It just occurred to me while I was being ganked...

...on my run in to Jameson Memorial at Founders World.

Yes I was on my return journey to Jameson Memorial in my Corvette out of Ammo and out of SCB's (one left) when I got ganked by two FDL's. So I lined up and high waked out.

Yawn.

Switched to solo and completed my journey back to Jameson.

OK so every so now an again these wasocks bag an unsuspecting customer (is that like an orgasm for these idiots?) but I gotta ask FD: What is the point in allowing these fools the mechanics (or absence thereof) to just generally inconvenience players and spoil the ED experience?

Why FD, why?

Time lost - 5 mins max.

------------------------

OK OK "ganking". Was I ganked? Probably not - as is explained later. Perhaps someone can suggest another word?

Hey, that's what I did in my Corvette when I was ganked (was out of ammo)!

Sometimes I do that when docking / undocking at Jameson because the trolls are just too much of a pain in the .

Seems pretty clear that pk ing is an intentional part of the game design. It also seems that NPC security and system security level is an intentional part of the game design. As many have said, if the NPC system security and related C and P are not effective, it follows that the devs' default position is to favor pk ing rather than authentic stated game immersion with "system security" standards. It's interesting that the devs don't hesitate to nerf money making missions and strategies, but still tolerate this kind of player behavior that is not consistent with in game stated "security levels" .

In high security systems, spawn security forces with every interdiction. That solution is consistent with immersion, and restricts potential pk ing to medium , low and anarchy systems.

'spawning' ships totally breaks immersion, and explicitly contradicts lore. In quite a few of the novels there have been situations where security needed x minutes to SC to a situation, so the 'victims' had to fend for themselves. Having strong police presence near the primary star and interdicting wanted players is an option. Magically Spawning Ships is not. FD has been constantly working on the security levels, and things are MUCH different now from 1.0. Being interdiced by pirates happens vastly more often now in anarchy compared with high-sec, and security response is many, many times faster in high-sec compared with low-sec.

But traders really need to get to terms with the simple fact that no, there will be no Fairy Corvette saving your behind all the time. You need to be able to take care of yourself, or at least a good thirty seconds or so.

Indeed...& congrats for kicking it all off in style!

Where are you now, Achilles7? It's been a few days since you called me out with a rude take on my CMDR name. Maybe we ought to settle that account up.

Shoot me a friend request:)

You play in open, then you're playing another player's game. You play in solo, then you're playing FD's NPC gank fest. Lose-lose IMO. ;) :D

Seriously, though, you play in solo, you play your game, just the way nature intended you to play ED ... IMO :)

I do wonder why any PvP/ram-griefing is allowed to occur at the Founder's World of all places. I always tend to imagine the place more as a civilised 'no fire' zone, a 19th Century Gentle(persons)'s club.

It's just not Cricket.

Ho hum.

Happened to me yesterday. Heading to Jameson in my Annie fiited out for max trade I was interdicted by a Cutter with some well engineered weaponry. Not in a position to fight, I high waked out and changed to solo. Can't see the problem myself, it's no different to an NPC interdicting you except the pilots are better and the ships engineered better.

Completely agree - but would add Players intent on hostile action against you are persistent, NPCs not so much.

I've taken the liberty to emphasize what I think is a crucial 'mistake', if I can be so bold. I often do fake interdictions against cmdrs, which means I get behind and in range of a cmdr in another ship but don't actually press fire. If I had to guess I'd say that in 95% of the situations there is zero response from the other cmdr, no matter if I were to switch my cobra for my corvette or fdl. They simply do not check their radar often enough, are on the shipping lanes so my signal gets masked or they just take their chance and do nothing. In reality, IMHO, gankers do not suddenly pop-op behind you. Rather, one suddenly notices there has been a ganker for quite a while. Remember that most people fly ships that are vastly more agile in SC than the usual 'uber-cutter-griefer', so thats where the 'victim' gets to win:

1) Stay off shipping lanes, espescially in known griefer hotzones.
2) Always select every cmdr when they appear on the scanner.
3) If the cmdr is in a potential combat ship, turn towards it and scan for FSDi, SCB and such.
4) If its a potential griefer loadout, take no chances and start spooling your drive.
5) When spooling up for a jump to a different system, never just point at the destination until your FSD is entirely spooled up. Until that point just keep pitching towards the potentially hostile cmdr so he cant start the interdiction. Remember that ships like corvettes and cutters are so cumbersome to fly in SC that they can only interdict an Asp or Cobra when we let them. :)

If the interdiction is started and succeeds, you indeed will be toast. And trust me, after engineering to the max your asp will still not be able to boost outside of weapon range as you can against AI. Dont invest too much time on making 'griefer-proof-engineered-ships'. You'll be playing their game, and its one they are much better at anyway. And beating them you're way is actually loads of fun. Griefers at engineer bases for example expect you to drop out of glide within the base, or very close, so you are within weapon range before you even realise there are other people. In my cobra I drop out dozens of km earlier, and sneak up onto the base at low-altitude in silent running. I have A-sensors. Most griefers do not. I see them before they see me. Every time you deny them the kill, keep in mind they may have been waiting for over an hour for just this opportunity. You may even consider that you playing it smart is causing the griefer grief. :)

Well...

1) Staying away from the main systems and from where the story is, isn't really what's fun about Elite, is it? Every time something interesting happens I should stay away instead of having a look myself? In this case I can uninstall Elite right away.
2) During the last few weeks I was hanging around Cubeo to try and rank up a bit with the empire. My plan was to gain money and ranks to get me an iClipper at some point. The ship isn't exactly expensive regarding its size so I thought I might give it a go. Maybe Cubeo was a bad decision in the first place, but I surely never expected the amount of ganking there. But also a lot of other CMDRs were always around the area. Most of them clean players but often in big ships like Cutters and the like - so you never know. So I always tried to check all CMDRs in the area but very often I checked the wrong ones first. You never know which one is the one before you check him. Hollow markers all around. And the next second the interdiction starts...
And you're right, they mostly don't pop up behind you, but sometimes they do - kind of. Even when you don't fly from the star to the sation in a straight line, at some point you have to close up to the station that is the destination of your mission and more than once the ganker who was probably reloading/rearming/repairing at the same station entered SC right beside me when I was just a few more seconds away. And again these few seconds were too much, I got interdicted. And very often they hang around the star and are on your tail the moment you enter the system.
3) Will not happen any time soon as I'm out of open for now. Might enter Mobius or not, but will most probably not come back before some reasonable c&p addresses the problem. Due to what I explained I'm neither willing to let some ganker idiot ruin the sparse time I have in the game, nor am I willing to spend my ingame time in some meaningless corner of the galaxy just to evade some morons.
4) See 3)
5) See 3)

I'm not even against some PvP action in general. But what I want is some kind of believable environment where something like murder is dealt with in a VERY harsh way. You know, in any society I'm aware of, murder is the worst crime to commit. But in Elite a murderer gets a tiny bounty on its head which he can get rid of very easily. But don't you dare to loiter in a station! You will face insta-death-penalty! I mean really, what is this? PvP when I have a bounty on my head? My own fault - well, at least as long as the bounty is the result of a REAL crime and not loitering in a station. PvP between CMDRs who engage in PP? That's what it's for, I'd say. Sadly some "nice" piracy is more or less impossible at the moment. Would require some kind of "soft" weapons that only disable a ship temporarily or something like this. Like the ion-cannons from the X-Wing games or similar.

And you can believe me - as soon as you fly around in one of the big ships, CMDRs will be aware on a whole different level. Nobody expects a player in a Cobra to interdict anybody. It's just not the ship a ganker would use and other CMDRs are not to fear. When I see a CMDR in a Cobra I don't care, I sometimes greet (o7), but the moment I see a hollow Anaconda, Corvette, Cutter, Clipper, FdL or even Vulture in my vicinity, I sometimes don't check anything, I just jump out rightaway. Been bitten too often...

But again thank you for your efforts to help. Although I might not need it any time soon, I will surely remember.

If you play Open don't feel like PVP, Q has some advice for you:

Murder is a legitimate career choice.
I do feel the game should change somewhat if that is your choice.
Subsidized re-buy costs for starters as the pilots federation would be able to recoup the monies when the murderer is eventually caught.
You want to run around killing cmdr's? Fine, but it's going to cost you when you get caught.
Gankers would reduce when they get hunted down whereever they go and hit with a hefty fine.
Legitimate career psycho's would love it.

Quick correction, murder, is a legitimate gameplay option. It's not much of a career choice as it won't make you much in the way of credits. At best, it's a hobby. It'd be awesome if they'd change that though. Imagine if commander scalps were worth rewards to pirate factions etc.

I would happily trade scalps ;)

I totally agree that "instantaneous" is immersion-breaking. It is NOT immersion breaking that the process of an interdiction should leave a recognizable energy signature, and that security forces within a high security system should investigate all interdictions - especially involving a non-wanted commander. If 15-30 seconds seems like a reasonable window for the "corvette fairy" to show up within a a high security system, then that NPC should show up and unload on the wanted interdictor without in-instance scan since the wanted status is available in supercruise. Are you really arguing that pk ing should be a protected endeavor in high security systems?

That's already what happens as of 2.2, police ships will no longer waste time scanning the ships present if someone is being shot at.

Meh,

I got interdicted in Jameson a couple days ago - first time in a long long time.

I was surprised that the interdiction didn't make the player Wanted. When did that start? I thought that used to be automatic.

Not a big deal, the chap was polite and asked if I would like to engage in some PvP. I obliged until I started taking some damage and just outran him. I'm sure he must have been quite proud he "ran me off."

I think System forces eventually showed up, but I don't think they did much.

It is wa it is - I just don't care about it anymore. It's easy enough to go into GP when I don't want to be bothered.

After 2 years, I would think everyone would just start accepting that what we have is the way FD wants things.

Someone please PM me if it ever changes...
