Guys, guys! We need to jump a SRV on top of a ship and fly it around with high speed! The guy in the SRV can scan with the wave scanner during the ride!
It was 3303 year.. The humanity still not managed to make a actual surface scaner. So in 3303 we decide to put the only one thing in galaxy that have actual surface scaner SRV on top of our ship so we can fly and scan surface.

It was 3304 year. We managed to produce new type of ships.. with a SRV on top.. It was welded to the hull. We are proud of this achievement.

Ok - here's a thought about the olde ruins.

What if:
- the shape of the ruins indicates 2 stars that orbit each other (hence being linked by the outer wall).
- each of those stars has a set of asteroids (hence the 4 mounds around them).
- the 'north' mound is surrounded by 3 pyramids, one of those is indicated by the line from the mound.

A possibility is that this indicates "IC 2391 Sector ZE-A d101", and within that system one of the first 3 planets orbiting one of the bottom 2 stars. (possibly somehow lined up with an asteroid from the star - but I don't know if that's even possible? how do those orbit?)

But, that does feel like a lot of guesses chained together.

Remember you can go to your External Camera / Debug Camera to look about while flying.. not cockpit or HUD in the way that way.. ;)

Taking a break from utterly blindly flying around planets, I decided to take another quick look at the ruins site and take a couple of pictures. If anyone still has any ideas on relating the ruins' shape to a possible location, have a gander at it. I tried outlining the "structures" that I saw in them. I also took a pic of the site from 12 km up using the low terrain material quality option, just to get a better idea of what I need to look for.

Actually, is it possible for you to add the spawn locations of all 'ancient items' to that map? I know the ancient totem and ancient tablet always spawn at the same place.

The only problem with the cobra in this case is that you can't see below you. An asp (or similar) where you can no just look around but under you as well, is better if doing it from the cockpit. Any ship, however, is fine if you level it off and use the external camera to do your left/right look sweeps.

Or you can flip your ship upside down and move the ingame head to look above you (mine is set to toggle on the middle mouse button)

/start topgun
Why?
You know, for international relations
/end topgun

I'll see myself out now

Looks like the typical texture glitch that has been there since pre 2.0.

The geology and location of the Planet makes it a good candidate.

So I'm going to investigate further all location around the "canyons" in the glitch area.

EDIT:

Nothing? dang...

So you think there's only one additional site and Ram Tah sent everyone else on a wild goose chase for the ultimate Troll experience?

It's possible I suppose, but if it's true I suspect I'll be quitting this game in disgust for a while.

I need to revisit to prove or disprove it with a video.
But early on when I visited it for the first days (v2 ruins) and no artifacts/relics, I'm fairly confident that I had the same experience.
With the right settings, the ambient sounds are loud with this one.

Keep in mind, with the v1-ruins they where visible from further away, so visual clues was the most important ones.
v2-ruins changed that.

For science, I visited site one and was indeed able to hear the ruins as described in your video, not sure of distance.

Landed, picked up a relic, took off.

Ruin sound did not appear once i was in flight this time. I flew a few km away to check, still no ruin sound. But i think there was briefly some *new* chittering close to the ruin (maybe from the relic?).

Unfortunately, experiment ended with gravity assisted suicide, so I'm now back in the bubble :D

If I had not died, i would have tried re-logging nearby to see if ruin sound started up again.

In case you were wondering, we are looking for about 20 km2 worth of Ancient Ruins in a total area of 4,031,628,079 km2 of planetary surface. Good luck bruteforcing that. And thank you FDev for keeping us busy for the next millennia. [up]

Yes, I actually summed up the areas of the landable bodies in the four systems.

Ooh, can you take one more, say 20-ish km high?

Here's and "Altitudes" picture of the ruins:

Hope it helps!

I recommend following the orbital path of the moons or suns where applicable. If there's one thing they seem to like it's setting the ruins in position relative to stellar bodies

Has anyone considered the possibility that the layout of the ruins we know about is a picture of the new system? This seems to fit with the language entry about the Guardians' glyphs.

In particular, the ruins could be viewed as representing a binary system (the two large circles) with planets orbiting them (the concentric rings). How to figure out where in the system to look I'm not sure of, but do any of the potential systems fit this type of description?

Yeah, I'm still at site one ruins, trying to von Daniken some clues out of them. So far no joy, but I'm still trying. I still think there's a good chance there's something to find.

No they don't I'm afraid.

I'm struggling to find any similarities between the ruins system or hints from the ruins themselves.

So am I. But not having found it yet doesn't mean its not there.

Likewise, my conviction that there is something to find doesn't mean there is, but I'm content to keep looking for now.
