Well look, just to throw this out there. It's probably already been explored, but I've been enjoying doing my own thing in Hawkin's and seeing where it leads, so might as well update.
Some things :
- Unknown Artefacts rotate and always point to Merope, whereever you drop it
- Unknown Probes rotate and always point to Merope (well a planet in the system)
- When the Unknown Probe is near an Ammonia World it sends a siglnal directed at Merope, you can only hear this signal if you place your ship in between the UP and Merope
So there's some mechanics Frontier wrote into the game...
- Frontier have implemented a system where "items" can orientate themselves to a distant star/moon
- Frontier have implemented a system where signals are broadcast in the direction the target points to
So (and as I say I'm sure this will have been explored).
I've been looking at the beacons and seeing which way they point, do they consistently orientate towards any distant object. The theory being if they are RELAY beacons, it's likely they are orientated to receive a signal from the expedition.
For Hawkins :
- Alpha site, Logistical, beacon is missing!!? It was there, I've seen Youtube videos. No idea!
- Beta Agricultural seems to point to PLAA AEC IZ-N C20-0 a very close system, but this appears approximate, I'm not sure it is actually pointing there
- Gamma Agricultural, also seems to point to PLAA AEC IZ-N C20-0, again it actually seems a wee bit off
- Delta Research, points upwards
For beta and gamma the very close system they point to, I am not sure they are actually pointing there, it seems close but a touch off, it is hard to line your ship up to check.
My line of thinking initially went, well if no triangulation, (if the beacons aren't all pointing one way) then follow the beacon line for the RESEARCH base (delta), this is the one set up to receive useful data presumably.
So the more vertical line on the right is the delta site's beacon orientation. The diagonal one that goes higher (I'm following these all the way to the galaxy ceiling) is the beta beacon path.
Of course nowt has come of this.
Except finding a few great looking planets.
But still.. I can't stop thinking that the beacon orientation has significance. [ugh]
Has anyone looked at this in the Rift?
