The Star Citizen Thread v5

Actually the Community is mostly much Friendlier than the one in Elite lol.

1) Maybe, one of reasons is because SC is not out yet and there is no gameplay to complain about and discuss...before release in 2014 Elite forums was very similar to SC current forums - a lot of positive dreamcrafting about bright future..
Now its never ending threads about Open vs Private/Solo, about exploits, grind etc = its creates a lot of hostile groups and hate in forums

If in 3.0 SC will introduce promised gameplay elements like trading and etc. I am quite sure positive dreamcrafting will end and "real life" problem threads will arise...
Like it was with "Golf swing" that was presented by SC was mechanic for ship scanning...

2) About crime system in PvP and why FD do not fix it?!
I think answer is simple - PvP is not FD's focus -> DB sees Elite as PvE game...

Good analysis.

Regarding this bit though, i think there is a very simple reason for it.

Everyone is dreaming the dream of what SC will be. Its being marketed as all things to all men. However, as much as that is a nice dream, sooner or later reality will bite, probably as the game gets closer to the real 1.0 release. Divisions WILL occur with in the community, and that's when the in-community fighting will really start.

True.
Right now the People Playing SC are mostly the People which actually Play as an Star Citizen as its called.

As so often. Outside Attacks make it much easier to Band together on the Inside ^^

I hope that SC will Introduce a Proper System before the Release tough. So we get this Problem Fixed before they Release it. And actually I hope them to do it before the Problem goes worse in the First Place.
Because even now this Problem is indeed Growing. The News of SC being Free for All has Unfortunately Spread pretty good.

The Universe being a Shared Place Helps Delaying the Problem a bit. Because you aint Limited to an Instance and thus Chances are that if you find an Victim as Pirate you are also easy to Find for Pirate Hunters right away.
But even so if nothing is done on this. The things will sooner or later get Dominantly Toxic in SC.

Hope Dies Last as they Say.
I am still Hoping for Elite to actually add a Proper System to that as well.

ED community is quite friendly, however it seems lot of people trying to play ED or spin around subject of ED not playing it keep acting very hostile towards game. This creates backslash - obviously. Overall people *just playing ED* are very friendly. People who *don't play* or find issues with game are very toxic and shouty and loud.

For example, if there's thread who discusses awe of discovery of enjoyment of combat there's always three or four people jumping on this thread complaining and saying we are some wierdos or white knights. Granted, it is a bit of irony that it same happens here - and I really don't like to pry on people enjoying SC in current form, as I said, I fully understand where they are coming from - but I suspect that is classic formula all over the Internet for games (at least threads I have seen over reddit follows same pattern).

Currently SC 'verse is akin to Open-Only and Lave system only.

With the added spice that when someone blows your ship up, you have to wait longer and longer each time for the insurance to return it to you (unless it is still insta-spawn in the PTU?)

Once they did away with the PvP / PvE slider, it was only a matter of time that the shotguns began aiming into the barrel of fish.

Praise be for Solo mode, I have never run into a CMDR I disliked in Solo ;)

I think lot of people, including devs at CIG, looks forward to see Crime And Punishment system FD works on in action. Because it is a bit of crux of such games as ED - at least of it's MP element - to see proper consequences of "jumping on" other players. If there's a bit of balance or path towards it, it is possible to carve out quite substantial Open universe where players don't have to switch between modes (unless they really just want to play PvE).

I really really hope it comes with 2.3. Would be nice important feature worth waiting for.

Yup - this is just the start of the community aggro - well realistically it never really went away - look at the katamari threads on any contentious subject.

They've still got the following to look forward to ramping up as it becomes more obvious how things will pan out;

PVP v PVE
Combat logging
Groups being over powered
Controller wars
Plus the usual endless nerf/balance arguments about everything

To be fair none of these things are unique to SC - but they will probably be much more aggravated due to three things.

First the way they handle and suppress everything on the forum just ensures it will blow up harder and secondly the insane amounts of money some people have in the game and lastly the ridiculous incompatible expectations that have been allowed to fester as a result of trying to be all things to all people (which FD have as well just not to such extremes).

It's all coming down the line and will arrive in time ...

Before balancing forum battles there will be huge battle over soul of SC. "Depth" etc. gameplay will be thrown around - like that thread with hugely overcomplicated mechanics as way to handle scanning in SC vs. simple golf swing mechanics. And "depth"-ists will lose badly again, because they simply don't get it. And it will create huge rift within community.

SC is peaceful because there's no game yet. When game will actually start to appear, there will be riots.

It's reassuring to see that CIG have completely fixed both being able to be in space without a space suit, and the Freelancer door problems :D

Yeah....and by the way I am not waiting any more for pressure doors to open and all that procedure instead I just run through the door-texture and pass the chamber...its way faster....

Nice to see they've implemented time saving workarounds for the less "immersion" conscious player!

Reminds me off the NMS community...BEFORE NMS got released.

Addition:
And for SDC going to SC...to be honest i dont mind atleast they will have to pay real money if they want to be "competitive" against all those super guild with their super duper fleets....if it ever gets released.
At least the salt will be much bigger...so i can understand SDC going to SC.

I am 99.9 % sure that there will be a lot of exploits to get rich fast...without paying anything ;)

I'm not sure. Depends on how much an advantage those big ships really get. And besides, why go after battleships when you can go after traders?*

Or.... instancing. 1 battleship vs half a dozen SDC members in starter ships.... i think my money would be on the SDC guys.

* of course they have to add trade to the game first.

He was describing the bandwidth requirements for an instance with 1000 players.

Assuming a client-server setup, then the positional and heading data for each ship would take up 288 bits sent by each client to the server 3 times a second. So client upload bandwith requirements would be 864 bits every second. Of course, in reality there'd be a good bit more information sent but Hanz was simply looking at position and heading.

The server, however, would have to update 1000 clients with the information from 1000 ships....so its datasize would be 1000 times greater sending to 1000 clients so its vandwidth requirements rould be a million times more.

But even then....chicken feed for a data centre.

So I am not sure why he thinks each clients would require a 300 meg link just for positional and heading data when it appears only the central server might require that type of bandwidth

Maybe because 1) he's right - as I've written about the same challenges; even pointing out why we designed a bespoke system for Line Of Defense to get around that issue 2) he works at Trion as one of their lead networking devs who work specifically on MMO games?

Krull? Dune.....

Krull is the glaive and seeing when you're going to die. Hold the sands tightly, as they run out so does your life etc - wonderful stuff

I just checked the script you are right, I was thinking of the "you'll not come back at all" line.

I blame Germans and their tasty nourishing wheat beer.
