Intriguing. OK, I place my bet on Chris departing citing health problems and Erin taking over for just long enough for some new and unforeseeable technical issues require a new engine, for which the funds are lacking, followed by a closed Web site.
Any other suggestions?
Erin taking over would probably be the best outcome at the moment, simply because he does at least have a track record of delivering games to spec, on time and within budget. As I've said before, reining in some of Chris's wilder flights of fancy and reminding him that development is supposed to be a process with a defined end which involves delivering a game to market was apparently one of the key skills he brought to the operation back in the day.
Today is the anniversary of the Star Citizen and Squadron 42 split into two products sold separately
http://www.polygon.com/2016/2/15/10997622/star-citizen-made-a-big-change-in-how-its-sold
... which makes it the anniversary of the day that I decided he could shove his game where the sun never shines. What a beautiful moment.
I'm one of the seven or so people who was actually
more interested in S42 than SC when it was first announced because despite this being 2017 I still like single player games and obviously have good memories of playing all of the classic space games before the genre went on its long hiatus. Back when he first did the kickstarter before they even moved across to their own website, I was pretty keen on just the idea of an updated Wing Commander and would have quite happily paid for that, knowing that I was going to have the option of investigating the all-singing, all-dancing immersionfest that was to be SC as part and parcel of buying it. I distinctly remember that being the set-up.
Then it became '
oh actually we're going to split S42 into episodes, so rather than paying for the space opera game we mentioned, you'll actually just get however many missions we decide to include with the basic deal'. Obviously since I'm still on the healthy side of a lobotomy, I knew then that any promise made about the specific
amount of the original S42 story arc that would be included wasn't going to be worth the paper it was printed on either, since once they'd crossed the Rubicon and said
'it won't be all of it' how can you possibly trust anything else that they might say about it?
Then it became '
actually, you will just buy either S42 or SC and have to pay another fifteen bucks to add the other component'.
That's the moment when I realised that I'd seen something like this before and it involved an e-mail from a Nigerian prince.
I'm liking how the "day" in "Valentines Day" or "V-Day" sale has been refactored to mean 14 days.
If 1 day in SC land is equal to 14 days in real world land this could go some way to explaining the continually messed up delivery estimates!
Chris uses dog years.
