PvE Groups; are they just a fad?

My biggest problem with Mobius, I think he does a magnificent job btw, is if for whatever reason he needs to leave ED is how will Frontier react.
If they ignore the problem then would many who can no longer play in the group leave the game.
Or would another Commander take over the reins.
Or would finally FD decide that the possibility of losing perhaps large numbers of the player-base galvanize them into taking the reins over themselves, although I see this is the most unlikely prospect.
The pve groups are definitely not a fad as some of the groups have been running since almost the start of the game.

PVE OPEN should be in the game for sure, it's only logical.

Ah, my bad, the part I was thinking of was in a later post of yours.. apologies.

No worries. I would never change the content of a post, at least not without pointing to that fact via edit. I know others on this forum who do however, so I can understand your suspicion.

Probably because they cant handle the forum rules I mean being able to actually have a conversation with out devolving to a teenager would gain them a lot of ground here.

I'd say it has something to do with having tried to be grown ups and getting indignant yells of "griefor!!1!" every time PvP is mentioned or inferred. Whatever makes you feel better though, I guess.

Not gonna sit here and argue about it though...this is pretty off topic now. You can make a thread about it if you want, just let me know so I can bring popcorn.

Tbh mate most people stopped trying to be "appealing" ages ago.

The "grown up" Open/PvP advocates exist elsewhere now, namely Reddit. .

LOL having looked at some of the posts on reddit this has to be a contender for comedy post of the day!.

PS I totally support Open/PvP its a core option in the game for those who want it but grown up and reddit........ seriously?

I can't vouch for it all, but I've taken a gander over there and seen some pretty interesting stuff.

What initially appealed was actually a Mobius chap opening up about being kicked for starting a fight after another CMDR came into his instance to deliberately steal all kills he started, and the support that came with it.

Perhaps there are a few good eggs but I don't think the general "redditor immaturity" applies. In any case the vast majority of PvP/Open discussion cannot happen here in a cohesive manner. But again...off topic ;)

It's ridiculous that given the massive PVE groups, where Mobius broke the game it was so large, that FD still haven't given any tools or anything else to help with this. And it's up for "best evolving game" lol

It's not a fad. There's depth to the PvE game, where the PvP game is shallow and meaningless.

It can be fun to go head to head against a fellow human, but there's nothing to it. You either win, lose or draw. No marketable skill used, none gained.

At least in PvE, you can gain credits, rank, better ships/outfitting assist or destroy NPC major/minor factions, explore or just release some tension at a conflict zone. PvE will be here long after people give up on PvP.

For someone that's never PVP'd before, you seem to have an awful lot to say about it.

This apartheid treatment by Frontier against PvE players has to stop now! \o/
Mobius have just started the third private group, Mobius Asiapacific, because the second workaround group to the size limits is getting filled up.
CMDR's aren't joining these PvE groups because they hate the game, they just don't think the lack of balance in Open is worth it.
It is time for Frontier to realise that Open mode doesn't work. Time to create a native PvE mode, to allow all PvE players to play the multiplayer game Frontier want. Stop trying to push PvE players down, because we will just grow bigger... Hello... Is this mic on? *tap tap*. Okay, it seems like the mic is off. Let's all sing together to show our support for the oppressed majority! We shall overcome. We shall overcome!...

But, seriously, Frontier needs to stop pretending there is no problem. Until the balance in Open is fixed, offer an easily accessed PvE mode. It's really easy to implement. A few switches during login and you're there. The upcoming multi-crew addon is proof that they know how to do it. Multi-crew has a built-in insta-kicking "griefer protection".
Implement a PvE mode and name it Mobius in respect of the hardest working member of Elite Dangerous player community.

No its not a fad, as far as I know Mobius was running as a PVE PG, before I joined it over a year and a half ago, and others for that matter, its by far a short lived craze aka a fad.

No.

And since a post needs to be more than five characters I’ll add this sentence at the bottom of my reply, not because I intended to say anything more than simply “no”, but because I am forced to by the forum hard encoded rules, such as they are.

The total number of Mobius members is not representative of how many people play there.

I'm a member and I've only played in it once.

There are probably many more.

Unfortunately there's no other figure Mobius can give us, it's the only metric we have. Would be interesting to know what the 'active player in last x days' count was. I'm sure Mobius would like to know himself even.
I was under the impression that the Mobius group was pruned once or twice, the first time before the EU/US split and again sometime later, in an attempt to free up slots by removing inactive accounts. One of the criteria for who made the cut was frequency of use, and last time of use, which Frontier obtained from their logs. I wonder how you're still a member, unless you were very fortunate with the timing of your one use.

Maybe you can re-apply if removed? Or maybe I just misinterpreted how the cull was carried out. Either way I'm surprised that a player who has only used the group once is still on the list TBH. There's less than 4000 places left before it'll have to split again.

And that is my point exactly. The players are choosing to use private groups in a manor that FD didn't foresee. And hence my OP; should FD reconsider.

From the Kickstarter FAQ:

We have the concept of “groups”. They can be private groups just of your friends or open groups (that form part of the game) based on the play styles people prefer, and the rules in each can be different. Players will begin in the group “All” but can change groups at will, though it will be possible to be banned from groups due to antisocial behaviour, and you will only meet others in that group.

I guess the features they had in mind were flushed together with the offline mode.
