#support3rdparty - Why we temporarily shut down our sites.

I probably just have trouble to follow why the need for all the extra attention, I get wanting more info thats very understandable but such info can just be put in the News or Update section on the Forum and done. Lack of info sure is general problem.

I think the problem is that they were expecting to have a communication channel with FD. FD appeared to agree to speak to them in various ways but then remained silent.

The website developers had high expectations of FD.

FD probably weren't honest enough with the website developers about how much time they could put into it.

Miscommunication is the cause of everything.

And we loos access to a very good RP community. I treat Inara as my second home when I play E:D! Might consider not logging in at all as long as its down.
Please FD, work closer with them and others, they provide extremely useful tools to all of us!

Hi everyone. Just letting you know we've seen the thread. Please be patient while we bring this to the attention of the developers.

Just quickly want to mention that we always try to communicate as openly and effectively with our community as possible, and we appreciate all the hard work that goes in to the maintenance of these useful sites and tools.

I have also sent a PM to the OP, too :)

Thanks for your patience everyone!

Thanx Edward, for your quick response!

No offense Edward, but after 3 years of somewhat one-sided conversations, we have been shown to be patient.

You guys all do such a great job, and in your own time i bet. I hope FD can do something to rectify this situation.

While I fully support FD supporting third party apps and whatnots as much as possible, and the third party sites provide very valuable services (of which i use several), I cannot support this action.

This is basically trying to hold the devs to ransom. As a dev i would not negotiate with people under such conditions.

I understand you must have frustrations at times, but right now is not the time to escalate this. We are still in the period after a major patch with some major issues still outstanding. When the dust settles, by all means, push, but not like this.

+ Rep. I agree totally. Also the timing of the strike happening just before a major in-game event is a bit of a kick in the teeth to the very people who generate those 'millions' of hits to your sites. Personally I don't make use of any of the sites you have taken off line so there will be no effect for me, but to many I can see this will be a pain in the butt. Just like every other strike in the world the only people you cause an issue for are those who use your service. Frontier have got this far and will no doubt carry on regardless with producing content which could be expanded upon by third parties other than yourselves or not at all. Don't think that everyone uses your tools either or that they are essential to play the game, they are not.

In fact, I think FD, just like a lot of us, have become dependent on the existence of these tools too. It takes the pressure off of them to supply this sort of thing in-game. So it really is in their interest to engage with the 3rd party community. It would take a lot less effort on their part than having to put all this stuff in the game itself.

The unvarnished truth, right there.

All of the effort put in by 3rd party devs has directly reduced FD's cost base. The third-party tooling should be included in-game. Groups, guilds, inventories, blueprint management, build management, route histories - all of these things are made usable by 3rd party tooling.

Almost NONE of Season 2 would be manageable without some sort of 3rd party tool, be it Inara, EDDB, Microsoft Excel, or even Office World. Materials, engineers, the Alien Ruins, all depended upon out-of-game communications that are underpinned by commanders running EDMC (or some equivalent) and entering data into sites manually.

What I don't understand is why FD deleted the data it did from the API. There has been no response on the bug report thread beyond the holding reply "we're looking into it". We are left wondering whether it was a spiteful move to annoy players, or whether is was a giant SNAFU by one or more of the dev team. Either way, FD's lack of response on the matter demonstrates that there is an aspect of this to which the company does not wish to admit.

Anyone complaining about FDev is quite welcome to write their own Space Simulation/MMO/Sandbox/Procedurally generated galaxy game

OK! Now anyone complaining about people complaining about ED and saying they should write their own game are quite welcome to fund me £200 million so I can make it.

They aren't complaining about the game. They're complaining about the Developers not creating a simple API for 3rd party support. EVE went all out with theirs and the community became the developers.

A lot of us feel like the "Devs" are ignoring the community with empty promises. And if the Horizons "expansion" shows anything, it's definitely empty inside that DLC.

Throwing a tantrum because a game company won't cater to your specific needs regarding third-party modding tools (when they have zero obligation to do so) isn't the right way to go about changing it. It's just an inconvenience to everyone.

You're more than welcome to go set up your own site and operate it in the way you see fit.

Without third party tools ED is even more a joke of a game that is currently.

I actually would like for this to be longer so ppl would realize this, while FD would farm salt from the community.
