Swirly ThingWhat are we going to call that ship?
Guessing it's overlooked, I personally wouldn't read into that list at all-- modules are probably null to zero compatible with our systems.
In the old GalNet article https://community.elitedangerous.com/en/galnet/uid/57ada8969657baeb6e876c6c the Veliaze system is mentioned.. have people snooped around there before?
AWBAAAK it is!Alien Wreck But Actually Alive And Kicking?

And how do you know the scan isn't an attempt at communication?

Unknown Ship Entity (U.S.E.)?
We need a reference![]()
From viewing a few videos, after their interdiction the alien passes the interdicted ship, then turns & faces it, then the lights on the 8 arms flash in an apparent pattern and there is an audible signal at the same time. I think they are definitely trying to communicate; where are the Canonn sound engineers?
Thargoid behavior has changed a bit in different version. What we do know, is that they were not the aggressive party in the very first encounters.
If these ships are scouts for a different hive, they may not even know what happened the last time. In that case, no aggression is to be expected.
The last time the Thargoids were faffing about in the Pleiades, they were actually trying to establish contact with humans to get an antidote for the Mycoid that had infected their ships. First contact at that time was with Commander Mic Turner. It was peaceful until INRA showed up on the scene. Mic Turner has his name on a base in the California Sector, so he is definitely not a myth. Details are unclear though.
UAs, UPs and now these 'Scouts' all seem to be interested in our ships. We don't know if they are just making statistics or if they are interested in a certain commodity or technology.
They have also sent out these small messages. They are probably intended for us in some way.
Thargoids may be looking for a Mycoid cure again or they may have fixed that them self and search for something else. Something not human.
We should at least not kid our self in to thinking that the Thargoids are particularly interested in us, as a species. Our worlds are to hot, our technology is naff and our logic is incomprehensible. [???]

Additionally, we should report all locations where encounters occurred. I have my Courier loaded with scanners, no weapons, 31.54LY range (not taken the time to lightweight all the utility mounts as only just bought the KWS) 636m/s boost speed (DD3, never killed a UA for Palin) and ready to go looking for them. My plan is to start at the edge of the UA shell and see if encounters occur outside it and/or how far inside you have to go. If the encounters are ubiquitous, I'll head to the California nebula and see if they happen there as well.
.
My guess is they are checking up on the Barnacles and why they are in such a bad state and investigating whatever ships they find. Of course, they could be looking for something/someone else. That they are not shooting at us suggests to me that they are content to scan us and that we are not considered a threat, at this time. I hope that we can remain peaceful - I plan to try and communicate, limited to local chat though I might be.

Got a nice shot of the alien cockpit though, even through the distortion field
