The Star Citizen Thread v5

Ah, now, this is something that i expected:

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/5lini9/new_player_frustrating_first_experience/

SC is going to face some of the same issues that ED has faced.

How are CIG going to deal with this sort of thing? Let it happen? PvEers and even PvP agnostic people are going to have annoying experiences. Do they implement the PvE slider? But then the PvP crowd will complain about people hiding away in PvE mode. Crime and Punishment? There is a fledgling system in place as i understand. Criminals spawn at a different location. How long for them to get to where their targets are? How difficult will it be for them? Will NPCs hunt them down? If too draconian, the PvPers will get upset they can't actually get to their targets.

Will be interesting to see how this develops.

Yep. I remember when DB explained elite's bounty system and how it would deter "senseless killing", only to have an EvE online guy take the microphone and point out that they tried this and it doesn't work, because two users collaborating can render it useless AND make a fortune with it.
Gonna be fun to watch CIG come to the same realization eventually...

Which is likely why they won't do it.

Tracking every bullet might not be necessary....at least so far as assuming them to be a discreet object. It might be enough for the system to know SHIP A has opened fire - so generate an appropriate animation - and then have it clauculate hots and damage and sending that information to the clients, rather than keep track of thousands of objects. Or maybe they will.

Sure. Clientside hit detection without modeling individual bullets for non-hitscan weapons. This is gonna play really well.

Three updates per second? Wow, much Fidelity.

This I expected, too.
I think, this is one of reasons why "low fidelity" game called Elite had Solo and Private modes from day one ;)
But I remember that SC also promised private servers...

And since SC universe is much smaller than Elite's and community is very toxic I expect total griefing show like in Major Tom videos...

I'd imagine that the SDC will have a lot of fun playing Star Citizen. It would be nice if it has a decent crime and punishment model, but, like most of the gameplay, that has yet to be revealed.

On the topic of release dates, it seems to me that CIG/RSI has an almost magical ability to keep their backers on board with a minimum of deliveries. Certainly they stumbled recently with the anniversary livestream, but funding was good throughout 2016 and there's no great sign of the scheme collapsing yet. As long as the next release date is always just another few (moveable) months away I suspect they can keep it going almost indefinitely.

I dislike the PR approach where opinion not in line with company thinking is suppressed, but it seems to work.

I doubt that all greifers now will move to SC, but anyway lets see how SC will combat greifing...
In general, I am 100 % sure that PU anarchy mess will destroy a lot of backers dreams and they will demand private servers...

Don't worry, I think it was Orlando who was adamant that griefers wouldn't stand a chance against the awesome skills that come with being a SC True Believer, and that he and his guild would send them packing in short order.

Actually the Community is mostly much Friendlier than the one in Elite lol.
But well nvm the Comparissons.

SC currently has no Law Enforcement outside the Starter Area which is Posing a Big Problem.
The Same Problem in Elite Persists because Bounties etc are One System Only and thus nobody gives a crab about them anyways.

And I actually Fear that if they dont do anything about that it will end the same as in Elite.
In Elite right now in Open. Any Unknown Player that Enters your Instance while your not in a Safe Zone like Docked in Port or something. Is usually considered an Enemy right away and will either be Killed Preventive or will be Watched very Closely.
This is very likely to happen in SC as well if they introduce some sort of Law Enforcement System and Punishments for Murder.

Elite is currently simply Ignoring this Problem.
So I actually hope that SC will do better and get a system in place to actually fix that.

In Elite this would be fairly Easy to be Honest.
By simply increasing the Area of Effect and the Bounty Amounts.

Killing someone should not be 5k Bounty but should be 100k Bounty + 20% of the Ship Value and if Killed the Legacy Fine should be 5 Times that Amount to make sure that this cannot be used to Farm Credits between Friends.
The Area of Effect can be Solved very Easily by either having you Hunted for Murder within 100 LY of the System where you Murdered. And this Area of Course increasing for each Murder you Commit.
Needless to say that being Hunted for Murder would Deny you Docking on any non Anarchy Station within that Range.
Or by extending these Bounties to the Super Factions and Faction Alliances.
So Federation Factions will make you Hunted in the Entire Federation.
Empire Factions will make you Hunted in the Entire Empire.
Alliance Factions in the entire Alliance.
And Independent Factions will be assumed to have a treaty that makes you Hunted by all Independent Factions (Except Anarchy)

This way the current Pirating Style of just Pirating in one System after the Other because you got Thousands of Systems which only Block you for 1 Week anyways.
And most of all the Joke of an Fine of 5k Credits you have to Pay to be allowed to land there again after having Destroyed a Ship worth 2 Million alone on Cargo. Would be Solved.

For SC as the Factions are somewhat more Dominant around the Universe. It might actually be enough if your only hunted by that Faction.
Especially as the traveling Mechanics etc work differently anyways.

Actually the Community is mostly much Friendlier than the one in Elite lol.

Good analysis.

Regarding this bit though, i think there is a very simple reason for it.

Everyone is dreaming the dream of what SC will be. Its being marketed as all things to all men. However, as much as that is a nice dream, sooner or later reality will bite, probably as the game gets closer to the real 1.0 release. Divisions WILL occur with in the community, and that's when the in-community fighting will really start.

Haven't been following recently, what is SDC?

Smiley Dog Crew, notorious for it's meta gaming with griefing. They are basically full blown griefers with combat logging tendencies. Some of them maybe are genuinely interested in PvP, but again, for meta game purposes.

I'd argue against that. Some of them are decent guys and interested in challenging combat. But there are bad eggs, like in any group.

That's one a cracker to decide which side to back.

I will go with Orlando and gang on this one, because I passionately hate meta game griefing in all forms.

Not sure Agony, but I haven't investigated them that much. I will take your word for it.

The same could be said for many a group of undesirables in and out of game worlds.

They are not the game's friends. They won't be to SC either and with real money on the line it should be amazing to watch (in a sad way)
