Will PS4 get the Cobra Mk IV?

Personally, it's not a patch on the mk3 though. The slowness killed it for me.

It's got few uses beyond having good internals for its price point. But unless you're desperate to go mining early on and actually worry about profit, even though it'd be better to simply save a few more pennies for something more substantial if that's your game, it simply doesn't have a comfortable purpose.

No, people don't complain because they're missing out on a great asset. They're complaining because it's something they've been told they can't have.

So it's main purpose is to wind people up? I'm definitely going to buy it now! =]

I expect there will be a short pre-order window that will give you access to the Cobra IV, but honestly, it is a rubbish ship. I wouldn't bother.

Being that the Cobra Mk IV was a previous special release for backers I would have thought the answer would be no to a PS4 version. But since Frontier responded to this thread maybe there is a chance after all. Being a backer I have it. Personally I'm totally OK with releasing it on all ED platforms for everyone to enjoy. We're not talking about a mission completion unique and powerful ship like the Turner's Quest or the Thargoid Warship in Frontier: First Encounters.

Besides giving everyone access would eliminate present and future threads asking for the Cobra Mk IV. That's less work for the Forum Moderators! :)

ah never did get one of them ships, but still managed to get a fully combat ready imperial courier with the cool landing animation. although to be honest even though i tried once or twice never left occupied space just because after so far out you ran out of space stations

I'd like to think Frontier will throw us 'passionate' PS4 early adopters a bone, but I won't be too put out if they don't. Hell we've been beating the drum for them for quite some time now =]

What bothers more about this statement than the Mk.IV info is the issue of where these 'finer' details are on the PS4 release. This post was months ago yet we still know about as much as we did back then regarding PS4. Ok we've have the smallest crumbs since then but soooo many unanswered questions.

Wake up FDev.

I had gone back and looked at the very early posts in the PS4 forum (thus this find), and I have to say, the Frontier team seemed way more engaged and "happy" back in the earlier days. I'm hoping that the more recent silence is due to everyone on the team doubling down to get this release out the door. I know that when I'm extra busy, I tend to let "public relations" slide a bit. That's not a good thing, but sometimes it just happens.

The one thing I worry about is developer burnout. I've been in what some call "development hell", and it's not a fun place to be. That's why I try to be supportive of Fdev (minus the occasional joke at their expense). The humans behind the machinery can start to hate the very thing they originally had a passion for, especially if their target audience is blasting them with constant negativity. A little positive feedback can do wonders to the souls of the people working ungodly hours to meet deadlines and sometimes impossible expectations.

All that said, they do have at least one person on staff whose singular job is to communicate to us. Speak to us Ed! Show us that love you had for us in the beginning :)

Totally agree with you Old Duck. I'm absolutely sure that they're hard at work to get us the best experience possible.

It's just that when you tell people that you are going to communicate more about details, then well.. that's what people are going to expect. 5 months of complete silence doesn't really live up to the expectations that were raised...

But you're right... while I'm waiting (im)patiently on any news on ED for PS4. Let me say that I love the work FDev is doing, I love that the game is coming to PS4 in Q2, and I love to be able to dive into the big black myself very soon (whenever that may be).

i have to admit i do get frustrated when i see the likes of bungie already have a beta and confirmed september release for destiny 2, yet FD have so far remained in silent running mode even though we are getting closer to the end of the Q2 release window. i actually decided against pre ordering destiny 2 mainly because i got seriously burned out by the monotony of same 6 maps and 4 predictable enemies, but also the fact i love elite and everything to do with it.

lets just hope we get a big surprise soon, and we can hop back on the megaship hype and start our milky way adventure

This really worries me as well. If they have a 10 year plan, that's a really long time to keep your devs happy and engaged. Of course anyone who is unhappy can leave you can recruit new talent.

I've idly speculated whether after that 10 years they may open source the 'four'(?) BGS servers so that people could keep the game going. I don't think that would be realistic though.

It is like the Alien mystery all over again, one of those questions we just cannot fathom. When will we get some news? :)

I've watched recent live streams and you get this sense that some "puppet master" is responsible for this veil of secrecy. You'll get the developers and even Ed saying, "I'm not sure if we can talk about this," and "I might have said too much already!" It's like they are afraid of some boss-type just waiting to fire them if they accidentally slip and say too much. I think these guys on the stream would like to share more (that's just my informal read on body language), but their hands are tied.

So dear Mr. Puppet Master Steve Jobs wanna-be Overlord Boss in suit and tie, what do you think you are accomplishing by all this cloak and dagger? Maybe you should apply for a job at MI6 and let someone who understands marketing take over. [mad]

Unless your name is David Braben... [where is it]

I'm going to say it again, stock market rules.

When they want to tell the stock market they'll tell the world. Until then, Ed is rightly wary of what he can or can't say. The company is a PLC and that's the bottom line.

Chill people, enjoy the sunshine for a while or something, it's coming ;)

Honestly, I am not sure why people want that ship so bad! It is not as good as the original.

It is all about using it right, like with every ship in the game.
I love all these different ships with their diverse characters.

I can understand that people who love the game would like to have access to all human pilotable ships too.

Hogwash! <insert pig emoji> Otherwise Sony wouldn't have a "Coming Soon" page. Do you think Frontier is the only publicly-traded game company out there? Unless you brits are under some arcane trading laws, this answer makes zero cents. (I did that on purpose)

as a brit i can say i don't understand trade or stockmarkets. i just understand that there is this very substantial force field that prevents any and all news about ps4 release. and as for the puppet master its obviously emperor braben, palpatines geeky younger brother lol

Okay, so riddle me this. FDEV became a publicly-owned company in 2013. Two Thousand And Thirteen. My post further up this page expresses what feels like a recent change in openness and engagement by Frontier toward its community. So did the laws in the UK suddenly change (Brexit?), or might I be justified in being cynical of Mr. Cynical's currently unsubstantiated theory?

ps - I know I'm drifting off topic. Apologies. The tie-in is to the original post by Gary Richards promising "further announcements" about even small details like free ships.

Marketing people don't want others to get out in front of their information release.

Yes, I believe it's these folks who are pretty good at strategic marketing. I theorize they told FDev essentially, "Stay quiet, we're spooling up a monster VR marketing campaign, we've got this."

I would bet my least-expensive pair of pants that we'll see something like this in the weeks to come for ED. I've see a lot of Farpoint commercials this week around prime time, and it launches next Tuesday. I think it's fair to at least suggest we'll see more PSVR stuff as we encroach on E3.
