Mass Effect 4

Now youre taking my post a bit out of context :p Nowhere did I imply having an opinion means buying the game. You can form an opinion through streamers, multiple reviewers and of course playing a trial. I was referring to very special case here where one negative review got posted as the first publicly available and suddenly half of the internet jumps on it like parrots. Cant be taken serious.
The other half does the same thing just the other way around ^^

Yeah that what I ment with black & white views. Its no good.
Its just normal, people have certain expectations on such games with big price and big name and all. And I mean Mass Effect is a big name, so expections are getting even higher, which in the End isn't a bad thing, devs should take it as a compliment. But of course, quality needs to be top notch then, you worked your way up then you gotta deliver or you fall.

Which all in all is good, keeps things in check.

More or less finished the 10 hour trial and it comes into its own once you get to the more open areas of the game.
Definitely going to pick it up on release day.

My only 2 'major' problems at this point are the story, which seems to lack real urgency and danger so far (but, to be fair its hardly gotten started) and the menu/UI system feels very unintuitive and outdated. Only being able to have 3 skills or biotics active at one time is a massive annoyance as well.

What keep things in check are well written and thought out reviews. Polarizing content and articles are just ment to polarize and quickly dissolve into something else then helping a reader making a good buying decision. Thats what also keeps the industry from moving forward imo as everyone is just trying to pick a side instead of discussing the game itself on an objective matter.

I don't see why the rps piece is polarizing, he didn't like it much, explained why, all good in my book. Just because he doesn't like it doesn't mean what he says is wrong. I mean I love the witcher 3, which he didn't like very much and theres nothing wrong with that.

What helps to make a good buying decisions is having reviews that disagree with each other. The good, the bad and the ugly.

If it's as bad as he says it isn't really all that surprising. It's just another example of a once great game series turning crap. Same happened to Thief, Mafia and more recently Ghost recon.

I respect his opinion, but I'll wait and see what other reviews say. It's probably going to be added to the "wait for a sale" list

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
I get the feeling that some reviewers expect this game to be the Second Coming of RPGs or something. I have not played it yet so I cannot comment personally, but that's my impression from all the "I'm a bit disappointed " articles out there. Of course it's entirely possible it will fail to impress me as well but I can't help but feel some people are expecting more than a computer game.

That said I keep reading these impression articles, lol. :)

I did watch quite a bit of a long let's play to get a better feel for the game and it looked pretty much like I'd expect. From what I saw it was ticking all the right Mass Effect Boxes anyway. I suppose that is either a good thing or a disappointment depending on one's perspective.

That's the problem with hype. It builds expectations to ridiculous levels and when those expectations are not met you can't help but be disappointed.

The ultimate review will be when Yahtzees' Zero Punctuation covers it.

All other reviewers pale in comparison.

In terms of negative thought on this I think most reviewers are pretty much saying these same things. 1. They haven't trodden far from the path of safety for story or setting.

2. They brought back crappy features like that planet scanning mechanic but it even more annoying

3. They removed liked features such as the power wheel for squad mates.

4. The odd animations.

The levels at which those annoying people will differ from person to person. But those seem to be the common thoughts from the media sites.

More important to me is the oft-claimed poor quality of the storyline and charaters. Thats what made ME so great for me. And from what I have seen so far it is really not up to snuff. A lot of nonsensical dialogue, cheesy lines and bland or inane voice acting. Will wait a bit, no day1 purchase this time...

This. Unfortunately.

Story and character development is the reason I loved so many Bioware games, from Neverwinter Nights all the way to the Mass Effect trilogy and the first Dragon Age, which is IMHO in terms of storytelling, world and characters, Bioware's Magnun Opus. I loved every single minute of it.

The combat scenes in all these games were just small breaks between moments of advancing story. They're not bad, but not the reason I play those games. I played those games because the worlds were great, the lore was rich, the characters were deep and the stories were epic. Together with Witcher 2 and 3, those Bioware games were the games I cared the most about what was happening. I felt pulled into the world and the stories. They were more than just a mere game, they were interactive, rich worlds and stories. I wasn't merely playing a game, I felt I was there being part of an epic story and universe.

Dragon Age Inquisition, despite being one of the most beautiful (visually) games I ever played, already had a very bland and cliche story, some characters were still good, but already distant from the Bioware standard. Reading the reviews about cliche characters (and the lack of them, compared to other ME games) and sloppy and nonsensical dialogue in ME:A, I fear that there is more Electronic Arts than Bioware in this game.

Mack enjoyed his seven hours of preview gameplay.

For all the wrong reasons. LOL

[haha][haha][haha][haha][haha] I really enjoy his rants!
btw - the character animations and facial expressions are a mess, I have no idea what happened here but they are so weird its hilarious. Kind of immersion breaking.
I also noticed few NPC`s that looks... unfinished or like a "happy accident" from character creator. Massive downgrade from DA Inquisition or even ME 2/3...

I am a huge fan of the Mass Effect series as it has been my substitute for the completely failing StarWars gaming franchise for years.
I have played the previous ME games three times each. That is how much I enjoyed them.

I am really shocked at the shoddy facial and body animations and the bad dialogue I have seen in MEA.
I wonder what the hell has gone wrong with this game.
I can't comment on the sub par story line, as I would have to experience that for myself to be able to judge it.

This game is definitely removed from my priority buy list for now.
I will wait and see if things get better after a few patches.
Or I will buy it for a tenner in a few years.
Not spending my money on this as it is now.

I am very disappointed.

Probably a lot to do with a change of engine, from UE to Frostbite.

That being said, the previous games were hardly shining examples of facial animation, even ME:3 wasn't a patch on the face tech in half life 2.

That might be true, but this one is much, much, MUCH worse than that. ME1 looked much better, 10 years... that is TEN YEARS ago.
And the walking animations and body postures.... I don't know what to say... I just can't play a game that looks so incredibly awful.

But why? The frostbite engine is capable of beautiful facial and body animations.
It is like Bioware hired a chimpanzee to do the animations.
I even believe that a chimpanzee might have done a better job.
