More JPEGs is the last thing I'm looking forward to. They need to show some actual gameplay for a change!

yeah, maybe.. but have you seen ATV 'casts with them playing games? It's not all that engaging. but I'm looking forward to the hurricane -- supposed to be a bruiser of a ship. I just hope they don't nerf it and turn it into a snub ship--- too many rumors circulating about that ship.

It's impossible to judge how any of the ships will perform in-game until they finish all the ones they've already flogged and more importantly finalize the flight model. Prior to that it's all just advertising, gouging the backers and theory-crafting (and pay2win obviously).

JPEG=Shiny

Gameplay=Dull

Citizens like shiny.[smile]

Yeah, it's a low-risk sale as well. Judging by how slowly big ships are being released compared to the fighters, smaller craft must be far easier for them to make. There was a Starfarer in March 2015 IIRC, and then Caterpillar lately, and the latter is "only" 66 meters.

So when the website gets nuked in favour of Spectrum do we know if there will still be a financial tracker in public view?

I don't think spectrum is going to nuke the web site... I think its seen more as a replacement for third parties like discord. But who knows. They've been pretty good about being very open about goals/funding/schedules lately, so I doubt they will pull the financial tracker behind a curtain.

but to more directly answer your question-- IF the website gets nuked (which I doubt), no, no one knows for sure whether finances will be as public as they have been, but I see no reason for that to change -- it's all been good news recently, why hide it.

It's almost become a liability for them at this point, so it wouldn't be surprising if they “accidentally” forgot to move it over… :D

Along with the almost hidden "Concern".

With citizens no longer being able to post new threads, that particular subforum has outlived its usefulness anyway. Might as well remove it completely, since I'm sure all of those things have been attended to by the diligent CIG staff. :p

I would imagine smaller ships are far, far easier to make. Remember in SC, you can get up and walk around your ship.. so there's a ton more to deal with than just a cockpit. The starfarer is a good example. Caterpillar, connnie, retaliator, are all larger ships that you can walk around/man turrents/man engineering stations (although not do a ton at those stations other than manage shields). the starfarer in particular has crawl spaces, a mess hall, crew dorm, and captain's quarters, and the only proper bridge in the game :) on the smaller size, but still ships that you can walk around in/man different stations, are the freelancer, warden (hoplight and vanguard), cutlass, and a few others I'm sure I'm missing.. so, no surprise that big ships take longer, but I think they've done a fairly even handed job of releasing them.

now all they need is a REASON for manning the big ships. I'm a huge fan of big ships, but other than org nights where we orchestrate fights between orgs using multicrewed ships and fighters, there are really is no reason to man a big ship.

Hence, a sale of easily made ship which won't lag the server like Starfarer to boost their mediocre sales in 2017.

They've been pretty good about being very open about goals/funding/schedules lately

The schedule, which they've ever so generously shared with backers, is little more than a rolling snapshot of whatever it is they claim to be working on right now. When's 3.0 going to be released? Or Squadron 42? Or SC 1.0? And if by funding you mean the funding graph, how have they been any more open about it "lately" than they ever have been? If they were being more open, someone wouldn't have felt it necessary to create a petition (worthless as it is) to compel them to be more so. But, if by "goals" you mean more theorycrafting about mechanics that are nowhere near being implemented in the live game, then sure, they've been doing a lot of that recently.

I think mediocre needs to be in perspective -- it's still alpha, I find it amazing that they can generate so much interest, and they haven't even hit beta yet. People really want this game, and for whatever reason are willing to put up with a ton of delays.

the online rags have been referring to it as a "blockbuster." hopfully the beta, whenever we get it, won't disappoint.

well, I've backed, and I have no complaints on how open they've been. They've been no more or less open on feature roll outs as other games, elite dangerous included.
