I must say, I'm pretty disappointed with the name plates they shower off so far,

If you don't like the paid plates don't buy them, FD will have to make better ones then although looking at the state of the ship kits and the amount of plain and lifeless paintjobs (amongst some nice ones) it seems people will buy anything for a little individuality.

Lol
This forum some times...

"Wouldn't it be cool to name ships?"
"I'd like to name my ships"
"I MUST name my ships!"
"OMG FD, why the hell can't I name my ships?"
"REALLY? I DEMAND SHIP NAMING!!"

*Gets ship naming feature*

"It's not good enough"

ROFL. True. But they have a point. It's the same old: after the hype, it's the usual lancklustre feature. (IMO.) :)

That’s pretty much exactly what I was expecting and hoping for. The name of my ship painted/stencilled on it. I have no problem with what I see in the pictures... I didn't actually expect a name 'plate' as such.

Considering I spent $7.00 on an awful sandwich that I bought at the gas station on the way to work, I don't mind paying a dollar for something like this that I'll actually get hours of use and a bit of fun out of.

I don't know what kind of tacky Counter-Strike esq, explosive diarrhoea skin people wanted stuck on the side of their ships, but I'm glad to know it's not that 

in the Patch-Notes:
Gah, how did I miss that? I even looked again because someone else specifically mentioned the patch notes. I actually remember speed-reading those words but hadn't put them into context. Thanks for the prod.

Everything stands, then. It's a cynical cash grab. :(

Waiting to see what happens.

I hope there's a good selection of nameplates thrown in.

After all we've paid for development of 2.3 already.

ED is not a free to play game. I worry that Frontier seem to think it is.

While they are indeed shady it doesn't mean they are not doing some things right.

Perhaps he wishes to play a space game and hopes ED will live up to it's potential rather than wimp out and WT is a good example of decals done right?

yeah, or maybe.. other players are spending a frikking fortune on the micro transactions in that game, so that those freebies exist for the tight of pocket. because someone is paying to keep the game going.. even if it isn't you!!

:D i wanted to laugh with you.. but then i realised, you are actually being serious!?

seriously? after all we have paid? you mean that £30 over a year ago? the development cycle may have extended, but we are still playing the game, still getting updates, and the development continues.. people be crazy!

The size of the text is too small and there should be at least three different fonts to choose from.

Not to mention the hours of play that the game has given for that $30.00. Over the years, I've spend much more on games that I've played A LOT less than I play Elite. A few bucks here and there, really, is nothing in this instance.

yeah yeah.. actually NO! 1st off.. a couple of dollars vs 100.. you think that is a comparison? if you want to look at something comparative, go check out star trek online or maybe swtor.. swtor currently have a 1H lightsaber model for sale in their store its 7600 cartel points.. basically a hilt with an effect, stats not included.. so do the maths -

as i said.. it has no stats on it.. so is a cosmetic item, just pixels on a stick to wave around.. and costing $60

Is that all, my niece plays games on my android tablet and keeps asking me to buy things but I refuse to put in my cc details. It's a kids game, some of them have no control of understanding of money, you can get hundreds of dragons, some of the dragons cost $99.99!

Hey sell me a pack of names, I will pay $10 or $20 for a pack of 5 or 10 names no problems!

I'm more disappointed to hear that we won't be getting an endowment slider. Looks like its back to Conan Exiles..

All the visual effect are pretty cheap in Elite dangerous. Ok they try to stick with reality but come on, inject some waouh effect in it, in all the VISUAL effect

I'll just leave this here...

They're charging 6€ for that.

I'm not worried that those plain text names are the be-all and end-all of ship naming.
What i find surprising is, they go to a game show to present this new feature, and instead of showing us the very best they can do, they air this ?
No variation of fonts, sizes, colors, placement, no actual name plate ?
From a presentation point of view, that's somewhat underwhelming ?

people be crazy!

Crazy how?

Folk have paid for 4 updates, they expect 4 updates of a good standard, that seems reasonable to me.

If the prices are too cheap then Frontier should charge more.

They can change business models going forward that's fine, if they want to go free to play that's fine also.

Sorry how much you've played is irrelevant, because simply put that's down to you.

Nobody begrudges buying cosmetics.

But when an update is PAID FOR already it should come with a decent range of cosmetics built in, especially so for something as fundamental as ship naming. Putting features behind paywalls? No. As I say ED isn't free to play, players have paid the development costs already.

Folk buy cosmetics and are happy to support, but it's a two way deal, don't be a **** about it and players won't begrudge buying cosmetics.

There is a balance to be had.
