ED Launcher Loading times

Hey guys, we have now seen other reports of the issue persisting with launcher version 0.4.5912.0. I should add that version 0.4.5912.0 has not been made a mandatory update and we expect 0.4.5499.0 to also work as normal.

We are trying to establish if the issue is occurring server-side or locally. The most logical cause of the issue is some kind of communication lag between the launcher and the server. Almost everything the launcher does at start is network dependent (logging user in, checking product availability, fetching up-to-date product list, loading web data for the UI, GalNet news etc). Based on the client logs I have seen so far these actions complete without errors, but everything seems to take a lot longer than usual. We have not been able to identify a root cause server-side, and we have not seen enough client-side information to draw conclusions. Could you please help us by performing some basic troubleshooting on your end:

1. Restart your router
2. Check if disabling your antivirus software affects the issue

It may also help to know what kind of antivirus software you are using, if you're happy to post it here, please let us know.

Thanks!
Next version will probably nail it. [yesnod]

I too, started having this issue a month ago, or so, and it persists.

Sometimes when the launcher loads, it doesn't seem to realize that I have Horizons (orange instead of blue, and the button says Log In instead of Play). I assumed this was an issue with my credentials failing to go from Steam to Frontier.

Sometimes, it appears to do nothing, and Task Manager shows memory allocated for ED, but the CPU is at zero on that process.

Sometimes, I get the white launcher.

Sometimes, I get an error that says something about unable to sync time between network and server (don't remember the exact wording).

I hope this is temporary, and gets cleared up soon. Not because of the annoyance for me, but because I don't want people turned off from the game because they think it doesn't work. When my brother started playing, he had an issue (delay) between Steam and Frontier being on the same page with his account, and Horizons purchase. Lots of errors, didn't recognize password, asked him to update it, didn't recognize that one, etc.

Yes, to all of these. PC + Win10.

An new one for me this week was (like you have said) a return to the Orange theme on the Launcher Screen (I've been on Horizon Blue since that came out) but also an invitation to "Purchase" the game.

Strange.

OK thanks Kosmos. I've just made an exception to the launcher executable in my AV software, which is AVG Free. I'm pretty certain the problem started at the rollout of 2.3 Beta, however that might impact the cause.

Yesterday I updated the launcher to 0.4.5912.0 from 0.4.5499.0. So far I have not any repeats but not much chance to test yet.

EDIT: Just checking through the client log to see if there's any delays between the actions. Happy to send a copy on? Just noticed it has a record of my first launch, 25th November 2014 :D

Exactly this. My post to Support with time sync error: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/334843-Launcher-server-instability-since-2-3-Beta-launch?p=5241881&viewfull=1#post5241881

My copy is not Steam-linked so I think it's client-server lag for whatever reason.

I don't know if anyone else has found that the launcher seems now to be starting up promptly with none of the previous delays and hang-ups {touch wood} - anyone else noticed this improvement since yesterday morning? Or are people still having issues and I have just fallen lucky for two days in a row? ;)

Apparently this thing is complicated. I have been in contact with Support, and they are very, very helpful. But it seems as the problem is not persistent. I have lived with lag and delays now for 6 days, where everything involving the servers would induce a 15 -30 second delay.
Last night I had a game session, where everything worked completely as it used to. :S
And today : Lag and waiting, and waiting and waiting. And lag.

Anyway Support knows about it and it has priority. (From mail)
Kudo's again to Support.

Cheers Cmdr's

Had a message from support (I hope they don't mind me quoting them)...

"I'm really pleased to hear that the launcher is now behaving as expected. We had actually tracked down an issue on our end with the help of the information provided by yourself and a handful of other commanders who were experiencing this issue.

So fingers crossed things stay this way! "

Once again support does a great job, let's hope that the fix stays fixed. ;)
