There is NOTHING wrong with FD implementing a profanity filter on cmdr names or ship names.
There is EVERYTHING wrong with one as stupidly broken and oversensitive as this where you cannot use normal inoffensive words without the filter having a fit of the vapors because some part of the word might, by an extreme stretch of the imagination, be profanity. And it isn't even consistent because it CAN'T be. English is an ancient language riddled with obscure idiom, synonyms and innuendos, some of which does indeed have its origin in blasphemy, obscenity and prejudice. Some of them still carry those connotations and are reasonable candidates for inclusion, others have long-since lost any taint of offensiveness and are not. Still others have acquired that whiff of opprobrium relatively recently. Many are short and consist of letter sequences that can appear as parts of other words. The current state of the profanity filter(s) both here on the forums and where it comes to ship names is beyond even Bowdlerisation. (look it up)
Newsflash, Frontier: Although we are privileged to be living during the rule of the longest-reigning monarch in English history, that sobriquet no longer applies to Victoria!
Since the very nature of the language precludes total accuracy, I appreciate you're in an awkward position here because computers are stupid like that. However, this is STUPID. Make it optional. Let us take the responsibility of not outfitting our ships with a "7A fainting couch" if we so choose.

Oh the irony.. this from the poster employing a crude term for female genitalia that just happens to not be on the forum filters list.

I'm glad censorship is on to prevent seeing people with their "hilarious" ship names
Shock humour is boring humour
A lot of gamers seem to think that its ok to be in games, thats why we cant have nice things like uncensored ship names
