So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

Seems like you left out the Hawkins Gap Gamma base out of that timeline

Oops, Hawkin's Gap Gamma logs added. Thanks Razioer

Hawkin's Gap Gamma Mission 4/4
Expedition Log: 01/10/3270
"I'm logging this, but I shouldn't be. Bunch of guys were talking about the beacons yesterday and then there was a mysterious accident in the airlock - they're all dead! Feeling aboard is mutinous. Just want to get back home. I ain't doing no top secret missions again, that's for sure."

Taken in isolation, the implication is that they were killed because they were discussing the beacons. However, it could be a continuation of the the 'suicide by ejection' theme.

It's mentioned that the Hawking's Gap crews were told not to discuss the beacons or their transmissions. I imagine since one of them then started transmitting unintentionally and crew heard it this was getting rid of those who'd heard more than they should and not a suicide action.

The only talk of real space madness is from the Rift logs.

*Ahem*
Conflux Beta Mission
Witch-space is different out here, there's something odd, those lights we were seeing are less frequent now, but they seem to be hanging around, almost as if they're following us. Maybe I'm going nuts.

And we're still missing 3 of the Conflux bases...

I've had the co-ordinates plan for a little while and this is all of the bases so far plotted.

Bottom left RG should read RB

Myself and my fellow DRX commanders have been in the Gap looking at the projected sectors for the last base, and the mathematically correct co-ordinates (with a wider search area around it) and have come up with a big fat zero....

It would not be logical to make a pure rectangle from the co-ordinates - an Alpha to Beta to Gamma to Delta pattern would be more suitable, BUT that means you get parallelograms rather than rectangles.... which means the projected position for the final Rift base would be somewhere near Kenya.....

Yea I'm thinking they'll be distress beacons, maybe 1 or 2 derelict ships & almost certainly more unregistered comms beacons!

Formidine Rift Alpha Mission
I'm scared... help me someone... I can't bear another jump. The lights in witch-space are coming for me. The lights... always the lights... they're calling to me... a siren song... I must join them...

Formidine Rift Alpha Mission
AUTOMATED TELEMETRY REPORT: CANOPY BLAST BOLTS ACTIVATED. LIFE SUPPORT MALFUNCTION. CREW VITAL SIGNS TERMINATED. SHIP SYSTEMS ENGAGING STANDBY MODE. DISTRESS BEACON ACTIVATED.

Anybody else read this as suicide by ejection?

Yep!

What bugs me is that we haven't encountered any of the strange things mentioned in the logs in any of the 3 areas. I'm not aware of any hyperdictions, distress beacons, strange signals or heat sources in the Rift, Gap or Conflux. Where did all these things go?
Maybe we just haven't got to the right places yet? (but we gotta be near! right?)

I was out searching in the Hawking's gap for the beta site, dipping in and out of OC at interesting points and going down low for a good look (not in VR for a change but fullscreen borderless on my tv). Anyway, 'g apple update pops up and took away context from Elite so my controller input went at exactly the worst moment :'( I couldn't get to keyboard to be able to alt-tab so I could boost to avoid the ground so "pop" - back in the bubble with my 21mil in bonuses, and exploration data gone. I don't think I'll make my way back over there to search this week and I'm away next week anyway, so I guess I'll leave it up to you guys :/ Good luck everyone.

My tinfoil theory goes something like this:

The pertinent message log from the base on EAFOTS EU-R C4-1 planet C2 for this theory:
Finally fixed the drive, more monotony. Can't believe it's nearly six months sice we set out from Riedquat. Did I say Riedquat? I meant Reorte. It's getting to me, this endless emptiness. The guys are showing the strain. Three more months before we can turn and head back. The stars are thinning out, you can the whole galaxy just hanging there...

The math:
It took them nearly six months to get from Reorte to EAFOTS EU-R C4-1 which is 8,434 light years away.
If they had half again that distance to go, it would be 4,217 more ly.
Add the 8,434 ly they have traveled and add the 4,217 ly they have left to travel and you get a total distance of 12,651 ly from Reorte to the 'Target Destination'.
Reorte is roughly at 48 on the Z axis, EAFOTS EU-R C4-1 is roughly at 129.
That's roughly an 81 increase on the Z axis in 6 months, so cut that in half to 40 left to go and add that to 129 to get a final Z of 169.

Now the hard part, how to make a line from Reorte through EAFOTS EU-R C4-1 to the Target Destination. I suck at this, and just used my eyeballs and the gal map. I flew to the area and then placed a selection triangle at EAFOTS EU-R C4-1, then went to Riorte. Spin the gal map around and I am 'behind' Riorte, lining up the blue triangle at EAFOTS with the orange triangle of my current location and doing my best to make them line up. Then add the Z height.

What have I noticed so far in my target area? No jumponium needed to get here in my 51ly capable Asp. The area I'm in has no CMDR tags. I'm experiencing the bug where the Heart (or is it Soul?) Nebula is not visible where it should be. This is a known bug, although some still think that there may be something blocking the view of the nebula.

Sound crazy?
Math wrong?
Comments welcome! Now that I'm in the area I'm just going to scan whatever systems are here and hope for the best.

Anyone searching on Conflux that can confirm A 3 A moon, it is 700km radius? Does it have permanent dark side or not? (Unfortunately I did not scan it last time I was there) I'm thinking to help, got back to bubble yesterday but I'm already bored :)

Loving this thread! Haven't been out to these places yet.. it's on my to do list. Meanwhile i'm trying to get my Anaconda jump range above 50% increase at Farseer.. not going well!

Just curious though, how long roughly is it taking everyone to fly out to the Formadine Bases? my AspX is 45 ly jump range. Wouldn't mind seeing these alpha and beta base comms for myself, and take a look around. Just not sure whether to fly out now or wait until the Ancient Ruins mystery is on the back burner.

I'm at A3A right now. Radius is 712km, tidally locked with permanent dark side. Been here for 5 days now, nothing to report. Also has silicate vapour geysers though I have not found any.

It's only tidally locked with its parent planet - the position of the sun does change. I left my ship parked in daylight last night, and it was dark when I returned.

It's tidally locked around the planet/ringed dwarf. Isn't the orbital period of the planet like 212 days and the planet a couple days? That'd mean that the planet is just like our moon and would not have a permanent dark side, right? Or am I missing something?

Edit: nvm, ninaj'd by bcc :)

Thx, thats great news, anyone is trying to organise systematic search or whack-a-mole style only? :)
