Ships Python Owners' Thread

Well I turned her into my mining vessel today, and she performed the role beautifully. I just don't have the cash to turn her into a respectable combat or mission ship. It was rather relaxing since I haven't done it in a while!

Does anybody else find it comical how the in game description for the Python mentions that the design was originally by a company called Whatt and Pritney? I just love how it's an over-obvious play on Pratt & Whitney, the company that makes current day aircraft engines! (most namely the lovely A-10A Thunderbolt II) :p

The first thing I noticed when I bought my Python ;)

I'm using mine for almost everything, currently for exploration [big grin], and it is very good I think.
I'm using this build : https://eddp.co/u/1AUD6qdD , which gives me a little bit more than 40ly jump range, pretty decent for this ship, and it still can be improved !

I m starting to experiment with all laser loadouts for pve. Any suggestions on choices and engineering combinations from people that have done that? Seems most people go for 5 pulses, but beams seem to work nice too. Not sure on which mod would work though

Even with the Pythons class 7 PD you'll probably want to fit efficient pulses to maximise firing time, rapid fire are effective but they generate a lot of heat so perhaps a mix of both, I generally fit 2 medium turrets to deal with the small targets and 3 x class 3 gimbaled for larger targets or 2 x class 3 gimballed and a class 3 efficient PA.

While lasers are my favorite loadout, I have a mix of beams and MCs on my Python. I no longer use my Python as my primary Haz Res ship, but I do want the option to take on any NPC that may interdict me while I'm running cargo missions. :)

So I run three C3 G5 efficient beams, and two C2 G5 efficient MCs (with corrosive) up front. All gimbaled.

My PP is G5 overcharged and my PD is G5 charge enhanced. I can pull the trigger on those beams for a long time with only 2.5 pips to weps. With 4 pips to weps I can go out for coffee while the capacitor is discharging. :) And I never overheat.

I finally purchased a python too. I saved up 220 million, A- rated everything then realised I was a few million space bucks short of buying military grade composite armour. Currently running grade 3 efficient beams on all the large hard points and grade 3 overcharged multicannons on the mediums. All fixed weapons. Jumps 26 Ly, and can boost to about 430. I hated it at first because I'm used to flying Cobras, Vultures and Sidewinders, and found it sluggish and unresponsive in comparison. Then I discovered that it was manoeuvrable enough to effectively fight small ships, even with fixed weapons. NPCs pretty much melt away under the firepower of this build and I can effectively shield tank against wings of NPCs with 4 pips to SYS. So I've decided to keep it for now.

I had similar feelings about the Python's maneuverability after jumping from a Vulture. But...after a couple of months hammering away in res sites I find myself flying sideways, upside down, and backwards so often that nothing gets behind me anymore. :)

My current loadout is 3 G5 efficient beams and two stock PAs on the medium hardpoints. All gimballed (hey, I'm lazy). I use the beams almost exclusively on smaller targets, and I have fun taking pot-shots at medium and large ships with the PAs after I use the beams to melt their shields away. It's all good fun. :)

I thought as well it was very sluggish, then I piloted my D rated Type-9 for the past week doing the community goal, now the Python feels down right nimble and feels like it is dancing during combat.

I get a similar feeling after spending hours killing everything in my Corvette. Now, I enjoy taking on those who interdict me in the Python while running missions, but for shear killing power I just take the Corvette to RES sites now. Much more efficient killing machine.

I felt somewhat similar after flying the Type-7. The Python (after engineering) feels much better. I don't think I'm that keen on getting any larger ships... maybe the raw firepower or jump range might sway me but for now, the Python is where I'm at.

Still fly the Cobra a lot though, old habits I guess.

Python Pulse NOT blue paintjob - you know it´s cyan

It´s pretty obvious that the so called paintjob is in fact cyan and should be renamed now that the correctly named engine exhaust is out. It misleads the buyers that want to get a blue theme done. Also PLEASE bring out a TRUE blue pulse paintjob !!! ... or just change the colors ;)

I just cashed in my Asp X, and my Cobra III, and bought a Python. Right now I only have a 13 ly jump range, but since I plan on staying in the bubble for a while and doing some data missions and general trading, that should be more than enough for now.

I can't believe I just bought a Python. It's the largest ship I've ever owned!

Have fun with your new ship. As you make a little more credits and can start tuning her with upgraded modules, you'll like her even more. :)

With multiple rolls at G3 DDT you can get beyond the "maximum" 20% I've at least two at 23% increase so you could get some worthwhile improvements without the pain of Palin ;), with shields the two approaches seem to be standard shields with reinforced mod + heavy duty boosters or bi-weave with thermal mod and resistance boosters, I made a few changes to booster and power plant that'll add a little range and better shields.

Or if you're not bothered by the additional mass G3 heavy duty on A0 boosters for a significantly stronger shield

I have G5 resistance augmented shields and G3 heavy duty A0 shield boosters. IIRC, I have a little over 1100Mj of shields. Yea, it (added mass) cuts into the jump range a bit, but I do like having the shield strength when taking on condas. :)

I don't know what I got on my G3 DDT roll and will check it out. I currently boost to about 440 if my memory works correctly. It has been plenty good so far.

My now fully upgraded and engineered Passenger/Missioner modded Python. Perhaps if i ever decide to grind the Prof Palin invite I will add G5 thrusters but I am happy enough with her as is.
You have so much surplus power, surely you can drop to a 6A PP (engineered), and gain some jump range?

I only run a 6A PP (and 6A Dist) on my Python, and get 31Ly.
