Budget graphics card?

Again, thanks for your input everyone.

A shiny new 1050 is winging its way to me as we speak.

Cool, have fun! My 750ti can handle 1080p with most settings to ultra just fine, and your 1050 is better. Should be perfect!

Let us know how it goes!

I'm in need of a GPU upgrade, but I'm having trouble deciding which one, and I'd like some feedback on frame per second from the nVidia GTX 1050 (and Ti versions), at 1080p, to compare to my current graphics card (AMD HD 6870).
I'm also looking at the AMD RX 470 too, which should drop in price for the 570 release. Hopefully.

I basically won't upgrade if it's not atleast twice as good. :p
My old card is surprisingly capable for its age. But i forget what settings I'm using. But it's mostly smooth. :)

Sorry made, 3% shy of twice as good. :p

FWIW: my 750ti runs at 1.25SS, planetary ultra, most things at max except ambient occlusion (off). Its 60FPS in SC, close to 60 in the rings, and around 30FPS in stations/on planets. The 1050 should vastly outperform it. If you go for 1080p, the 1050 will do great.

Not sure what your budget is, but this might work for you: https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Graphics-Cards/MSI-NVIDIA-960-Gaming-Graphics/B00NY23VY8?th=1
You might be able to find a better price elsewhere, but I dunno much about shopping in the UK, other than "chips" are "fries" and "crisps" are "chips", and money is "pounds" and weight is "stones", and stones weigh kilos - and that's why we have no idea what y'all are talking about ;-)

Third post, his budget is less than half that. He already ordered a 1050, so all is good.

But we do drive on the right side of the road, and we don't date things backwards.

:D

The real advice from a gamer...never go cheap with the graphics card. If you are in a budget always aim for mid range GPU's with at least 3/4GB of vRAM no less than that (for 1080p gaming).

I would never go below mid/high range but for your wife I bet she won't play games that much but if she is only going to play Elite at least make the game look very good, not "just good".

Nvidia GTX1050Ti is your best option at the moment...the regular 1050 non Ti is 31% less powerful so don't go for that even if you can save 30€. (120/130€ non Ti and Ti for 150/180€)

I always buy my stuff in this web site but it is from Spain and I put it to you just as a reference:

1st option:

-MSI GTX1050Ti OC 4GB for 159€:
https://www.pccomponentes.com/msi-geforce--gtx-1050ti-4gt-oc-4gb-gddr5

Then there is this promotion in this web site for an EVGA (top quality) GPU's alone with Asus.

-EVGA GeForce GTX1050Ti SSC Gaming ACX 3.0 4GB 159€ (for the same price I'll go fot this one...if you can find one in Amazon or any local store for the same price go for it):
https://www.pccomponentes.com/evga-geforce-gtx-1050ti-ssc-gaming-acx-30-4gb-gddr5

Then there is the Asus Strix but it goes up to 179€ and all the rest as Gigabyte, etc.

AMD counterpart is the AMD RX470 4GB which is slightly faster (around 20%) but I can't find one below 190€. RX460 is cheaper but again 30€ slower than 1050Ti.

With my GTX970 (2 year old card) the game runs like a dream (minimum 80FPS in stations and planets, and in open space above 150FPS up to 200+ depending the zone) and looks beautiful. It was a 360€ GPU of course. :p

With that 1050Ti you are going to be more or less around 35/40% less performance that a GTX970 but sure playing with high settings at 60FPS without issues. I bet that CPU is an i5 2500 probably which is still a good CPU and will work just fine with a 1050Ti.

PS: That EN710 you have, is a GPU designed for multimedia content such as movies...no gaming. It can play games but it doesn't have the horsepower to run them properly, that's why you have stuttering and slowdowns with it. Remember don't go cheap..if you can get it now, save some more money for next month and get it. ;)

Leave this chart here to compare performance summary:
