Had 1 UA and 1 UP in hold.

As soon as I pressed "Jump" I knew it will be an intercepted jump.

The FSD "loading" sounds were different and on countdown it had more bass sound. The hyperjump was longer than usual and the destination star was very far - these are good "Thargoid" indicators, at least for me.

I just noticed my headlights were still working! Maybe we can turn them off and on to communicate?

Another ruins interpretation

So as the ruins are being discussed again, has anyone else noticed that the bottom left circular area looks a bit like a bar galaxy?

While what I'm implying may seem a bit crackpot, I'd like to highlight for everyone's consideration that the possibility of Galactic Hyperdrives having existed historically, even though they don't currently, has just been made completely feasible.

There's only one difference I've noticed in each piece of footage brought forward so far: The direction the ship jumps when leaving. Have there been any efforts to have CMDRs line up behind the ships before they jump, in order to triangulate possible destinations?

I've been searching for an encounter since yesterday, but have yet to experience it for myself.

1. Install AFM.
2. Get a friend to degrade your FSD with a tad of subsystem gunnery
3. Check to see if in increase the Hyperdiction Ratio?
Hmmm.
... I'm a bit too far away from a outfitting right now.

Some data from me regarding hyper-'dicts:
Yesterday and today i was snooping around in the Pleiades and Aries region.
I have never travelled to a barnacle, alien wreck or ruin.
I have owned a UA once, dropped and destroyed it planetside.
I have never owned a UP and have no UF in my micro ressources.
No interdiction.
Tried 4 hours.

That's a very useful piece of info! I second your suggestion. (Actually I suggested the same thing a day or so back, but I hadn't seen anything else on that front until now! :) )

the interdiction have died down sadly. (I want to know why but FD are very quiet... for some reason youd think brookes would drop a snarky comment or a hint or something)

Actually, now that you mention it so we're mine. So our ships still have power to some systems during the event. I wonder I flashing our lights in return may provoke some other response?

This is as I feared.

For all our efforts with the UA, nothing really came of them - it was just intrigue and a visual spectacle.

Same with this :(

Nothing really came of them? We have a second bubble only because Jmanis and others experimented with UA bombing and used it on Jacques'. If you call that nothing, then I really think you're expecting too much.

I flew around for ages with and without a UA in my cargo hold and didn't experience an encounter. However, as soon as i scanned a barnacle in Marope 5 C i was hyperdicted next jump.

Does anyone know if its possible to get pulled out without scanning the barnacles? I've noticed there are also achievements for scanning barnacles which may be there to encourage players too scan them and experience the encounters.

I didn't have an UA or UP with me when i was hyperdicted.

There has been no indication of this whatsoever Cookie.

And as usual Mr Brookes will not come and drop a hint at your behest.

It's been a couple of days and there's plenty left unanswered - everything is proceeding as normal.

Created the new account, farmed the biggest Sidey FSD and got out there. Got the interdiction after about 150 jumps in eco mode. Tried about 100 jumps, then touched (got scanned by) a UA and after about 20 jumps it happened. Had no UA at the interdiction. HF!

Ok, so I've been meaning to bring this up for a while and have never bothered but it seems pertinent again now, particularly given the box in the ships cockpit and its man-made appearance,, and possible connections between the winterdictions and the UAs.

Given the fact that the UAs send message using morse code there are only 3 basic possibilities:
  1. They are built by humans
  2. They are built by something non-human that has either human heritage or has had human contact, and has specifically designed something to communicate in a way easily interpretable by humans (It's a trap!?)
  3. The use of morse was purely something that FD used as part of a puzzle and they didn't think through what the implications of it were for the subject of the puzzle and the ongoing plot of the game

All the UA stuff happened well before I started playing so this may have all been sorted out at the time, but it generally seems to be that the UAs are considered Alien which would mean option 3 wrt the morse code. Has option 3 ever been confirmed as being the case?

If not, then surely the most likely origins for the UAs are human/human heritage.

Option 3 has not been confirmed, but I think it's the most likely explanation from a meta point of view.

In game, note that humans have scattered nav beacons which broadcast morse code throughout the bubble and they can be found crashed in a far wider area (for some reason). Note also that initially the UAs behaved exactly as nav beacons do: they broadcast the name of the nearest stellar object; the ship scan and line drawing behaviour came later. IMHO the most likely scenario is that the UAs are of alien construction but incorporate technology from our nav beacons. Initially it was used unmodified, later the UAs evolved or were upgraded to the use Morse in a more sophisticated way.
