THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Looks to my software developer's eye that you've found an edge case in the algorithm which calculates off-surface gravity from the surface value.
What does the system map give the gravity as?

1.82

EDIT: seems the threshold varies. 22 000 m over the large crater. 5000 m over the average. No threshold over flatland.
Could be some gravity tide effect thing. If so, congrats FD. Very realistic model.
One crashed 'I don't know what' with Fed worth intel, 2 SRVs and a couple of skimmers. All crashed. Usual parked System Defence Cobra. Nothing interesting here.
(Issues with imgur. Every upload from Nvidia failing. Sh**.)

Excuse me!
You get rep from me.
He got rep from you.
I got the square root of sweet Adams.

I don't consider this to be even AT ALL!

<Edit>
I'm especially cranky because I'm at 496 rep and I want to see if I get another green light at 500

So apparently the best way to get Rep is to complain about not getting rep [big grin]

Great, I see that it happened.

I'm on 672 & still waiting for my soup mug to arrive

Yeah, I noticed I didn't get another once I reached 600 (like I had at other increments). When it didn't, I kind of expected it would change again at 650 (seeing as that's where the mouse-over text changes again), but at 668 now and still waiting.

Attempt to retrace the Formidine Rift Beta/Gamma Expeditions. Day 1.
.
Reviewing the logs of these expeditions and the distance to the Heart and Soul Nebulae from the Abandoned Settlements, I estimate that they were travelling about 800 LY every 13 days. Whilst using stripped-down, exploration-fitted Anacondas, they were nevertheless carrying Sidewinders and, on the outward leg, were full of cargo. My Python's jump range is 33LY, so I hope that this will be enough to follow in their footsteps.
.
Step 1.
My estimate of their approximate position by the time of their 3rd log message (dated 18th Sept) was MYOIDEE ZS-X C28-1. This system stood out as being somewhat detached from the adjacent systems and my plot to it arced around the edge of this gap very noticeably. It is 29.93 LY from the nearest system. To my disappointment, the system contained only the star, nothing more (quite common for a G type star in a mass code C system). The systems are almost all tagged up to here and although I encountered no Earth-like or Ammonia Worlds, there are expected numbers of other life-bearing worlds and the region is slightly rich in terraformables, if anything. I encountered one signal source in MYOIDEE sector but it appeared during my FSD countdown phase so I could not stop and investigate.
Step 2.
My estimate of the expeditions' location by the time of their 4th log message (dated 1st October) was MYOIDEAU VI-K D8-3. This system has multiple stars and small planets and a pristine metallic asteroid belt cluster around the primary star. I scanned and dropped into a belt cluster but encountered nothing unusual. This was only the second belt cluster I visited today, the other being in MYOIDEE sector, but I suspect I am not close to 'it' yet, even if the 'it' is denoted by heat signatures within a certain region of space, which is a possibility I am investigating during this expedition.
Next comes the harder task of finding a route to a possible location of the expeditions' 5th log message, where I hope to find some sign of the Beta expedition, and I plan to spend a little more time near to there looking for Earth-like Worlds, assuming that I can find a way across. I think that this is the 'crossing the Rift' part and that I am still on the near side of it. I have plenty of J1 boosts, if needed, and 2 SRVs to get more materials but I would prefer to save my resources until I need them.
.
Fly safe!

Galactic News: Message Received from Col 70 Sector

08 APR 3303

A weak signal from the Col 70 Sector has been detected by listening posts in both Federal and Imperial space.

The message is incomplete, but it appears to pertain to some kind of rally point. Meanwhile, Federal and Imperial intelligence services have confirmed that thousands of covert and coded messages have recently been transmitted in the vicinity of the Col 70 Sector.

"Something is going out on out there," said an unidentified member of the Imperial intelligence community. "We think it could be...her."

A bounty has been issued for Commanders Salomé, Tsu Annabelle Singh and Raan Corsen, but with all three fugitives still at large, the Empire has increased the bounties to five million for Salomé and two million apiece for Singh and Corsen. An Imperial spokesperson reiterated that pilots should not attempt to communicate with these individuals, and should shoot on sight.

Imperial intelligence services have also placed a bounty on one Commander Yuri Nakamura, referred to as 'Conformist Oboe XX' in an intelligence briefing given to the media. A two-million-credit bounty has been placed on Commander Nakamura.

<looks at distance to Col 70 from OOB AIRG, quielty says "frak it">

Why do they always start dropping the interesting stuff when I'm 8kly away? Now I have to sell at Mic, instead of Caelottixa, again....

I'd guess 750.

