"The Aquarian Job" goes badly wrong - How I lost a ship mid-race but am still in the running

Coming to pay you a visit today. Look out for my ship :)

Make sure to give him pre-warning in game (you may need to wing up anyway in order to be able to locate and instance with him). There's an issue in ED where having multiple commanders in the same instance appears to increase the amount of SRV damage taken from terrain impacts. You don't want to drop into his instance, accidentally double his damage taken and have him blow up from an impact that he would otherwise have survived!

Ah, I see. As I'm not able to send a message to him in game at the moment (transmissions not accepted for some reason), I'll withdraw and let him safely get home.

Maybe I missed it, but how will he get into the station to buy a new ship?
he knows what hes doing :D

This is in fact the case. I had a friend test this out: he took a sidewinder, landed outside a base, shot their sidewinder to death with their SRV, then drove to the base and docked. He got a rebuy screen and a new ship for the base he docked at (which he hadn't previously visited).

I did, in fact, do my homework before deciding to do set out. :) My original video hides the fact that between "crap, ship blew up" and "challenge accepted" I took some time to make sure the rebuy bit would work.

365 km to go.

The last stretch has had some really brutal canyon sections that slowed me down quite a bit and gave me more close calls than the rest of the run combined.

Looking forward to ending this. :)

Further to Bomba's response (and since I found a lot of people on facebook didn't know this) ... you can drive to a planetary base in your SRV, request "docking" permission (I know - the wording is a bit odd) and then drive to the nearest garage. When you get into the garage you can then board your ship (which is magically awaiting you in the hangar above ... hand wavium). I quite often (especially for those big circular planetary bases where you have to drive in through a tunnel) land my ship outside of the base and drive the last few km in the SRV because I like arriving in this way - its feels more exciting somehow.

You can literally see the suffering between these five words. Is it just me, or is your smiley sweating? [big grin]

I wouldn't say suffering... it's like being on a long road trip. Even if it's enjoyable, by the end you're ready for it to be over.

Sweating smiley is accurate.

I'm going to try to end this now.

Livestreaming (hopefully) the last stretch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lbrbfySFl8

I will be keeping a close eye on things and at the first sign of ganker trouble will kill the stream and hide. :) Hoping this is enough of an off-hour that nobody is around though.

Is it worth it to have multiple people in SC around the planet (to avoid SRV instance bug) as lookouts ?

They should keep dropping out/low waking till they're in an instance by themselves to increase the odds that any interlopers are seen to give you some advance warning.

He's no longer in the SRV!

I'll let Sushi tell you whether he's dead or in a ship tho! ;)

Edit: Doh! Andovar's given the game away. :p

I didn't keep track of in-game time but I think my original estimate of ~12 hours was fairly accurate. Give or take an hour.

EDIT: Whoops, original calculation dropped a PM. Added 12 hours to total time elapsed. :)
