Due to their shields I don't think a hatch-breaker limpet would work. But if I get chance I'll give it a go!

I reckon a wing needs to be created here. I'm going to wager that, even if the location of the aliened CMDR is accessible, it will be too far out for a wing to drop in. We've seen an NPC drop in, but not a player.

Everyone seems to be concentrating on the Scan but it's the first (rather awesome and scary) croaky rattling noise that seems significant to me, and more likely a form of communication as if to say "we are about to perform a scan of your ship". Has anyone checked it out for Morse or anything else?, seeing as they use it in what probably are their unknown artifacts?

to me that sounds much more like the the purrs U get in UA/UP transmissions, just an octave deeper... but definetly worth deeper investigation

This is an extract from my own encounter on Xbox, I've chopped it to just the scan, and slowed it down so you guys can have a clearer look at what the ship does during the scan, because it does go by quite quickly. Sorry for the video quality - Xbox DVR is awful.

Those same yellow light filaments are also sent out to create the hyperspace portal. I hadn't noticed them before until a guy accidentally rammed the scout and for a brief period they could be seen. Usually we are too far away to notice them.

So here's my scientific factual contribution to this mystery. Just had my first encounter this evening.

Let me preface this by saying I have NEVER had ANY contact with UA or UP prior to first contact. My experiences have all been through Youtube.

I DID however, visit the barnacle on Merope 5c prior to first contact. And that was the only barnacle I visited.

I began my search Saturday night and devoted several hours. After checking this thread and verifying no UA/UP was required, I set about jumping in and around the UA bubble in area of first contact. I made perhaps 30 jumps with no success. I then found a UA. It scanned me, and I honked it. I scooped it, and again set to looking.

I'm sorry but you can't say that you've had no contact with a UA or UP prior to first contact and then go on to say you picked up a UA before first contact. It doesn't add anything to the data collected so far and shouldn't be included by M.Volgrand as it muddies the water.

Everything from Monday onwards is good :)

I haven't had even the slightest contact with UA or UP. Will head out towards Maia in a few hours and see what I can find out!

Dunni, but I'm game for trying it?

When I got Hyperdicted I dropped back into the system I was leaving, but I was 22000Ls away from the star.

If you can cross that distance accurately and be close enough to drop into a friends beacon (assuming it's not shut down) before much happens I salute you.

When the new patch goes live, there will be a mission from Ram Tah to scan the ancient obelisks. It installs a decoder in your ship.

The mission should be available at all stations in the MEENE system. The results of successful scans were disabled in beta, so this is new territory.

I addition, the CTD issues in the Rift, Coflux and Hawking's gap should be resolved.

These are the documented new features in the mystery category. I would not be surprised by a few shadow updates as well. Our new friends may start behaving differently tonight.

It's live now, just upgraded and logging in, enroute to Meene as we speak :)

Do you need to be friendly with the engineer, or anyone can get the mission?

I think anyone can get it. It should at least be available at the station where the Ram Tah CG was (forgot the name). You should not have to go to the Engineer base at all.
