thanks FD, DB.. thanks a lot

OP, I think your face is tired... I suggest you have a nap. And then wake up, reread what you wrote, and re-evaluate your understanding of what Braben said.

You'll probably realise your error and sigh. Just let us know when you do :D

Nope, I have a LEP, and I just had to pay for nameplate and registration for my ships..

Same.
So, can someone clarify what's going on with the pay model? What future content will the LTP cover that is not covered by a horizons pass?

Lifetime Pass never covered cosmetics, why would people think it would suddenly do that? You'll still get game updates, you know 2.4, 3.0, 4.0 and any other numbers FD release.

Yeah to clarify, I'm not bothered by sale of cosmetics. What I am curious about is what content LTP will cover that is not going to be freely included in the future.

Is this true?

just a braven rumor for now :)

The season pass makes more sense because everyone is either on the same page or not (Horizons... not Horizons) But with these micropatches suggested above would mean the player base is separated by many different game iterations.

yes, indeed. however long term players will have all the content regardless (some of them even several times! :D). casual players often won't but don't engage that much in cooperative play anyway, and anyway won't care: they always can buy some interesting feature for roughly the same as a paintjob, that could work out even in casual multiplayer. the game is built mostly from isolated features anyway: you could for example take away wings, pp or engineers and the game still works and has meaning. i personally would prefer a more integrated design, but this approach has the clear advantage of making such a model manageable. not by coincidence, methinks.

Unless Fdev are thinking of pricing out game functions like Microtransations.
Space leggs..... $6.99
Exploration play pack..... $7.99
Thargoid story arch.....$10.99
This and a subscription model makes my skin crawl.

otoh, the cosmetic and vanity model is ridiculously profitable ... given you attract enough players. the shop is just taking off so in the end, with enough mass, they could as well be giving away the seasons for free to everyone. :)

Thank you for bringing sense into this thread... Yes, I would rather pay like this. Say I didn't want a feature added, but want all the others, I could save money by buying the features I want and not the ones I don't.
I wish this was retroactive. I'd be due a nice little refund for Wings, Powerplay, Arena*, Multicrew...

[SUP]* to be fair I probably played early CQC enough to justify the investment. The others, not so much.[/SUP]

Steve,

Think you may have misjudged this one a little with a mahousive assumption.

Suggest 'wait and see' before moaning about what may never be.

What people read into things always amazes me. He did not say the lifetime pass is over. All he said is prehaps they would move from charging 35 quid for a new season to maybe a different pricing strategy.

It means that 3.0 will probably be a full expansion with no point updates. We will have to wait until the whole of 3.0 is completed in house and released as one massive expansion.

No more point updates, but lifetime expansion owners should still get it, they paid for all expansions, regardless of how they are marketed or released.

Likeliest scenario: Multiple paid patches with an option of a season pass.

Obviously that the lifetime pass is forever (until the end of the development of the game)

Or until you die ... that's what I take "lifetime" expansion pass to be?

Though the Commander can live on I suppose as long as you leave your password to a relative in your Will?

(I however plan to live forever!)

Sure we'll keep it, but its soon utterly pointless.

dont worry. so long as ED gets updates, what ever the marketing off them, we will get them all for free.

Of course if your concern is that this is the death knell of the game and it is going down the swanny well yeah you get the shaft, but if that was the case it will happen regardless.

imo we are all fine........... for now.

Just reading the AMA by DB, this gets me. About the next season expansion:- "Hi Golgot. Firstly on the season plan; I don't think people liked having to pay for multiple updates in one go, so that is something we are going to move away from."

So lifetime pass owners got the shaft. Way to go FD, the amount you annoy your original kickstarters never fails to amaze me. *sigh*

Err i think it means instead of buying the Horizons as a pack you'd have 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 all as separate purchasable models

Lifetime passes are still valid

It depends if future updates fall under the category of expansion or not. If future updates are expansions then certain KS backers of 80 GBP or more should get them. If they are termed paid minor updates but not significant enough for expansions then perhaps not. But I am betting we will get them for free. We will see and if not, a big can of complaints of course.

KS page quotes:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1461411552/elite-dangerous

" Pledge £80 or more

Digital Download Pack. This includes a single digital download of the game, and any expansions, and all the other rewards above except those requiring physical delivery."

and

"+£80 Have an additional Digital Download Pack. This is effectively the same as an additional £80 pledge tier and includes any future expansions (Delivery March 2014)"

and

"The £80 pledge tier and higher now also includes free expansions for Elite: Dangerous! For more information on likely expansions check the Development Plan video further down the page."

and

"Really big expansions are likely to be paid for while we also intend for some smaller free updates. If you have pledged to to £80 tier or above you will receive all expansions for free."