I've spent the last week grinding Federation rank trying to get into a FAS. Now I find out that I should have been grinding Forum rank instead. Even the non-game part of this game is a grind :)

At least the bounties have been raised to a more respectable level.

Don't look at me like that! I'm not outfitting this Kill Warrant Scanner to chase Salome ... I was going to do some local bounty hunting in my home system. Honest.

I'm on xbox, but certainly will have my ship open for crew. Although I will be in a combat ready ship, I wont have turrets or SLF so my crew seat will be for commanders wishing to observe events only. I just dont have a multi-crew combat ship yet unfortunately, building one is on my to-do list though.

I remember this too. I can help by saying that I didn't start playing properly or visiting the forums until AFTER the first barnacle was discovered. So the reports had to be around then. If I remember correctly it was around the time that people were reporting strange noises from Merope 5C. I think Jorki (forgive me if I'm mistaken) was pushing for the crater to be searched properly on Merope 5C, and there were reports from others that the area had strange gravitational effects and noises. It was brushed off as a bug at the time I believe.

I also had a strange situation around the same time at (once again I think) Palins base and other areas where I dropped like a stone without knowing why, but thought it just a bug as well I may have even filed a bug report about it, never thought to check for an increase of gravity. Maybe I have footage still, will have a look through my things as well as having a browse through the Canon thread where I first joined the discussion.

Fancy hooking up on the 29th

This has probably been pointed out before, as most things have, but just in case... has anyone noticed that when you zoom right out on the gal map, the Outer Arm seems to come to a rather abrupt end at the OOB AIRG section, which is very much on the RR line?

Of course on a much closer in scale it appears to carry on and extend considerably further round trailward, it is only when viewed from great range that it appears to abruptly become significantly more sparse and you can see where the star density drops off.

I went out that way so I could turn back in behind the rift. I went right out to the outer edge.

I tried going back to Eafots from the other side but you can't get over the rift.

So I went the other way back, I'm still believing that somewhere in the middle of the rift is something. I think it's at the end of a lot of jumping and involves twisting and turning high and low and there is only one route to get there at 27 ly.

You can obviously do it at a higher jump range but at a higher jump range you have more variables.

When I'm in the rift I stick to 25-29 ly jumps

As some of you may know, I'm not Salome's biggest fan, but even I credit her with better communication skills than Lassie.

Lol.

I've messaged Drew about something will see how he responds and then I'll post what I was going to post but I dot want to ruin things.

Submitted, yes. It doesn't look like it will be published though.

What sort of codeword is "Conformist Oboe XX"?? Every spy thriller I've ever seen or read has codewords more readable than this. It doesn't exactly trip lightly off the tongue. So I guess it may be a clue, but I have currently no ideas on it.

My home town has a gravitational anomaly, if I drive from one side to the other I weigh 1.5g more.

That's the beer & burger!

While I'm not sure about the meaning of Conformist Oboe XX there is a Reddit post by a CMDR Yuri Nakamura here: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteOne/comments/53l5dc/a_holofaq_for_cmdr_nicholai_nakamura/

The Reddit post seems to indicate that Yuri is dead and takes the form of a Holofac recording for Yuri's brother, Nicholai. What is interesting to me is that the post was made on the Elite: Dangerous XBox subreddit. I've seen posts where Drew has teased that there will be something on the 29th for XBox players to interact with. Maybe that something is Yuri?

On the subject of Premonition and the CG on the 29th here is my opinion or musings

I think Drews book will start after the events of reclemation and will involve a dream or something similar regarding her future.

The middle of the book will include what she has been up to including all the events we know about and lots we don't ( politics, relationships, inner turmoil etc ).

There will be a large psychologicall tug of war throughout.

This will then culminate in the outcome of the 29th where Drew will have cleverly written different starts and ends depending on the outcome.

As far as the rift mystery is concerned there will be added clues and Salome will reveal things prior to the outcome of her Premonition ( that will be decided on the 29th )

This will still leave the rift mystery open but may or may not leave Salomes Influence on this open ( depending on the in game events )

Drew will however have a side character that will continue with the mystery in either event of the outcome.

Either way whatever happens on the 29th the rift will still be there to be solved and while we will get extra clues the 29th will be about Salomes story and not the rift. "

I suspect it is an xbox commander, when i read it i thought Conformist Oboe sounds like a default gamer tag when you first start an account on Xbox haha. Conformist Oboe XX is too long for a gamer tag though, and other variations i have tried produce nothing. Their are people with the gamertags Yuki, Nakamura and a Yuki Nakamura on Xbox so not sure which (if any) is the correct one.
