THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Haven't been on in a while. Looking at the last 50+ pages of the forum here, I presume the mystery is now done and was a huge disappointment as predicted? Shame. Still, I'm interested to know what (if any) real "clues" were actually in-game at launch. Has Drew Wagar confirmed anything? Or is it still all just disingenuous retconning?

I'm a newcomer to the game and am interesting I the Formidine Rift Mystery. I don't know where to start really, there's been so much in three years and the official posts are so long and contain so many asides and tangents they are hard to follow for someone new. I've read a lot, and think I have a beginners knowledge of the mystery. I was thinking of starting my search in Prism, where it all seems to have started. I've noticed something about prism, which I'm sure is not new to anyone but myself. Obviously the names of the planets are important and they seem to paint a picture of Salomé's life. Prism, of course, refracts light into ROYGBIV, it takes a whole and breaks it down into its individual parts. We have Diamond, I assume representative of white light, Sapphire for Blue, Ruby for Red, and the planets for the remaining colors (not including their moons). Is this a hint for how to order the events or where things may be missing? Also, am I correct in assuming that the 'old woman' Salome had contact with isn't an old woman at all, but the man who rescued her much like Apollo came in the guise of an old woman in one of the myths hinted at in the names of the planets? The names also seem to indicate that Salome knew her death was a forgone conclusion and sent through the message with couriers ahead of her and intentionally made a target of herself.

I'm sorry to report that you've missed the bus. The rift clues followed Salome's story and led to a series of bases created by the superpowers (bolt-holes in case of alien invasion), and a derelict mega ship deep in the Rift. Salome met her death revealing the secret which turned out to be:

Aliens are coming, the superpowers know about them and are planning on running away.

Everyone is now sat around twiddling their thumbs waiting for the next development. The old woman was most likely Rebecca from Drew's Oolite saga. (well worth a read)

If you are indeed interestd in the Prism system, you might want to read Drew Wagar's Reclamation, if you haven't already. Also, try narrowing it down a bit through use of the search function with keywords like Formidine rift, Salomé, Raxxla and other spoilery stuff like Dynasty or Exodus. You'll get the picture

Oh okay, I didn't know it had been solved. With the old woman's talk of seeing Thargoids amassing beyond the Rift and the presence of something even worse beyond the Rift where 'the stars thin out and you can see the whole Galaxy' and that you would have to plot a course to it I was hoping it would be an unmapped bubble where these things exist that were in instances that were locked until you followed the correct path. Appears perhaps I was letting my mind run away with me lol. Well, an impending alien invasion sure as hell explains the empires desire to expand into Colonia, that's where I'm headed at the moment actually. If there are any new developments I may take the Sidewinder Express home. If aliens invade i don't think I want to watch the action from afar :p

You haven't really missed the bus, just the first part of the journey really.

We still have a lot of head-scratching going on over what certain things mean, where things are, what to do and who's running the superpowers behind the scenes and what to do about that. Essentially, the Rift mystery is slowly merging with the ongoing alien activities discussed in the Canonn thread.
