All those people waiting for "few more months" for 3.0. Ohhh boy....

Wait. Wasn't there some rather recent Chris-mumbling to the effect that it might come towards the end of the year? And even without that, seeing as how they only a few weeks ago started thinking about planning what might possibly be needed for the stuff that's required for 3.0 to be released, how could anyone take that level of not-done-yet:ness and lack of clarity as meaning it'll just be a few months worth of work to get it out the door?

I think it is obvious at this point that people who are still residing SC subreddit are a bit...let's say they have stuck with their perception of truth. They start to feel they have been scammed, but that's an issue with victims - they rarely will admit they have been played. So CIG might even say "3.0 is 2019, suckers", they will still discuss potential release of 3.0 in August, June, etc. There's strong theory still going around that 3.0 is "Gamescom" release, which is obviously false at this point.

It reeks of desperation and I admit just ignoring SC subreddit as whole just because it is so sad to read it. I never found any pleasure to point at them and go "aha". We all love our space sims. They just want their space sim what they have been promised. Lately I even don't find it fun to ridicule it. It has all gone so wrong...

Its hilarious and sad to see people forgetting stuff like that so fast...like they dont want to hear that CR would say anything to get money out of their pockets...

It has been coming since the end of 2016. Most of the believers just hand waved it off as saying he didn't really promise that. Of course, it's hilarious, since we have him on the record...

That time in Aug 2016 when croberts said that 3.0 was coming in Dec, and definitely not on Dec 19th.

“..so, it’s our big end of the year release. er so er yeah, so we’re gonna get it out the end of the year; hopefully not on December 19th but, er, like last year….but it is a big one, so, not making er, I got shot for making promises, but er, that’s our goal.”

Of course, the SQ42 demo/trailer/reveal which was ready but didn't make it at the last minute, is still MIA. Three months later.

I dont think the waiting part is the problem. Things take time, we get that. The problem is that CiG requires a huge amount of cash each month in order to keep going. Progress is abysmally slow, many features are probably not even designed yet. How much is it for CiG to survive till october? 15 millions on a carefull guess? All the while only talking fluff not releasing anything of value in return? Sure nobody knows how empty or full the coffers are at CiG but going after the regular intervals at which ship sales happen which only increase workload and technical debt....therefore should be avoided if possible....indicate that their reserves are low. To be honest I m surprised they are still going but the signs for a bare survival crawl are apperarant....namely the slow development pace.

So we can assume they burned through 142 million dollars to produce what we currently have. Some disconnected game modi and an empty PU. Every other game delivering this investment-result-rate would ve been given up on or teared apart. Just take a look around. Other games get shredded for far less.

Maybe getting a publisher at this point would be a good idea to get whatever is left on track? Backers could tie their pledges to demands. First of all this would take organization on a massive scale so will probably not happen and even IF the backers could organize themselves....CiG would probably not go for it anyway.

Its sad really....I was looking forward to a refactored Wing Commander and relive my youths entertainment. Instead there probably will be nothing /sadface

At least I ll have Elite ^^

That video was published on Aug 19, 2016 - not Dec 2016.

The point is something that CR said/hinted would happen "they might shoot me for saying this (lol)!" - that 4 months later that didn't happen.

We're now in Feb - no official mention of what happened as far as I'm aware - and true to form we've had vague excuses about technical issues about bug fixing that creates other bugs - and surprise surprise - a new made up thing about magic cloud technology - Diffusion - to distract people..

ETA - re-arranged for context

Huge mistake for CIG was to reject MVP path for Star Citizen. At one point they had enough money to reject CryEngine, do their own from scratch, and start with MVP and get it rolling ASAP. Let's face it - it was clear from 2013 CryEngine didn't cut a mustard. If they could dropped it things would look different.

However more I think about it, more I just don't see how this could all end up differently. Way project was designed, without specific spec no nailed down, I just don't see how it would end up differently.

Then the devs said in January that major design decisions about certain important components hadn't been taken yet, which just made the whole CR comments re: '3.0 by December 2016' sound even more ridiculous...

This is one thing I can't understand. Why would people think that a new date would be anymore truthful?
There are people in that reddit thread saying they would be happy with a new date even if it turned out to be wrong... what's the point of that? Why are they enabling CIG to treat them like female dogs?

Star Citizens reddit's visitor numbers have not only dropped drastically, but posts hitting CIG right in the inaccurate release dates or for being a buggy mess are rapidly becoming the most highly rated. I think CitizenCon may have been a failure too far.

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/5tsswt/cig_ok_go_and_publish_the_262_schedule_this/

Well.....even the hardcore fans start loosing their patience with constant CIG lies&excuses while some others start loosing interest in SC so this numbers and critics not surprised me at all and I believe that most of us here know that already as we all pass these phases long time ago.....also if CIG delay 3.0 more further rants, riots and refunds will become more&more frequent and even if 3.0 arrive at the end of the year that just could be 2 little 2 late....3.0 must arrive ASAP if it exist at all in any form and if it´s playable no matter how bugged it is....

Reddit is a sad place - but this is totally a thing, and has been top post all day - WHEN IS OUR 3.0 COMING B...UDDY?

It's a less sad read. Despite the blind faith of the ultra devoted the enlightenment is coming

Yeah. The irony is that they really expect CIG to respond. It's as if they're not even paying attention to what CIG is actually doing nowadays.

Exactly. I agree with this assessment. I keep tell people these same things, that people aren't upset, wary etc because of the pre-Alpha state of the game, but the fact that, $142m + 350-500 people + 6 years, THIS is where they are currently. Thus needing to do all kinds of things to keep raising money. If backers had stopped giving them money, they'd have an incentive to complete and ship the game. But as it is, they really think they have a blank check. So there is no incentive to finish - anything. Like at all.

It's even more damning that it was SIX months ago now since he made those statements. If they were that close, they'd have something of 3.0 out by now. Instead, they have 2.6, 2.6.1, 2.6.2 and I'm going to guess that it's going to be 2.6.x or 2.7.x all the way to 3.0x (which could very well be anything other than what they promised for it).

Not to mention the SQ42 trailer/reveal which was just around the corner, but didn't "make it".

He was lying. Plain and simple. Just like all the other times before that.
