Ships Python Owners' Thread

So... after proudly flying the Python for 2-3 months, I finally got enough credits to go 'Conda last week...

... and since last night, I'm back in my Python. [heart]

As much as I love the 'Conda for its "one size fits all" capabilities that allows me to do fighting, hauling, mining and exploring all with the same outfit, I still didn't like its sluggishness.

So I decided to stick with the Python. Fighting and hauling is still easily possible with the same outfit, and with a properly engineered FSD, the jump range isn't that much shorter, either. Only for mining, I'll have to make some outfit changes, but I can live with that. I'm not a fan of mining, anyway, and will do it only to refine 500 metals and get some Painite, to unlock Selene Jean.

Here's a link to my current outfit: https://eddp.co/u/3kA186vx
My next project will be to increase the jump range to around 30ly, mainly by reducing the mass.
The idea is to go for an engineered 6A power plant, which should deliver enough power for the build. I may also remove one of my shield boosters.

And of course, I'm open for suggestions. :)

And once everything is tweaked and tuned, I have to get used to the thought that I may be flying my final ship in the game - at least until FDev comes up with a shiny newcomer.
A properly engineered Anaconda or Federal Corvette can get relatively fast and agile if that's your only problem.

Try some 0D boosters with HD grade 5 for almost the same shield strength (20T less mass)
That's a great idea, thanks!

as will enhanced low power shields grade 5 (16T less mass) or another 200 MJ with reinforced grade 5, personally I prefer the bi-weave + resistance boosters for toughness and fast regen.
I'm a bit torn between standard and bi-weave shield generators. Bi-weaves are great once your shields are down, or if you often fight in HazRES or conflict zones, where your shields have little time to regenerate between attacks.

But for the odd interdiction or some nav beacon action, standard shields work better for me, as even Anaconda NPCs will rarely manage to shoot my shields down.

Is there a good way to reduce the mass of the power distributor, without losing too much capacity and regen rate? With 80to, that's the single heaviest item in my loadout.

A properly engineered Anaconda or Federal Corvette can get relatively fast and agile if that's your only problem.
A properly engineered Anaconda may come close to an unengineered Python. But I doubt it can reach the levels of a properly engineered Python in terms of agility.

FWIW, with my Python, I'm not shy to attack any NPC Anaconda these days, regardless of its combat level. I don't win every time, but can (usually) still flee. And I did defeat deadly 'Condas single-handedly. So I don't feel like I absolutely need to upgrade to a bigger ship.

Maybe I will give it another go, once I have unlocked all engineers, and I will also give the Corvette a try, once I have the proper Fed rank. But right now, going 'Conda doesn't feel like an upgrade to me. So Python it is :)

I can put Elite 'Condas to their graves with my rather modest engineered MC's and 6C Bi-Weave. However, i have to admit, the tactics for an Elite 'Conda are always: Line up Properly, hammer a shield booster and a Heatsink out, 4 Pips to Shields and try to get as much speed to ram the shield down. Usually that works great and after that, it's rather easy, because i found getting through the shield of an Elite 'Conda is nearly impossible, before taking real damage - which in a HazRES is pretty much immediate fallback to the station^^

If Yu upgrade a bit more you should be able to do that to a wing of elite Conda and come back for more.

Hi all, I just want to drop that here as I don't see it being very popular but it works great for me.

I was experimenting with a plasma acc build, even before the buffs they get. These days I finally stopped on 2 Large 2 Medium plasma accs and 1 large MC. I have efficient weapon upgrade on the PAs (might switch to short range blaster to test it as well) I have one disrupting gimbals/turrets modification and one that deals more dmg when your ship is hotter. The MC has the "have less ammo but amplify all damage dealt to target" modification.

