Alien archeology and other mysteries: Thread 9 - The Canonn

I found out something specific about the ancient items and how they relate to the obelisks this evening.
First of all I went through all 27 permutations of items you can carry in the SRV and scanned all 15 active obelisks, recording the response on a grid.
Then I double checked it (yeah, I really did the circuit 54 times in 2 evenings!).

I'm broadly finding my results are similar to others, however because of the way I've got my permutations listed I noticed a pattern in the data.
I was recording where I scanned a Guardian data packet, whether I got a message of failure from Ram Tah, or no message at all. (Any mistakes in the sheet aren't intentional)
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/157Dsf2Db_XD3_vvpkaO0Z0m1wMzU-Dx79yfxohHlbXM/edit?usp=sharing

And that was when it jumped out at me that 4 of the 6 items "unlock" a group of obelisks so that they don't report a failed scan attempt.

A big jump out is that Relic with Totem doesn't work on ANY of the 15 obelisks that we know are active.

This is very interesting.

And it makes the "Totem" quite relevant. I would suggest that the "Totem" has something to do with the "Towers" (As they are both "Towers")

Here is an excerpt from this page: read:http://wonderopolis.org/wonder/what-is-a-totem-pole

"Totem poles are sculptures carved from large trees, such as the Western Red Cedar. In North America, totem poles are part of the cultures of many indigenous peoples of Alaska, British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. Totem poles serve many purposes beyond their beauty, and their meanings are as varied as the cultures that make them.
Some totem poles represent stories or important events. On these poles, each figure on the totem represents part of a story. These totems are used as a way to record the history and legends of the tribes.
Figures on a totem pole are not gods to be worshipped. Instead, they represent traits and characteristics each clan or story embodies.
There are many other types of totem poles. Genealogy poles are erected in front of a family's home to represent the owner's clan or social status. Memorial poles are carved in honor of a deceased clan member. Mortuary poles are also raised in honor of the dead and include a small compartment for the ashes of the deceased. (EDIT by OP - Look familiar?)
Another interesting type of totem pole is the shame pole. Shame poles are carved to embarrass and ridicule someone who has done something wrong."

What interests me here is the idea of "Various stories"

Perhaps we can somehow use the "Totem" in conjunction with the "Towers" to activate other "Stories" (Obelisks)? Rather like moving on to the next data set...

What do you guys think?

Gyp.

Edit:

To add to this from the front page:

It seems:
Orb - Technological Data (Epsilon)
Casket - Historical Data (Gamma)
Tablet - Language Data (Delta)
Urn - Biological Data (Alpha)

Totem - Cultural Data (Beta)
Cultural Data contains every aspect of a Culture - Technological, Historical, Language and Biological data.

EDIT 2: Possible Clue:

"This data contains details regarding the rise of new technologies. It appears that the development of these technologies varied between clans, creating inequality and, ultimately, conflict. Initially, that conflict was resolved through personal combat between individual champions, but as clans started using numbers to overwhelm their opponents, the practice of warfare began to spread. This led to a surge in weapons development, with biological warfare quickly established as the weapon of choice. An arms race began, focused on the development of biological agents and various counter measures. It saddens me to discover this as I had hoped the Guardians would prove to be more advanced. A little naive I know as conflict is a common element of many species throught the galaxy. Wheather for resources, land or power over others. We all seem to share this shame."

Or another way of looking at it:

Biological+Shame = Urn+Totem

New theory:
Adjudication server disconnects reset the instance preventing the progression of the obelisks. another player will generally prevent the reset...

Not convinced - CMDR Eugen Bold (above) talks about hanging around in solo for an hour (respect!) without seeing anything interesting and last night I didn't get any disconnects and didn't see anything special happen (admittedly I was relogging a lot). Something must be happening in open that activates the different obelisks, but I'm not convinced it's time based.

There any way to know you scanned with a correct combination other than the message? Sounds, lights, host of heaven appearing behind? There's noises there but my ears aren't good enough to know if it's important

I got tech data 11/20 just hanging around without scanning anything with orb+tablet on board. lol. It must be a bug.

If any of you are using chrome right now and are on this page on the fourms. do CTRL+U and type "Searching"

Odd..

Interesting metadata too!

