More important to me is the oft-claimed poor quality of the storyline and charaters. Thats what made ME so great for me. And from what I have seen so far it is really not up to snuff. A lot of nonsensical dialogue, cheesy lines and bland or inane voice acting. Will wait a bit, no day1 purchase this time...
This. Unfortunately.
Story and character development is the reason I loved so many Bioware games, from Neverwinter Nights all the way to the Mass Effect trilogy and the first Dragon Age, which is IMHO in terms of storytelling, world and characters, Bioware's Magnun Opus. I loved every single minute of it.
The combat scenes in all these games were just small breaks between moments of advancing story. They're not bad, but not the reason I play those games. I played those games because the worlds were great, the lore was rich, the characters were deep and the stories were epic. Together with Witcher 2 and 3, those Bioware games were the games I cared the most about what was happening. I felt pulled into the world and the stories. They were more than just a mere game, they were interactive, rich worlds and stories. I wasn't merely playing a game, I felt I was there being part of an epic story and universe.
Dragon Age Inquisition, despite being one of the most beautiful (visually) games I ever played, already had a very bland and cliche story, some characters were still good, but already distant from the Bioware standard. Reading the reviews about cliche characters (and the lack of them, compared to other ME games) and sloppy and nonsensical dialogue in ME:A, I fear that there is more Electronic Arts than Bioware in this game.