What I get now is that I melt large vessels. If you properly position behind the target (example when he is scanning another NPC) you can kill another Python or a cutter before he even has the time to turn around and shoot you. If you properly hit the Power plant it is gone. Elite condas take several more hits, but are easy to outmaneuver. PAs have a lot of ammo for the rate of fire. My MC runs out way before the PAs.
The biggest downside of this is that its quite hard to hit smaller and faster ships. From the larger vessels the FDL gives me most trouble, because it is agile.

The PAs might seem hard to hit if you just started using them, but after some getting use to them you can shoot even faster moving smaller targets.

Anyway, I encourage you to try this if you feel like trying something new. I personally find it quite fun!
Please tell me what you think if you try it out, Thanks!

P.S.
Originally I tried 3 large PAs and 2 medium MCs but when 2 of the PAs are on the top of the ship and the 3rd one is on the bottom It is easy to miss with at least one of them. So put your PAs on top and the MC on the bottom.

I presume you have access to level 5 efficient plasmas? I only have access to level 2 so running something like that would be a tad hot. I did pretty reasonably with frags though, and a single heal beam on the lower large. Still, that sounds awesome.

There is no level 5 fro PAs. They go only to level 2 AFAIK. Well I never take heat damage. The rate of fire is not that great, so you don't tend to overheat. Plus you generally want to fire when you have aimed properly and after the initial burst it seems that each PA recharges in its own time, so you start shooting 1 or 2 at a time if you spam the button too much.

Hmm... Strange. I specifically looked for engineers to modify my plasma ACCs and I didn't see that guy, I even saw some1 mentioning that it is sad that plasma ACCs have only level 2 upgrades. Thanks for the info then! I have a new mission then. :D
Cool, man. So just a heads up (because it's where I'm stuck) you need to get access to the system (permit locked) before you can do any business with him. Yeah, totally worth it. PAs are brutal so level 5 efficient?

Joined the Python club about a month ago, loving her to bits.

I use this cheap, light fit of my own design, works great for what i do https://eddp.co/u/J2g8z9zG

The Alioth permit is fairly easy to get although the bromellite can be a pain to mine (low yields even when you find it) I acquired over 60% of mine from passenger mission rewards.

Hello CMDRs!

Just bought a Python from a Federal Dropship. Loved the Dropship but the small jump range was killing me. 25LY on the Python seems absolutely massive in comparison.

I'm a big fan of 3 fixed pulse lasers but pip management can be a with fixed lasers. To keep a target in my sights I needs pips to engines and in a face off against a large vessel I need pips to systems to trade fire. I was hoping 2 pips in weps would keep my guns firing but that's not the case. I'm thinking about dropping the third pulse laser for a turreted large frag cannon to punish anyone who gets close. I know the theoretical range of a frag cannon is like thousands of meters but does the turret AI know to only shoot within 400 meters or so? Anyone ever tried it?

A quick update on this. A turreted frag cannon will not fire at the max range. Typically engages at 400 or so meters with pretty good accuracy. I spent some time in a high res testing it out. I did end up getting aggro from security vessels after about 15 mins after a stray shot hit a civilian vessel. I'm gonna keep using it. It's on the bottom huge mount so I've got to remember when jousting to let the target pass under me.

Hey, guys! It's been a while since I've been here. Anyways, I am wondering if anything has changed with the python in the last few updates? Also, with the upcoming multi crew update, will it be possible to have the gunner seat taken by an ai?

AFAIK only turrets can be assigned to a second Commander (no AI) and only you can take the helm, the gunner has a 3rd person view to aim the turrets and the ship gets an extra pip to use with weapons, shields and thrusters.

On fighter carriers other commanders can use the fighter, the FGS/Conda/Cutter/Corvette can have a commander gunner and pilot plus an AI pilot if a dual hangar is fitted.

Just traded my Keelback which has done me well for a few months for a Python.

56 million well spent i think.
Now to start earning some credits to kit it out.

Congrats on new ship!
play safe and maks sure you have a rebuy...

If you think that is great now, wait till you equip it properly and add some engineering magic :)

I owe properly equipped Anni but Python is my favourite big ship.
