is strongly recommended that players delete their USER folder for the Live client after patching, particularly if you start encountering any odd character graphical issues or crash on loading. The USER folder can be found (in default installations) at C:\Program Files\Cloud Imperium Games\StarCitizen\Test.
Please do take full advantage of the PTU Issue Council to report any bugs you encounter, as well as contribute to other players submissions.
Important Issues
Be advised that, in order to receive new lobby invites, you will need to restart the client after every match. Star Marine Leaderboards are not in-game this build. Our planned Electronic Access improvements for sequential map loading (“mega map”) are not in this build. Scan is not complete, please refrain from using it (“Tab” key on default keybindings). Missile rebalance is ongoing. Flight Balance Changes to include Acceleration, Afterburner, Boost, Fuel Rates, and Jerk are ongoing. Workaround for Front End UI Issues: Either use the old UI(ui_frontend.startup_mode = 0) OR on the main menu hit the “Escape” key and then “Go To Hangar”. Once loaded into the Hangar, you can use the Elevator to connect to Crusader or ArcCorp
Updates

  • Added Player Animations to the Caterpillar’s pilot seat.
  • Optimized a number of ships to fix Cockpit LODs and removed duplicate Physics Proxies.

Can't be much of a tyranny if nobody feels threatened by it. As for the 'sexism in games' debate, it is a legitimate subject, but this thread (about a game who's sole distinguishing feature is that it hasn't been released yet) is probably the least sensible place to hold it.

Wow that live stream was such an embarrassment on every level,I mean that was BAD, really....really...BAD...absolute garbage....CIG overcome themselves this time and I "applaud" them........bravo!!!

Otherwise I'm making a game in my head right now, with a scope that's EVEN BIGGER than Star Citizen - And by your standards the plan alone is already worth throwing money at. So stop buying SC Ships, instead buy Toumal Wagons as they're even better. My game is even going to simulate the player's digestive tract with utmost fidelity.

<stands up and grabs wallet>

Except that's all just words and what counts is whether I can deliver on such bold promises, which I can't.

<sheepishly puts wallet away>

I'm sure that CR is desperately inventing the technology to refactor the internet as I type.

I've been working on Advanced Tapeworm Simulator for decades. Perhaps we should join forces and grab heaps of cas... urm, bring fidelity and realism to the untapped Emergent Digestion Game market?

And here is some early footage, bear in mind it's in the very early stages of development, pre-pre Alpha and it's only taken a few decades to get this far as all the teams have to come online and get up to speed.

It really depends on what type of project you are working on. In my experience there are 2 , routine and prototype. In a routine projects you know all your variables, you can plan to the exact oz, weight, and cost of the consumables, man hours and capital you will need to finish to the task, and even in this type of project there will be unforeseen problems ( opportunities I like to call them for morale) that will arise but because this is a routine project you have accomplished many many times before these issues can be fixed with increase cost and man hours without allowing the time table to slip.

Prototype projects are a different story, there is a degree of preparation you can do going into the project with high hopes that any problems you encounter along the way wont push your time table by a problematic margin. But there will always be the unforeseen in this type of project. What if one of engineers was a bit off with his measurements for a mount for a new prototype antenna installation on the tail of an aircraft? what happens when a 4 hour satellite aligning procedure has software issues that cant be fixed until the following day because of back end issues? What happens when the requirements to get the prototype antenna to pass FAA certification increase the installation time table process causing a loss of a full work day? What happens when you find out the modification needed to finish the install will take addition FAA inspection and certification from the aircraft manufacture and that can push you a few more days?

Prototype imo is what CIG are doing in the majority of the tech going into Star Citizen. Maybe that's why I have more patience when I view the "delays" and "deadlines".

Agree 100% Great minds think alike :D +1 Rep
Dunno where that SC/Space Ships is anti-girl talk came from. Although the internet/game communities can be a harsh place for girls I feel that in Star Citizen has plenty of active engaging girls in its community that stream and produce Star Citizen regularly. Even if there's only male avatar available and mostly gameplay that involves some kind of fighting there's a lot of interest in the game from girls.

Sofiegrl streams sometimes (was playing 2.6 just a while ago) and makes podcasts with other girls about Star Citizen: https://www.twitch.tv/sofiegrl/videos/all
Batgirl aka Nichole D'Angelo has a youtube channel dedicated to Star Citizen and also features several girls only talk about the game: https://www.youtube.com/user/StarCitizenAA/videos

There's a community for girls with a few members already: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/orgs/GIRL/members

This feminist talk is nonsense imo, even Squadron 42 seems to include plenty of strong female characters in key spots of the plot.

Concerning actual important issues about Star Citizen the game, it seems 2.6 is being well received by the community not only regarding to Star Marine but also the new flight model and the updates on Crusader PU.

I think it is wrong to label power-fantasy and simulated violence as distinctly masculine. Having that view, in my opinion, is a product of being brought up in a gender role focused society and being closed to looking beyond.

Boys like trucks, girls like dolls...get where I'm coming from? I've been gaming with male and female friends since I was young and I've know a number of men and women who enjoy the gaining of power and dominance over a virtual world. Similarly, I've known my fair share of diverse people, including myself, who enjoy the homemaking simulations of The Sims.

Power-fantasy games have majority male audiences because most men are socially conditioned for competition. It is more beneficial to the goal of breaking gender roles to welcome women into the fight without altering core of the game mechanics to suit some definition of femininity. Leave it to personal preference, regardless of gender, to decide whether someone should enjoy a game or not.

That being said, I think it would be appropriate to feature women in official game trailers/previews, which I think they have. It does surprise me (well, not really) that there is still not a playable female avatar.