<meta name="keywords" content="totem, this, poles, data, development, biological, conflict, that, many, began, between, technologies, these, warfare, their, shame, with, clans, represent, clan, carved, stories, varied, various, contains, pole, more, other, from, towers, would, opponents, using, numbers, overwhelm, spread, quickly, established, weapons, surge, front, practice, creating, rise, appears, another, weapon, regarding, what, historical" />

Sounds very peaceful...:(

No one has ever been inderdicted by a Guardian.

That is a Thargoid. There can be more than one alien race.

Ram Tah seem to know of a few sentient races if his comments about the Guardian's data we have received are accurate.

Which make me think 2.4 could be Aliens.

Are we sure this isn't just bugs and the patterns should be the same for everyone?

It seems utterly implausible that they can both be different for everyone and at the same time encouraging multi-player interaction and sharing of the results.

Sad to say I'm calling bugged. It's time someone in QA and project management got a proper firecracker up the donkey - that's a bunch of releases on the trot and they're out of excuses.

I agree. I've mentioned this a few pages back. The obelisks shut off after a scan and don't reset, so what in-game mechanic, per se, is "reloading the game"? I think FD was forced to rush to get this live, due to the ruins being discovered too early, and thus they're still bugged. (I've yet to receive the 13th piece of data, after 2 days of scanning every type of possible combination.

Hey, thanks :D

I ended up relogging and I have been using this map right here plus one of the spreadsheets that gives a list of the combinations. I thought the obelisks randomized their permitted combinations but after relogging even in solo, but I just used the map and spreadsheet to get two winning combos. So maybe they don't swap up (in solo, anyway). I was having trouble last night getting a combo to work but I probably misread the obelisk I was supposed to scan at.

Still, I had to relog in order to get the obelisks to become scannable again. That, or the timer to cycle the obelisk back to a scannable status is +1 hour.

I don't believe it is check out these screenshots the moon is rotating.

[IMGUR]pqtw1[/IMGUR]

I looked at the stats and the period of rotation is -6.9 days, orbital period is 6.9 days but the rotation axis is -90 degrees which is straight up bizarre from an astrophysics point of view. I originally looked at the rotation rates matching and assumed a tidal lock with parent Brown Dwarf, then went on to complain to Frontier that this was an error because the tidal lock should be with the moon.

Not saying that this is 'aliens' but it's wierd.

Yes we do.

Thargoids are known all female.

"Guardians" described as being two-gendered much like us.

Still unclear at all why they're "Guardians" and not just "the ruins aliens" as there's zero whatsoever to suggest any kind of guarding behaviour or nature or anything about them so far which is rather sloppy plotwise.

Frontier seem to have adopted the name this thread gave to them, which was purely based on the name of the update.

The messages are often unreliable. In the vast majority of cases I don't get the success message until the following scan, which could confuse things enormously. The most reliable indicator is actually watching your reward in the mission screen. Check that immediately after each scan to see if it goes up.

After reading some of the theories since yesterday, I'm beginning to think that the obelisks need to be unlocked in a specific sequence, like a combination lock and that different obelisks are in groups creating different locks. An incorrect scan "locks out" that obelisk preventing that sequence from progressing. The reload, resets that sequence. It could just be a big tinfoil hat on my part, but I'm going to try it.

Yes. 3. The UA grip was in 3 pairs. The UP communicated in binary triplets and almost everything in the rune has some tessalation based on triangles. Three seems very significant in both architecture and data communication

But the UAs/UPs, which look very organic, don't look like they belong to a race fascinated with geometric shapes. Are we sure they're related?

Assuming yes they are, then perhaps we should look for two systems that form, with the currently-found one, an equilateral triangle, with all sides having a distance of 3 or a multiple of 3, from each other. So, any system that is 3, 6, 9, 27, etc. light years away from Synuefe XR-H D11-102 is a potential candidate :p (although this is a very shaky basis for searching)

I have a hypothesis that the various objects sticking out "connect" with each other, forming a grid of equilateral triangles. I didn't have the tools to make the angles perfect, but here's what I think it roughly looks like:
Zqgg7X9.jpg

It's divided into 2 overlapping hexagons, and 5 lines are drawn across, perpendicular to the sides.
