The Star Citizen Thread v5

Very telling the amount of salt in that thread towards the game. Even more telling is the lack of the SC defence brigade not out in force shouting them down.

I would recommend looking at star citizen's youtube channel sorted by oldest to newest.
And see the progress they have made....
2016:

....

So in early August 2016 they were trailing v3.0.

In late December 2016 they realised they needed to spend January 2017 making a plan for it, to know what should be in v3.0 and when it might be ready.

It's February already and I'm guessing there's no update on this.

Yup. Great job right there.

As an aside, many of the forum replies on the "best-game-ever-created" thread wouldn't look terribly out of place here - tbh on my infrequent visits to the RSI forum I've notice a particular weariness and/or realistic resignation in a very decent percentage of posters there.

Still hoping CIG can produce. Still don't think they will.

It's obvious they are a long way from producing anything substantial.....a very very long way. CR's inability to manage the expectations of backers (he does the opposite and stokes the flames) further grinds my gears with this project.

I would rather he come clean at the honest state of the build...I could at least respect him for that and start to rebuild my tarnished relationship with him.

I do believe it is too late for that at this point.::his cit con (you guys are g awesome) line was so awkward and obviously at a loss and embarrassed he had. nothing really to show...vulnerable but trying to push through it...with his ...could smel it a mile away.

My expectations for a decent game are gone...I'm not going to caveat that with I want it to succeed cause that's redundant at this point. If it succeeds and they manage to release something that isn't a pile of dog pooperella I'll be genuinely surprised and will concede to the fact I indeed know "nothing about game development."

Right now it's just bad PR, terrible project management and a lack of honesty. The devs are no doubt working hard spinning the hamster wheel but if I were them i'd he looking for a serious way out or a career change all together.

I've got a cold at the moment and am late to the latest Citizens of the Stars video - but was that really a system comparison, cargo hauling tutorial, patreon begging video?

Didn't they have all the armour sets designed a while back? But they are at the beginning of the pipeline?

Female character is in production????

Titan armour? Has Genuine Roberts played Titanfall and decided he wants that just like Sandworms?

Diverse the Verse has a female majority for urm, diversity.

Their custom controller guy either only ever learned wirewrap - or was asleep in multiplexing class.

Does Genuine Roberts have a new watch?

I've got a cold at the moment and am late to the latest Citizens of the Stars video -

Cold remedy
  • Two fingers of whiskey (cheap one like Bushmills - don't use a nice Scotch)
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • a couple of cloves
  • 2 tsp sugar or more to taste
  • hot water

At least it will make watching Star Citizen videos more palatable....

Exactly.
Even when they do eventually add substantial content then they'll have to polish and balance it.
That's going to be very entertaining to watch.

This is another reason why they should have stopped accepting donations at some point. Not only does this allow for boundaries and scope to be set, it relieves the burden of hype; CIG would be able to be truly open about the progress of the project, rather than worrying about how each communication will affect their future income.

As per my post yesterday i am totakky deflated about SC after the VR announcement however just to put into context tho, DB was demoing flight in procedural clouds in ED back in KSer and how long agocdid we see the character generator or see the smashed up model of the anaconda. Seeing a very early insider build of 3.0 and it not being out yet is no biggie imo.

There has been a very strong push by mods as of late to clarify that this thread is the SC thread and for Elite there is the rest of the forum. Personally I understand some comparisons may be unavoidable from time to time, so other mods feel free to edit etc.

Just so to clarify Mike´s comparison, DB´s clouds video was squarely set against the background of subsequent updates post main vanilla game release, and with absolutely no hint of timeline or date for those at that. 3.0 on the other hand was pitched as part of, not even SC 1.0 release, but its alpha, and furthermore estimated within 2016.

As for the Anaconda mashed up models, last time I checked those are in the game already, been there almost from the start, unless you are referring to something else.

I loved this comment...

Totally agree it's the best game that I've ever played.
Except of the fact that it has a terrible netcode, it's not skill based at all, gameplay balance is terrible, flight model is terrible, performance and optimization is terrible, aiming system is terrible, joystick experience is terrible, there is no flight skill at all involved, game design has huge flaws, and that kind of stuff.
But yes, besides this, it's definitely the best game ever made.

You're ignoring the bit where Chris Roberts stated 3.0 would be out by xmas. ;)

Allow me to preserve this for posterior - er, posterity.

I think I understand it now. Star Citizen is a space game. And in a vacuum, it would be the best game ever. QED.
Love the complexity argument btw. - because first of all, just because a game is complex doesn't mean it's good. Second of all, SC has had ample difficulties with such simple concepts as atmosphere vs. vacuum, resorting to a simple trigger volume that kills you if you are in the airlock while it cycles, allowing players to glitch through without a helmet.

I have no reason to believe Shankerz is trolling. We've heard exactly these kinds of statements for the past 4 years. Plenty of people still believe the hype, and as long as CIG doesn't proclaim that they're "done" there's always the option of pointing to some distant, rapturous future.

I struggle to believe that these people aren't trolling, there's so much evidence that contradicts their claims that you can only wonder how much effort it takes to remain so blissfully ignorant. Another example I saw earlier

More people submitted bugs to SC's issue council than actually play ED on a daily basis. Context is an interesting thing.

That's 1000 posts on the issue council, compared to 8000 on Steam alone, nor was there any context. Bunch of weirdos to be honest.

Not 100% but I think that guy was one of the I should be able to solo an Idris guys from the original rows about it in 2013.

So - if he is a troll he's a deep cover long term committed type!

ETA - and I think he owned an Idris

like I said I am no SC white knight I have alpha access but hardly ever play it.. there is no doubt SC is running late!.

DID CR specifically state WHICH xmas however :D

'Twas the refactor before Xmas and all through the 'Verse

No signs of progress 'cept things getting worse...

2.6.1 "scheduled" for release next Thursday though, so we have something to look forwards to (for various reasons...)
