I hate to point this out, but over here in belfast, faffing has a very different meaning than what others think it means. Ye could compare it over here with choking the chicken ^
Ha ha, I can't rep you again.
Ziggy you're Elite in that!

So the for formadine rift mystery and guardians ancient ruins don't count as exploration activities?
What can I say? I hate chicken.Ha ha, I can't rep you again.

I liked NMS' exploration. Even though the game lacked depth overall and became samey, it still had more than ED's exploration. You actually found things, you scanned things, there was at least some dangers. It at least felt more engaging than jump, honk, detailed scan. I feel that someone needs to marry the ideas from Elite, NMS, Eve, and Mass Effect or even TV shows like The Expanse and turn it into something that fits Elite. It's not a matter of attention span, it's about creating something that's worth giving your attention to in the first place. When you can watch Netflix while you do something in a game, that something isn't engaging enough.
I see your ideas and that's what we need, just pointing out that it has nothing to do with attention span.
Nearly 3 years in I would have hoped for more than 2 major exploration events, the content of which was at best shallow.
Doesn't take anything away from those events or the cmdrs that took part.

. Asteroid belts are for mining only. They dont hide huge deralict ships or huge abandoned mining operations. No floating alien artifacts.

No. Nobody has made a single suggestion ever.
No need to stop your walk, bye.
Just ask yourselves, is there anything to find at the other side of the galaxy that you can't find within a few jumps around the bubble? Even nebulas have limited variety, once you've seen a couple you've seen them all. Exploring is right now is having your name on some stellar objects and taking screenshots to show that you went to x place far away.
It's a big galaxy. FD should start using it.
Really? I have never checked out asteroid belts or rings other than to BH in a HazRes. Its absurd to think there is nothing in them other than rocks. They should be full of all sorts of interesting things.
What an absolute waste not to utilize them for that exact purpose.
You're not alone.
I still find NMS far more engaging than Elite for Exploration. Elite doesn't have Exploration game play. NMS does. It's that simple.

And this is the crux of the issue with ED is that whilst people on the forums here have massive amounts of imagaination, it seems FDev do not.
When I think of making a universe, I think of a plaent spilt in half, derelict space hulks to plunder, maybe even alien ones. Abandoned outposts, ship graveyards, alien ruins, structures, new life forms, comets, weird space anomalies, etc. You get the point.
Nothing of what I just said exists in ED which is a spaceship game set in space.
The galaxy is literally devoid of anything except the following, once you're in the deep parts of space (this list may not be compeltely correct but others with correct me or add to it)
- Stars from a selection of about 15 (?)
- Planets from about a selection of 5 (lol ok jk and I don't know but I see the same pictures posted up of earth likes or they seem to be!)
- Those little asteroid cluster things.
- rocky landable planets
- Black holes
I tihnk that covers 99.9% of the entire galaxy we have.
