I remember seeing this:
and thinking: "It'll never look like that."

Welcome CMDR's,
Yesterday while browsing Twitter I came across some images from Elite Cast featuring some artwork done by a member of the Ed Art Tools community. As I have not seen these anywhere on the forums I figured I would share them with you.
Just to be clear I had nothing to do with any of this, you can find out more via @EliteCast_ on Twitter.
These were made with the use of Unreal Engine 4.

Not outside the realm of possibility. Unreal Engine's lighting is great, but it's not on a pedestal way above other engines when it comes to lighting. If FD's lighting artists nail down the lighting for the day/night cycle with different types of atmospheres, the rest is just good texture work and the texture artists have proven themselves on rocky and ice planets.
^this^great concept art for sure but there is no way it will look like that, expect some kind of X-Plane 10 or FSX type of graphics for planets with an atmosphere which would be good enough anyways

i stll await for:
honestly new planet are not welcome... better have new gameplay first and after have another empty world to explore for no reason.
