We heard all the same arguments when Carter was President about how great he was doing in light of the problems he faced. But then we elected someone with a different approach and had a complete reversal of the economic malaise of the Carter years.
Yes, Obama got dealt a bad hand, but never solved any of the lingering issues, he, at best, survived them without making them too much worse. His will be the first administration in the modern era not to ever have had 3% growth in any year. His signature Health Care legislation is collapsing under it's own weight while at the same time creating huge burdens on business and leading to more people having to get multiple part-time jobs than a decent full time job.
The number only tell stories for the people that want to use the ones they like to support their own purposes, but the basic trends of the last several decades are undeniable. They are can be blamed equally on BOTH political parties. That's what makes Trump different - he was opposed by ALL of them on both sides and he defeated them all because voters recognized that he was opposed by the Democrats, the Republicans, AND the PRESS. Many don't even know that Trump was a Democrat.
Trump’s affiliations have gone back and forth. Here’s a quick look:
Month and year of registration
Party affiliation
July 1987
Republican
October 1999
Independence Party
August 2001
Democrat
September 2009
Republican
December 2011
No party affiliation (independent)
April 2012
Republican
By and large both parties (and of course, the press) still oppose him, but the Republican Party seems to be coming to grips with reality, albeit reluctantly. The rest are still in denial and reeling from the loss of power. They're still stunned and continue to double down. moving even further to the left. The more they squeal the more it re-enforces Trump and his supporters that they are doing the right things. The post-election press still hasn't accepted that they're not destroying Trump as they intend, but are actually destroying their own credibility. The difference in how Obama and Trump are treated by the press are undeniable any longer. The sham of "objective journalism" has been destroyed.
Wealthy people in office:
No, I'd really like my govt. run by street sweepers or corrupt career politicians...
Sorry - I'd like to see the best, most qualified people available. Hard for me to believe that men approaching or already in their 70's are going into govt. service for the first time, for the money.
It's more likely that this argument is just the left grabbing at anything they can to stay relevant and fund raise.
Racism - Obama was supposed to usher in the new era and heal the racial divide - gee, how's that working for ya?
Just because I opposed Obama's policies doesn't equate in any way to racism.
The fact that you can so cavalierly make an accusation like that without any knowledge of my race seems ... well, just racist.
Its not racist. You can be ethnic and still hate Obama for that. The argument could be made that you hate Obama based on the fact that he didn't somehow give more power to your ethnicity. Racism isn't one sided nor does it burn a fire in one group or individual. You ignored the question for quite awhile. Its an important question as I stated before. Race has to be discussed. This idea that we don't predetermine in some cases our like or dislike for our fellow man based on race, society, or culture is scientifically wrong. It is up to each individual to work against this predisposition and to admit to our faults whenever capable. I asked you this so I can get a better understand as to what angle you are coming at this from. Arguing my points with someone who is never going to see them makes no sense.
As for ushering in a new era. He wasn't supported by the senate, and as I stated above a bunch of people of his own ethnicity hated him because they believed he was somehow going to flip things over and make the other ethnicity/cultures useless. They believed that he was going to work entirely for there own culture. This was as dumb as believing that Mexican's are the cause for every problem in the US.
On the Media: You realize that going around the media by using Twitter is a way of control, correct? It has nothing to do with defeat. Unfortunately a lot of us have forgotten that political experiment we called Germany. A lot of the same tactics were employed and we now refer to them as propaganda. The media exists to hold society accountable for the actions of the many. However, I do happen to agree that there are bias media bases out there. Fox news is one. I mentioned my dislike for the Young Turks in a previous conversation/thread. The accountability I speak of is based on even holding these news outlets accountable and fact checking there own output. For example. Dan Rather got in a lot of heat when he lied about Bush and lost his job and credibility and has (today) come out of the wood work saying he is going to go after Trump. I don't want to hear from him based on his lies about Bush.
While you can call me a liar or bias, I am not. I have four children. I am in the military (meaning I actually protect freedom with my body, mind, etc). I believe that we as a nation must come to decision and work for the betterment of our entire body (community, society, and world).
On Trump switching who he is for: I wonder and I could be wrong, if this was his goal to become leader? He said in an interview in 1988 that he would run for the Republican party because he could say anything dumb that he wanted and they would elect him. He said that they would go for any over the top and hateful things he said. I wonder if he was testing the water and looking for a party that would push him to the presidency. He has claimed he would run for office a few times, including in 2009 when Obama ran. The time wasn't right. The political climate wasn't right. It is now.
My concerns: Listen, he says he doesn't believe in Climate change... its been proven. You can see the glaciers melting. Even in the 1960's the automotive companies stated it was real. They had there own scientists that buried it because it wasn't good for there bottom dollar. While I don't pretend to understand the entire situation I can see it with my own eyes. As an example, growing up there used to be 12 feet a snow every winter. Now snow doesn't come every year. This is alarming at best. I get it, that isn't conclusive evidence, but it makes me look around and ask questions. When I do I find that most scientist think climate change is the biggest problem that the entire planet is going through that needs to be addressed and changed.
On Trump opposing all: We have seen this before in history as well. I don't think I have to tell you where. This is a double edged sword that could get you what you want or could cost you everything including your freedom. I understand what you want. I see it, I even agree with it. I just wonder if throwing out the entire way your government works in favor of a new system is the best course of action and if it will actually get you what you want or if it will remove the things you want from obtainable goals. I don't particularly like for example that politicians get millions of dollars to run for office... I don't think they should get any money. With that being said, even Trump got money google it if you think I am wrong. He even promised varying offices to people who would support him and came through in the end. That is why you see people like the owner of Carls Junior in office now.
On being cavalier, that's allowed when you do it but not when I do it? It is not cavalier to ask a question. Its cavalier to completely ignore it then out right call me racist because you aren't strong enough to answer the question and have to bring your own supposed race into the situation. I already stated long ago in a post why I was asking if you didn't like Obama based on his race. You could have shut that down in a heart beat and you didn't. I suspect you are deflecting now. Conversations aren't supposed to be one sided. You make them thus by ignoring rational questions in order to present your argument and make persuasions. The reason why this race era you are discussing has not taken hold is because of this issue. Its not racist to ask about race. Its racist to act on race.
