So you want to know about the Formidine Rift? (Part 3)

I'm in an ASP with guns. Pure defense. They're fully gimballed, weak, and only to buy some time for getting out of dodge. My hull is down to 54%, paint is rough, and I really need to vacuum out the interior. If you see CMDR Schaefer - that's me. I really should have fitted better thrusters. I've had two ground-related events on this one hellish planet. A few pants-browning events, too where I wasn't paying attention to my pitch and "wow I have 1km to pull out of this dive) with meters to spare (a 180 boost is effective). I really want one of us to find this base soon so I can stop going blind, crapping myself, and scraping off parts of my ship. By the time I'm done it'll be the size of a Diamondback.

[haha] this was an amusing read

Gypsy here.

I need to get ALL of my ships out of the bubble. I want to send my type 9, sidey, Cobra 3 and 4 to Colonia. How much will this cost me? Does anyone know?

I also want to send my darling Asp out there too. But I need to stay behind for a bit so will outfit another Vulture and quick jump asp. I really want to get my basics as far away from the bubble as possible.

Cobra mkIII to Colonia = 61Hours of travel and 13.000.000 Cr
ASP ex. = 61Hours of travel and 32.000.000 Cr

I hope you re rich!

I put guns on the Asp before coming out to the rift this time, what with the strange ships pulling people out mid jump. So don't worry if you scan me and notice I am armed I won't attack. At least as long as I can keep the space madness at bay and not listen to those voices I hear in witch space.

Just open your canopy....that will vacuum your interior out real quick like. :D

That could cause more pants-browning, however.

I saw a screenshot of someone wanting to get their conda or something from the Bubble to Colonia. It was in the region of 7,000,000,000cr, give or take a few hundred million.

And the silence in the room was now tomb-like when everyone realized the real extent of the search effort... :D

Sorry for the re-post but I want to make sure I get this right before putting work into it. Are we absolutely sure that we want 7 points between degrees of longitude?

i.e. -180.0000, -179.875, -179.7500, -179.6250, -179.5000, etc...

Could we get away with 4?

i.e. -180.0000, -179.8000, -179.6000, -179.4000, -179.2000, -179.0000

Honestly, I don't think that anyone would feel realistically comfortable doing even every half a degree search. That would still be like 720 columns/passes of 3 hours each (i.e. 0 to -45 on each half a degree of longitude). But I'm trying to have a way to record my progress and anyone's else willing to join in.

Allowing 7 points between degrees of longitude means we are talking about 2520 columns (180x2x7)??

I just created the few first columns as an example...

Edit: this is for GL-Y E2 6

As a compleatly imparticular observor of the east-westers [followers of the one true and noble path to base attainment] versus the south-northers [heretics of the increasing error of non basement] clearly the cannon's method of searching 10 x 10 degree squares is the middle path eliminating the hardships of both the up-downers and the left-righters. It has many virtues being the scientifically approved cannon methodology, you don't need math as you can easily eyeball ground features to figure out where your next slice should be regardless of your preferred altitude or search method, it breaks the chore down into nice even numbered bite sized chucks that from practice should take not much more than 4 hours or there abouts per square. Yesterday I just had to re-check the one big crater on Plaa Aec XZ-Z b41-0 in Haukuns Gap which for that place is about 10 x 10, just because that's where I wanted the base to be, it wasn't but it didn't take all that long, was able to eyeball that I could do it in 5 degree wide strips so covered it about five passes.

Maybe if we adopt the cannons method they'll even stop laughing at the rifters.

I suppose rifters will stick with their regular ethos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk7yqlTMvp8

You are leaving out the diagonalists, and the randomists (who obviously worship Randomius). You really must be more inclusive :p

Infidel!

Everyone knows the proper search method is "Let me check that crater over there!" and "Look! A canyon!"

I have attained perfect sympathy with the other CMDR that ran their ship aground earlier. >.<
o7 best of luck finding the place. I'm heading back out with something a little speedier, just in case you folks haven't found it by then.
