Mass Effect 4

Using brain and skills to advance, doesn't need hand-holding...

Like his Dark Souls review where he refused to plug a joypad in so branded it a terrible game. A game reviewer who won't use a joypad and this is the game's fault?

Uhmm... if he refused to plug a joypad into his playstation or x-box then indeed it is his own fault.
If, on the otherhand he was playing the game on PC, then keyboard and mouse should have been perfectly fine to control the game.
If that was not the case, then it was indeed the 'game's' fault.

Also, the new bad guy:

He looks adorable! Look at that tiny cute face! - that was my GF reaction when he appeared on the screen.

He looks cute, but I have no problem with a bad guy looking cute. In fact that might be a plus.
Bad guys always looking like bad guys is so boring.

What I do not like is that they apparently had to create new aliens that all follow the same old bipedal body design.
I think that is lazy, but it would not have put me off the game.

I don't mind characters not looking real at all.
I do mind them all looking like morons though.

I can perfectly enjoy a game with cartoony characters like in Borderlands, but if they would have been moving around like chimpanzees and pulled weird faces like they were idiots then I would have had a problem with that game. No such problems in Borderlands. Many such problems in Mass Effect Andromeda.
In its current state I consider the game unplayable, considering the money they ask for it.
I will buy it for a tenner, or less, or never.

To each their own, thus, creating a free market :)

Could be worse, could be a space game with no characters at all... and trucks driving around a circular track in the beginning :) And we both own that game!

So far it looks like the characters in ED are a heck of a lot better than those in ME:A. And ED is not known for its fleshed-out NPCs...

For anyone curious about performance, I've done a quick unedited framerate test at full 4k on the Ultra preset (with gtx1070 founders ed), its taken from the opening mission where you crash land on Pandora.. ahem.. I mean Habitat 7!

Given the grumbling going on in various comments threads over the game`s poor optimisation, these framerates weren't all that terrible, considering its running in native 4k, of course they aren't what id call playable, but its roughly a match for console level performance (fps counter is in the top right corner).
Needless to say, I`ll be playing at 1080p to ensure a locked 60 when the full game releases, but kicking the heck out of my pc by trying to run a demanding game at 4k is always fun :p

Its a reasonably short, spoiler free vid, although don't watch if you really really don't want to know anything about the game :)

*Video still processing, 1440p and 4k options should be available eventually!

I think that ignores that Dark Souls was a console game that was only brought to PC due to players petitioning.

You can sit there and complain a game is crap, or you plug a joypad in.

I mean if you're calling yourself a game reviewer, plugging a joypad in shouldn't be beyond you.

Because for many many players looking to make an informed purchase, it isn't beyond them.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Mack nailing it as usual? Dude just enjoys ragging on games, I am not sure he's actually capable of an in depth review.

Right now it seems difficult to differentiate a genuine and honest review from the usual anti-hype bandwagoning memeing you get with these things.

There's no way I'd trust Mack not go the latter, I mean that's what he does. Amusing in one way but not someone I'd trust for a decent objective critical opinion.

Maybe ME4 is indeed not the 95% rated metacritic game that everyone wanted/expected, maybe it's an 80%, but it's a bit hard to separate the signal from the noise atm.

Pretty much my take on it too.

I will play and form my own opinions. I feel like it's just trendy these days to hate on everything online and I don't want to let that influence me.

The one thing that I hope won't happen is that storywise it essentially becomes a copy of the last game where yeah you have this bad guy but he's really just a Vanguard for a much larger more devastating threat. Blah blah blah.

My hope for this is similar to say the original series of star trek. Yeah there are bad guys but they were different most weeks. I'd much rather they tell a story of exploration and discovery than some massive story arch that's really been done over and over and over.

Or perhaps his Horizons 2.0 review, where he's seems completely oblivious to the fact that Horizons consists of 5 updates, and as a result spends the whole review panning the update and focusing on calling Horizons a rip off.

Quality reviewing right there.

Dark Souls is an incredible game, if I'd have listened to him I'd have missed arguably one of the best games of this/last generation.

And Horizons (also ED) have been probably the best value for money game purchases I have ever made in my life.

Yes like you say it is just my opinion, but it is an opinion formed from watching his reviews.

I understand the appeal though, he makes amusing videos. I just wouldn't put much credence in what he says if I'm looking for an objective game review.

Yeah I unsubbed from Mack a while back. He seems more intent on screaming like a muppet than actually providing useful feedback.

My biggest complaint is that I'm enjoying some red wine and want to play ME. But, I cannot because my 10 hours are up :-(
See here is a game review I can relate to!

I loved the other ME games, despite negative reviews, and I know I am going to love this one :D
I did not play the trial, but the game is preloaded.

ED, I am sorry, but we are going to have a break for a little while. Don't worry though, I will be back ;)

I'm downloading the trial now. I liked the original, and overall was satisfied with the trilogy, even if the diversion from the original formula really really annoyed me.

after around a day, MEA has finally finished pre-loading. for better or worse, not long now...

Anyone preorder the RC Nomad? It looks pretty cool. Must put down the wine, before I do something not super smart :)

If you do get it, let me know about the build quality. My son might like it.
