2.3 Beta Release News (27th Feb)

The only fault I can see here is in the poor choice of words from FD which sounded more definite than was ultimately achievable in this instance, directly resulting in literal interpretation by some of the intended audience. Obviously, FD weren't messing about and, while we could potentially have had some kind of generalised progress report, it's in their interests as well as ours that they get this beta started as soon as possible.

FD will release it as soon as FD can. My guess is that they've not stopped working on whatever it was which didn't go as planned today, and there's going to be more internal testing until they can be sure it'll work.

Until then, get on with playing 1.7/2.2, or otherwise occupy your time. 2.3B1 will be available when it's available. Tomorrow, I hope.

A double delay. Way to manage expectations Frontier.

How about just not saying anything rather than over promising and under delivering.

Do you mean stay silent like Firaxis and the lack of communication with Civ 6? Then FD would get hammered for failure to communicate, not respecting the playerbase & just taking players' money.

It seems FD can please some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, and none of the people all of the time.

Well done FD on the updates and letting us know what's happening. Silence is NOT golden.

To be honest, I am getting a bit annoyed with FD's style of communicating. On the one hand they claim the 'best keep your cards close to the chest and only give out info when you're sure', yet what little info we've got has basically been two incorrect dates for the first beta of a patch thats already six months late, something for which we never got an explanation. Or even an acknowledgment that FD is aware its 2017. I get development is hard to predict, but giving an honest statement would have been very simple and take little time. When during the day its starting to become obvious things are getting tough, just send out a tweet:"Working hard, may not make it today. More info will follow."

And you know what would be a nice gesture? Upload some of the patch notes already so we have an idea of whats actually in it, rather than announce we have to pay even more real money to put our name on our ship: a feature so basic it should have arrived for free two years ago.

How you figure its 6 months late? Het its a long time I may have forgotten!

Thank you for the update Ed. I think and hope that we prefer a finished and polished product over a rushed one. Please take as much time as you need!

We'll be here supporting you all the way.

Perhaps people could respond to things like this with reasonableness and understanding, instead of throwing out rubbish about "broken promises" and then start slagging off the devs. Most of you "giving advice" on how fdev approach stuff haven't got the first clue what is going on behind the scenes, how stuff is done, checked and delivered. Not a single clue, but still bang on like a bunch of entitled 5 year olds throwing temper tantrums at people who are probably more disappointed than you at not being able to release the beta when they hoped, and that's another thing... how many of your lack the comprehension to understand that words like "we aim to" and "we hope to deliver" aren't stone set deadlines, and that sometimes things don't go according to plan.

Cut the devs and the community team a break! They tell you what their aims are, and then 9 times out of ten hit those targets dead on. Bemoan the fact the news was released late in the afternoon all you want but you understand that that means they were trying everything they could to get the beta up for today. Whatever has happened has prevented that, but use your brains. Have some understanding, some empathy, maybe take a moment and think about who has the most invested here. You? No, the team at FDev, those folks who keep on smiling and working hard EVEN THOUGH some of you still drop your snide comments, beratements or are just outright abusive.

Knock it off, grow up and if you've got nothing constructive to add, step away from the keyboard and anything else than infest these boards with your behaviour.

Ed, thanks for letting us know, thank the folks who have worked so hard today to try and get the beta out. Your hard work IS appreciated and your approach to informing us of how things are going is, and continues to be, great. Respect to you all.

Here, here!

3rd try to post without being obnoxious to people that called in sick to play a beta, I'll just stay in my own lane instead.

FD, I hoped to try out the new amazing things you guys are working on, but I will just have to keep waiting a little longer. I know and you know it'll be worth it, so thanks for your efforts. I'll try to avoid obsessively spamming F5 between now and tomorrow looking for updates.

LOL, careful there, I'm in the business world of software development. Those suits, get thrown out before getting to court because they are levied by trolls who don't know what they are talking about.

We miss deadlines, we communicate with our customers and we take the hit to our image. Simple as that.

Anyone making promises or guarantees in software dev are looking to get raked over the coals. Frontier hasn't done any such thing.

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Monk again."

Shame, but continue working on it until it's stable enough for us to get our grubby little mits on it. To be perfectly honest, I'm having a blast in E:D at the moment, and the beta is only going to get in the way :p

P.S. Ignore the whiners.
